Abstract This paper argues for a pastoral counseling ministry based on a two-fold view of reality. The philosophical foundations of our present one-fold view of reality (Locke and Kant) are bracketed and questioned. This bracketing leads to a revaluation of imagination as imaginal, its images being subtle or corporeal, or the spiritual world as having its own corporeality through the imaginal. Pastoral counseling is presented as working with imagery, as an extension of the Christus Victor doctrine of atonement, and as part of the church's task of disclosing God's wise acts to the spiritual world; the imaginal inferiority of this visible one.
