Criminal behavior has been explained in the literature by rational or normative arguments. We propose a game theory framework of criminal behavior integrating both concepts. Specifically the modeling includes three factors, namely the gain from criminality, the adherence to a legal norm and social pressure from criminal peers. We show that criminality cannot be lower with increasing gain from criminality, lower adherence to the legal norm or higher social pressure from criminal peers. Finally, we observe by agent-based simulations that small local interaction structures lead to spatial segregation in criminality in the case where a polymorphic equilibrium is expected.

The journal "Computational and Mathematical Organization Theory" provides an international forum for interdisciplinary research that integrates computation, organization, and society. The aim is to leverage insights from social networks, artificial intelligence, complexity, machine learning, sociology, business, political science, economics, and action research. Papers published in this journal will contribute to the development of new theories that explain and predict the behavior of complex adaptive systems, as well as new computational models and techniques that are accountable to society, business, policy, and law. The journal welcomes various types of foundational research. We strongly encourage submissions that demonstrate, validate, or apply models and computational techniques, particularly new algorithms, dynamic metrics of networks and complex systems, and comparative studies of computational models. Additionally, the editors support applied research that addresses practical organizational or policy issues that can be solved using computational tools.
