It is found that, in certain temperature ranges (200e700 C for Ho sample and 200e800 C for the others), Ho 2 Mo 3 O 12 , Tm 2 W 3 O 12 and Tm 2 Mo 3 O 12 all adopt orthorhombic structure and show negative thermal expansion whereas Ho 2 W 3 O 12 adopts monoclinic structure and shows positive thermal expansion.
