The American Journal of Ophthalmology is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that invites submissions of original manuscripts that have not been published elsewhere, focusing on clinical studies, clinical observations, and clinically relevant laboratory investigations. Since its inception in 1884, the journal has been published monthly, with full texts and supplementary materials available online at WWW.AJO.COM and SCIENCEDIRECT. The American Journal of Ophthalmology publishes full-length articles, opinions, editorials, communications, book reviews, and announcements. Brief reports and case reports are no longer accepted; we recommend submitting these to our sister publication, the American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports. Manuscripts are accepted on the condition that they have not been and will not be extensively published elsewhere in any form, and that there are no ethical issues related to the content or data collection. Authors may be required to provide the data underlying the manuscript and to respond promptly to any inquiries regarding the manuscript or its authors.

Journal Citation Format

Those examples are references to articles in scholarly journals and how they are supposed to appear in your bibliography.

Not all journals organize their published articles in volumes and issues, so these fields are optional. Some electronic journals do not provide a page range, but instead list an article identifier. In a case like this it's safe to use the article identifier instead of the page range.

A journal article with 1 author

A journal article with 2 authors

A journal article with 3 authors

A journal article with 5 or more authors
