Trends in Microbiology is a multidisciplinary forum that discusses various aspects of microbiology, ranging from cell biology and immunology to genetics and evolution, covering virology, bacteriology, protozoology, and mycology. Microbiology is one of the fastest-growing disciplines today, and the life sciences have also benefited from recent technological advancements. The relative ease and speed of complete sequencing of small genomes have had a significant impact across all fields of prokaryotes, from pathogens to extremophiles, and are driving new developments in areas such as drug, vaccine, and industrial enzyme research. Recent international developments have also rekindled interest in microbiology. The journal features a vibrant mix of reviews, communications, and commentaries. Most articles are commissioned and undergo peer review, providing an authoritative foundation for teaching and understanding developments in the field.
