ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Two new electrochemiluminescence (ECL) reactions in aqueous solution involving cadmium(II) ions are reported. The ECL reaction occurs in the presence of a common co-reactant, tripropylamine (TPA), and either of two organic ligands, 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine or 2,2′-bipyridine. The reaction is presumed to arise from the metal-ligand complex and the co-reactant. Conditions for ECL emission were optimised and a calibration graph constructed. Emission was linear over the range 10-1 000 ppb. The calculated limits of detection (LOD) were 8 and 50 ppb using terpyridine and bipyridine, respectively. Comparison with a previously reported reaction involving cadmium(II) ions and 1, 10-phenathroline is made. Further Determination of Cadmium Ions in Water by an Electrochemiluminescence Method

Gas chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry was applied to study the mass spectral fragmentation of phthalate esters. The base peaks of phthalate esters with alkyl side chains (except dimethyl phthalate) were m/z 149, indicating that their fragmentation pathways were similar. The base peaks of benzyl butyl phthalate and dibutoxyethyl phthalate were also at m/z 149. Because of the presence of benzyl groups and butoxy groups in the side chains, their mass spectral fragmentation pathways were different from those of phthalate esters with alkyl side chains. The base peaks of dimethyl phthalate and diphenyl phthalate were m/z 163 and m/z 225, respectively, which corresponded to the fragments produced by α-cleavage of their molecular ion peaks. The base peaks of dimethoxyethyl phthalate and diethoxyethyl phthalate were m/z 59 and m/z 72, respectively, which corresponded to fragments produced by McLafferty rearrangement of their molecular ions. The fragmentation pathways provide fundamental information for the determination of phthalate esters and their metabolites.

Structural Characterization of DNA from Allium Leaves and E. coli by Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS)

A dual-label time-resolved fluorescence immunoassay (TRFIA) for the simultaneous determination of β human chorionic gonadotropin and progesterone was developed for the early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy. The performance of this assay was evaluated using clinical serum and then compared with standard procedures. The sensitivity for β human chorionic gonadotropin detection was 1 U/L (linear dynamic range, 0–8000 U/L), and the sensitivity for progesterone detection was 0.05 ng/mL (linear dynamic range, 0–50 ng/mL). High correlation coefficients (R2) were obtained between the reported immunoassay and standard methods (R2 = 0.99 for β human chorionic gonadotropin, R2 = 0.97 for progesterone). The present dual-label TRFIA has high sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy in clinical analyses and is a suitable alternative to the single-labeled diagnostic methods.

A Dual-Label Time-Resolved Fluorescence Immunoassay for the Simultaneous Determination of β-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin and Progesterone

A highly sensitive magnetic nanoparticle enzyme immunoassay of progesterone was established using horseradish peroxidase as a label. The “enzyme label” was prepared by coupling of progesterone-3-(O-carboxymethyl)oxime to horseradish peroxidase. The antiprogesterone antibody was immobilized on the aminomodified magnetic nanoparticles by glutaraldehydе. The typical standard curve for progesterone in buffer by the magnetic nanoparticles enzyme immunoassay was obtained with a detection limit of 0.04 ng mL−1. These results were compared to the data obtained for progesterone in milk. It has been shown that the progesterone magnetic particle-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in milk had a minor depression in sensitivity (detection limit of 0.09 ng mL−1). The progesterone calibration curves obtained by the random antibody immobilization were compared with results by protein A oriented immobilization of the antibodies. The sensitivity of progesterone magnetic particle-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in milk using random antibody immobilization method was lower than sensitivity of the progesterone magnetic particle-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay using protein A oriented immobilization method (detection limit of 0.08 ng mL−1). The influences of milk type and the fat content in milk on the immunoassay were investigated. With an improved sensitivity and simple operation, the magnetic particle-linked antibody for immunoassay of progesterone has great potential to supersede the traditional enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for progesterone determination.

Detection of ethanolamines (ETAs) is of great importance due to their harmful effects on human health and the environment. Herein, a simple turn-on aptasensor is designed for the sensitive and selective determination of ETA based on an aptamer-functionalized MIL-100 (Fe) (Apt-MIL-100) metal-organic framework (MOF) and Rhodamine B (RhB) as a fluorescence probe. It was found that the ETA molecule causes the release of RhB from Apt-MIL-100 (Fe) through selective binding with its aptamer. The fluorescence signal showed a linear relationship with ETA concentration in the range of 10-500 pM. This aptasensor showed successful application for ETA determination in wastewaters.

Activated graphite@NiO nanoflowers was synthetized and characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR). It was used as adsorbent for dispersive solid-phase microextraction of Cu(II). The quantitative recovery values were found as pH 8.0, eluent 2.0 M HNO3, vortex time 30 s, adsorbent mass 20 mg, and preconcentration factor 80. The limits of detection and quantification were calculated as 4.23 µg L−1 and 14.1 µg L−1, respectively. The presented method was validated by the analyzing certified reference materials. It was sapplied to determination of copper contents of food and water samples.

The utilization of celery seeds as seasonings and in herbal teas is widespread due to their significant nutritional and medicinal value. The determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is a valuable tool for species identification and classification. Currently, there is an absence of information investigating the volatile constituents present in the cultivars of celery seeds. To analyze the varietal differences of celery seeds, VOCs were isolated using headspace solid-phase microextraction with by determination by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The samples underwent further comparison using multivariate statistical analysis to determine the changes in VOCs. Cluster analysis and principal component analysis were used to conduct correlation measurements on the samples. An orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) model was developed to discriminate between samples and identify differential compounds. The distribution of these key compounds in these seeds was analyzed using a Sankey diagram. The samples contained 30 volatile components, mainly terpenes and esters. Correlation analysis revealed distinct variations in the VOCs. Furthermore, the utilization of the OPLS-DA model facilitated the identification of 11 differential compounds. The Sankey diagram illustrated significant disparities in the distribution patterns of these key compounds in the celery seeds.
