AI & SOCIETY: KNOWLEDGE, CULTURE AND COMMUNICATION is an international journal that publishes scholarly articles, position papers, debates, brief communications, and reviews of books and other publications. Established in 1987, the journal focuses on social issues, particularly the design, use, management, and policy of information, communication, and new media technologies, with an emphasis on cultural, social, cognitive, economic, ethical, and philosophical impacts. The journal has a broad social scope and a strong interdisciplinary character, welcoming contributions from researchers and practitioners across fields such as information technology, humanities, social sciences, arts, and sciences. It explores wider social and cultural impacts, including governance, security, sustainability, identity, inclusion, work-life balance, corporate and community welfare, and human well-being. The journal encourages co-authored articles from different disciplines and aims to enhance understanding of the potential transformative impacts and critical consequences of ubiquitous technologies on society. Technological innovations, including biotechnology, nanotechnology, and neuroscience, offer great potential for society but also pose existential risks. Rooted in a human-centered tradition of science and technology, the journal acts as a catalyst, promoter, and facilitator, engaging with diverse voices and transdisciplinary issues in art, science, technology, and society. In line with the journal's spirit, submitted papers should provide substantial and clear arguments regarding the social dimensions of the research, particularly concerning the benefits, impacts, and implications for society, including factors such as trust, bias, privacy, reliability, accountability, and capability of AI systems. These arguments should be validated through critical reviews of current research in the field. The journal is divided into three sections: A) Full academic articles; B) Strategic ideas, critical reviews, and reflections; C) Student forum aimed at emerging researchers and new voices, conveying their ongoing research to the broader academic community under the guidance of the journal's advisory board; along with book reviews, news, and the opinionated CURMUDGEON CORNER. Papers in the original section may include original research based on theoretical, methodological, conceptual, or philosophical foundations. The open forum section may include strategic thoughts, critical reviews, and potential impacts on current research society. Papers in the network research section make significant contributions to the theoretical and methodological foundations of the social field, typically involving multiple authors and summarizing each author's contributions to the paper. Original, open forum, and network papers undergo peer review. The student forum section may include theoretical, methodological, and applied directions of ongoing research, including case studies and background action research experiences, typically authored by a single author and also undergoes formal review. CURMUDGEON CORNER is a brief column on trends in technology, art, science, and society, focusing on issues of concern to the research community and the broader society.
