Az ALCAPA főegység dunántúli részén, a Periadriai–Balaton-vonaltól északra elhelyezkedő Velencei-hegység fő tömegét a perm időszaki, S–A típusú Velencei Gránit alkotja. A gránitban ÉK–DNY, illetve É–D csapásirányú hidro­termás telérek és agyagásványos átalakulási zónák is ismertek, melyek eredete sokáig kérdéses volt, de az újabb kuta­tá­sok segítettek sok előfordulás földtani folyamathoz kötésében; nemcsak a gránit magmatizmushoz kapcsolódó, hanem egy triász időszaki, regionális fluidáramlási rendszer létrejöttéhez kötődő és a térséget érintő paleogén magmatizmushoz kapcsolódó hidrotermás eseményt is dokumentáltak. A pákozdi Ősi-hegyen egy 0,5–0,8 m széles, ~100 m hosszan követ­hető kvarctelér ismert, melynek komplex ásványtani, kőzettani, teleptani és talajtani vizsgálatának eredményeit mutatjuk be. A telér kétféle kifejlődését azonosítottuk (sejtes és tömör, mikrobreccsásodott gránitot tartalmazó), és meghatároztuk az összetételét (domináns kvarc, erősen átalakult gránitklasztok, monacit, keralit, alárendelt Ti-oxidok, hintett pirit és kalkopirit, illetve ezek átalakulási termékeként goethit). Az átalakult gránitban és a telérkvarcban megjelenő monacithoz szorosan kötődő, sajátalakú keralit és goyazit is megfigyelhető, ami alapján a foszfor és a nagy térerejű elemek hidro­ter­más remobilizációjára következtethetünk. A telér átalakulási udvarában a földpátok illitesedése, szericitesedése figyel­he­tő meg, ami az eredetileg feltehetően gyengén savas, oldott anyagokban gazdag hidrotermás fluidum kőzettel való köl­csönhatása révén bekövetkező pufferolódásának lehet eredménye. A rekonstruált paraméterek ideálisak lehettek a színes­fémek oldatban való szállításához. A telér fölött kifejlődött kőzethatású talaj is tükrözi a kőzetátalakulást, míg a távolabb megjelenő, fiatal homok kőzetalkotói is utalnak a hidrotermás eseményre. A telér hidrotermás ásványainak anyaoldat-jellemzői a környező kvarc ± fluorit, szulfid tartalmú telérekével mutat jelentős hasonlóságot, és a megjelenő pirit­ nyom­elem összetétele (Cu-, Pb-, As-tartalma és a mérhető Au hiánya) is hasonló a pátkai kvarc-fluorittelér piritjének össze­té­teléhez. A telér elhelyezkedése, valamint ásványtani jellemzői miatt feltételezzük, hogy képződése a triász időszaki re­gio­nális fluidáramlási eseményhez köthető.

A pákozdi Ősi-hegy kvarctelérének komplex geológiai vizsgálata

Geologic reservoirs, including sandstones, can serve as sites for underground hydrogen storage (UHS). However, for a successful commercial application, a more detailed knowledge of the rock–pore-water–hydrogen gas (H2) systems is necessary. In this combined experimental-modeling study, the geochemical impact of H2 on K-feldspar was investigated. Static batch reactor experiments were conducted under pressure and temperature conditions of potential UHS to track the effect of H2 on K-feldspar. The experimental data show a negligible reactivity of K-feldspar. The kinetic PHREEQC model predicts the dissolution of K-feldspar to a similar extent as suggested by the experimental observations. Findings of this study show that the K-feldspar–H2 interaction is marginal. The results mark clear progress in understanding the chemical changes in polymineralic reservoir rock matrix during hydrogen injection processes.

K-feldspar – H2 interaction in the context ofunderground hydrogen storage

The occurrences of numerous sills penetrated in two exploration wells drilled in the Molasse Basin in NE Austria were known since the early 1960s. Although the initial analysis of these strongly altered metadolerite units intercepted in an apparently Dogger (Porrau-2) and Upper Paleozoic (Roggendorf-1) clastic sequence correctly concluded about their intrusive character, the age relationships and the broader stratigraphic and tectonic implications remained poorly constrained. After about 60 years, using various modern analytical methods, a new understanding of these intrusives is outlined in this contribution. Originally, the age of the metadolerites was considered as Jurassic. However, our new, preliminary results provided an Early Cretaceous age (136–141 Ma) for the intrusive volcanism not only indicated by K-Ar age determination but also by regional analogues for the sills. A single dacite sill from the lower, supposedly Dogger se­quence of the Porrau-2 well is interpreted as an older intrusive unit and its K-Ar date (283–284 Ma) suggests an Early Permian age. Hence the sequence drilled in the deeper part of this well cannot be Dogger in age but instead it is Upper Paleozoic (Permian). Therefore, some of the alluvial-fluvial clastics in the Porrau-2 and Roggendorf-1 wells represent the subsurface southwestern continuation of the Carboniferous–Permian Boskovice Trough from Moravia into Lower Austria. On a regional scale, the petrography of the studied sills appears to be similar to the well-studied Lower Cretaceous alkaline igneous rocks (lamprophyres, basanites, phonolites) occurring in the Moravian-Silesian Beskidy area in north­east Czech Republic and southern Poland and in the Mecsek Zone of southern Hungary. Although all these volcanic units are presently located in Alpine thrust-fold belts displaced from their original paleogeographic position, the sills in our study are anchored within the autochthonous European plate. Therefore, they provide an important new constraint for the palinspastic reconstruction of the regional-scale Early Cretaceous rift zone along the southern margin of the Mesozoic European plate.

Preliminary analysis of Lower Cretaceous metadolerites drilled in Lower Austria – a tribute to Prof. Csaba Szabó

The origin of peralkaline rhyolites in rift settings is usually explained by prolonged crystal fractionation of basalts. However, the temporal and spatial association of peralkaline rhyolites to alkaline silica-undersaturated rocks has not been sufficiently explored. Here, we present peralkaline rhyolite glass compositions formed at a currently active carbonatite volcano (Oldoinyo Lengai), East African Rift System. The studied samples preserve mineral assemblage incompatible with Oldoinyo Lengai magmatism (presence of metamorphic quartz and oligoclase as relict crystals), while an igneous groundmass (peralkaline rhyolite glass, alkali-rich clinopyroxene and anorthoclase) presents evidence for the assimila­tion of a silica-rich rock by an alkali-rich silica-undersaturated melt. Trace element data reject the possibility that per­alkaline rhyolites were formed by fractional crystallization of basalts, as the expected negative Eu anomaly from plagio­clase fractionation is absent. The initial melt composition could be estimated as phonolitic (58 wt% SiO2, 2.6 peralka­linity index). We argue that the formation of peralkaline rhyolites at Oldoinyo Lengai occurred through assimilation of silica-rich crustal rocks by a silica-undersaturated magma. In addition, we compare peralkaline rhyolites from Oldoinyo Lengai to other peralkaline rocks from the East African Rift System. We propose that the above assimilation model may form in any continental rift where a silica-undersaturated alkaline magmatism interacts with silica-rich country rocks.

Formation of peralkaline rhyolite in the East African Rift System: the role of assimilation – a tribute to the career of Csaba Szabó

The fully cored, 2150-m-deep Szombathely-II (abbreviated as Szh-II) well was drilled at the western margin of the Hungarian Danube Basin. Beneath a circa 2-km-thick Neogene post-to syn-rift basin fill, the well not only reached the pre-rift Upper Austroalpine (UAA) basement with its slightly metamorphosed Paleozoic units but also the underlying greenschists of the Lower Cretaceous Penninic unit. The Alpine basement units are separated by a large low-angle normal fault, which is the regional-scale Rechnitz (Rohonc) detachment fault. This fault was responsible for the formation of the Rechnitz–Eisenberg metamorphic core complex (MCC) straddling the Austrian–Hungarian border. Since the large-strain extensional Rechnitz detachment fault has no outcrops in the entire region, the core material was studied to charac­ter­ize the fault penetrated in the borehole from a microtectonic, diagenetic, fluid migration and fractured reservoir point of view. This study presents the preliminary results on core samples with various lithology from the Szh-II well to better understand the Rechnitz detachment system and the corresponding fluid migration pathways. The Penninic greenschist below the main brittle deformation zone exhibits a well-developed foliation defined mainly by the oriented growth of actinolite and chlorite; however, the lack of a high-strain mylonitic foliation suggests that duc­tile shearing was not fully localized beneath the brittle detachment fault at the well location. The subsequent dominantly brittle deformation affected both the Penninic greenschists and the overlying UAA units. The Devonian carbonates and schists may represent a thin (only 20-m-thick) extensional allochthon on the top of the Rechnitz detachment fault, but beneath the basal conglomerates of the Neogene basin fill. Fluid inclusion studies targeted the Penninic greenschists in three samples beneath the detachment fault. Four types of fluid inclusions with variable chemistry and origin were distinguished in several host minerals. Apatite hosts primary CO2±CH4+H2O fluid inclusions (Type IIa, b, c) indicating significant partial fluid loss. Secondary fluid inclusions along healed fractures were entrapped in apatite (Type IId) and clinozoisite (Type I) with a chemistry of CO2+H2O and CH4+H2O fluid, respectively. Vein-filling calcite, crosscutting the foliation of the rock, contains primary aqueous fluid inclusions (Type III) also containing CO2 and indication of saturated hydrocarbons in the vapor phase, which were trapped along growth zones of the host mineral. Aqueous CO2-CH4-N2-bearing two-phase fluid inclusions, referred to as Type IV inclusions, were found along subgrain boundaries of quartz veins. Textural analyses showing significantly dif­ferent phase ratios within the same cluster of Type IId and Type III inclusions indicate that aqueous fluids were in or near to conditions of boiling during entrapment. Microstructural observations also indicate that carbonic fluid inclusions along grain-subgrain boundaries of quartz (Type IV inclusions) likely formed during ductile deformation and quartz re­crystal­lization. Improved understanding of the architecture of this fault zone may provide insights into the energetics of subsurface migration of geo-fluids (water and light oil) and various natural gases (CO2, CH4, N2 and H2) at circa 2 km depth.

A preliminary study on fluid migration pathways along the Rechnitz detachment fault – a tribute to Prof. Csaba Szabó

Upper Jurassic bivalves yielded by the Transdanubian Range until the early 2010s were documented in two papers published in the last decade. Following the publication of them, two specimens representing species previously unknown from the area have been found. The Kimmeridgian limestone of Kálvária Hill, located in the town of Tata has yielded the lophate oyster Actinostreon aff. gregareum (J. SOWERBY, 1815), while a specimen of the pholadomyoidean Procardia aff. acuminata (HARTMANN, 1830) was collected from the Tithonian limestone exposed in the Közöskút Ravine, located near the village of Hárskút (Bakony Mts). The new finds represent the first known occurrence of the genera Actinostreon and Procardia in the Jurassic of the Transdanubian Range. Both genera are particularly uncommon in the deeper water pelag -ic Upper Jurassic of the peri-Mediterranean region.

Three Middle Anisian carbonate platforms (Barnag, Tagyon and Kádárta Platforms) surrounded by the hemipelagic Felsőörs Basin have been reconstructed in the Balaton Highland. The truncated surface of all platforms is covered by basinal carbonates and volcanic rocks of the Vászoly Formation. Based on conodont investigations these platforms were subject to drowning at different times. The earliest drowning was recognized in the late Pelsonian on the southern edge of the Barnag Platform (Paragondolella bulgarica Zone). This date correlates well with the opening of a neptunian dyke encountered near the southwestern margin of the Kádárta Platform and also with the age of the dykes cutting through Pelsonian platforms in the Northern Calcareous Alps, Aggtelek Hills, Dinarides and Dolomites. Drowning of the Tagyon Platform and the marginal area of the Kádárta Platform occurred in the early Illyrian (Paragondolella bifurcata and Neogondolella constricta Zones). However, the Kádárta Platform shows a trend of decreasing age for the timing of the drowning from the edge towards the inner parts of the platform during the late Illyrian. This can be explained by tectonically forced backstepping of the downfaulted marginal blocks and/or by eustatic sea-level rise accompanied by increasing volcanic activity that may have caused the decrease of transparency of the sea-water. Later on, as a result of intensifying sea level rise bathyal environment formed during the Ladinian that can be confirmed by the appearance and increasing dominance of deep-water ‘psychrosphaeric’ forms in the ostracod assemblage.

Reconstruction of Middle Triassic platform drowning and basin evolution of the Balaton Highland: new micropaleontological constraints

重建巴拉顿高地中三叠世台地沉降与盆地演化：新的微体古生物学约束

The aim of this paper is to point out the first reporting of Moorellina parca (Rau), Davidsonella sinuata (Deslongchamps) and Suessia liasiana (Deslongchamps) in the Apenninic Lower Toarcian beds. The sampling of 460 specimens of ammonites (mainly fragmentary specimens) allowed us to correlate the fossiliferous level known in the literature for the rich associations with brachiopods and crinoids in the basal Toarcian, Polimorphum Zone. Due to its uniqueness and paleontological value, we propose the Toarcian fossil deposit of Colle Vecchio to be included in the regional list of Geosites for the conservation of the geological heritage.

Early Jurassic Thecideids (Thecideidae, Brachiopoda) and associated fossils from Tivoli near Rome, Italy

Munkánkban a triász medence-geometria kréta gyűrődésre gyakorolt hatását vizsgáltuk a Balaton-felvidék és a Veszprémi-fennsík területén. A terület paleozoos és triász formációit reológiai alapon csoportokba rendeztük, és ezeket a terület földtani térképén ábrázoltuk. A dolgozatban röviden jellemeztük a Balaton-felvidék és a Veszprémi-fennsík legfontosabb kréta kompressziós szerkezeteit (pl. Litéri-rátolódás) az általunk szerkesztett földtani térkép elemzése, valamint a korábbi szerzők munkái alapján. A földtani térkép alapján vázlatosan körvonalaztuk a triász medence geometriáját, melyben a legjelentősebb laterális fáciesváltások a középső anisusi és a karni képződmények esetében jelentkeznek. Kimutattuk, hogy a Litéri-rátolódás délnyugati szegmensét a karni platform–medence átmenete lokalizálta. Értelmezésünk szerint a Litéri-rátolódás két szegmensét összekötő laterális rámpa (harántszerkezet) a középső triász Felsőörsi-medence területén jött létre, a medencét délnyugatról határoló platformperemmel párhuzamosan. Ezzel szemben a Litéri-rátolódás északkeleti szegmense csapásváltás nélkül metszi a Felsőörsi-medence északkeleti peremét. A vizsgálati területre kidolgozott modellünk jól összeegyeztethető a téma nemzetközi irodalmával, mely alapján elmondható, hogy a gyűrődést megelőzően kialakult medence-geometria alapjaiban határozza meg a gyűrt–pikkelyes övek felépítését.

Triász medence-geometria és fáciesváltozások hatása a Balaton-felvidék és a Veszprémi-fennsík eoalpi szerkezetalakulására

The Inferior Oolite Formation of Dorset includes Lower Bajocian strata often rich in stephanoceratid ammonites comparable with assemblages from the rocks of the Transdanubian Central Range (W Hungary) that are the subject of research by András Galácz, specifically Lokuticeras. In Dorset the stratigraphical occurrence of the ‘Lokuticeras morphology’ can be traced over a range of strata from the Sauzei and Humphriesianum zones and the assemblage composition of the biohorizons in which they occur identified. Lokuticeras is most abundant in Dorset in the uppermost Humphriesianum and Blagdeni subzones of the Humphriesianum Zone. Specimens from three Dorset locations are figured facilitating comparison with the Hungarian specimens. Type species Lokuticeras rossbrunnense is common at the Humphriesianum–Blagdeni subzonal transition. A new biohorizon is erected Lokuticeras rossbrunnense nov. as the lowest biohorizon of the Blagdeni Subzone facilitating correlating some areas of Europe. A critical review is made of previously published specimens and their affinities
