Learn more.Copy URL Abstract ABSTRACT– A self-assessment scale has been developed and found to be a reliable instrument for detecting states of depression and anxiety in the setting of an hospital medical outpatient clinic. The anxiety and depressive subscales are also valid measures of severity of the emotional disorder. It is suggested that the introduction of the scales into general hospital practice would facilitate the large task of detection and management of emotional disorder in patients under investigation and treatment in medical and surgical departments. Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica is an international forum dedicated to disseminating information that advances the science and practice of psychiatry. We particularly focus on facilitating communication between clinical psychiatrists and psychiatric researchers regarding frontline research. Traditionally, Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica has primarily concentrated on clinical psychiatry; however, translational psychiatry is becoming an increasingly important topic for our readers. Therefore, the journal welcomes submissions of manuscripts based on clinical and translational research (e.g., preclinical and epidemiological studies). When preparing manuscripts based on translational research for submission to Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, authors should emphasize the clinical significance of the research questions and findings. Manuscripts based solely on preclinical research (e.g., animal models) are generally not considered for publication in the journal.
