A summary of the galactic cosmic radiation discoveries made as a result of International Geophysical Year investigations is presented as well as results of recent measurements in the Van Allen radiation zones and results of a detailed analysis of several major solar cosmic-ray events. The galactic cosmic rays and Van Allen belts appear to offer no real obstacle to space travel for limited time durations. Solar flares present the least predictable hazard.
