This paper investigates the ways to detect defects in photovoltaic (PV) cells and panels. Here, two different methods have been used. First, the output behavior was characterized by measuring the amount of current at different voltage levels to obtain the current-voltage and power-voltage curves. Second, infrared emissions of forward-biased nonilluminated PV cells and panels were measured by the use of synchronized thermography. From these measurements, temperature maps can be derived, which indicate that the temperature within a given PV cell unevenly rises due to the defects in the cell. Uneven temperature distribution indicates defects and reduced output power.

Detecting Defects in Photovoltaic Cells and Panels and Evaluating the Impact on Output Performances

By exploiting the spatial diversity of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based passive multistatic radar, this article proposes a novel joint detection and localization method for maritime moving ships. First, for each bistatic baseline, the weak target energy is concentrated in the range-Doppler (RD) map over the long integration time with a motion compensation technique that needs to search the unknown Doppler frequency rate value. Then, the RD maps pertaining to all bistatic baselines are projected into the Cartesian planes that represent the surveyed area. The projection processing needs to search the unknown X-axis and Y-axis components of the target velocity vector. A quadratic equation is derived to describe the relationship between the Doppler frequency rate and the target velocity vector. Therefore, one of the velocity vector components does not require to be searched, leading to improved computational efficiency. Finally, multistatic integration is performed to combine all Cartesian planes via an objective function, which cannot only focus the target energy for joint detection and localization but also exclude the invalid solution induced by the quadratic equation. Numerical results against the simulations and real experiments demonstrate that the proposed method has close detection, positioning, and velocity estimation capabilities to the existing method but with a much higher computational efficiency.

Maritime Ship Joint Detection and Localization Using GNSS-Based Passive Multistatic Radar

A method for the compensation of crosstalk in three-axial induction magnetometers is developed theoretically and verified experimentally. The compensation is based on deriving crosstalk-free magnetometer outputs from a system of equations describing the magnetometer total outputs as a function of the applied field, the parameters of the magnetometer coils, and the crosstalk factors for the applied and secondary magnetic fluxes. Processing the total outputs of an experimental magnetometer has demonstrated an effective reduction of the crosstalk: it has been reduced below 0.5% in the whole magnetometer bandwidth, including the frequencies near resonance, where the crosstalk is especially strong (20%). In comparison, the reduction of the crosstalk by applying magnetic feedback is much less effective: the crosstalk has been reduced down to 6% at resonance, remained unchanged at low and high frequencies, and even increased just below resonance. Moreover, magnetic feedback flattens the frequency response and significantly reduces the magnetometer selectivity, which can be advantageous in many applications. Employing magnetic feedback also increases the magnetometer complexity and its power consumption.

Compensation of Crosstalk in Three-Axial Induction Magnetometers

Contact method is an important method to measure the complex permittivity of polymer films. There are some possible factors affecting its accurate measurement for thin films by direct contact method. To solve the problem, this paper analyzes the reasons of errors induced by flatness tolerance and edge effect from the view of three-electrode structure, and that induced by the state of film surface as well. An equivalent electric circuit model is proposed based on direct contact method and the state of film surfaces. The correction formulas used to measure complex permittivity of films with coarse surface are derived according to the model, and then verified by experimenting different materials. Experimental results show that errors of relative permittivity are under 5% after calculation by the correction formula. In conclusion, the proposed measurement technique is theoretically and practically applicable for the complex permittivity measurement of low-thickness polymer films about 10~100 μm.

Measuring Technique and Error Analysis of Complex Permittivity of Polymer Films Based on Contact Method

In multimotor servo systems, load tracking and motor synchronization are two key control objectives, necessitating the high-performance control design accompanied by high-precision measurements of position, speed, and current. This paper presents a fixed-time command filtered control strategy based on full-state measurements to simultaneously realize position tracking and speed synchronization. In the tracking control design, command filters are introduced to approximate derivatives of virtual control signals to avoid the "explosion of complexity" problem. An improved compensation mechanism with double fractional powers is constructed to further eliminate filtering errors. A fixed-time control approach is utilized to accelerate the convergence process and improve the tracking accuracy. In the synchronization control design, a practical grouping control is proposed to cooperate with the backlash elimination method, and the control inputs are superimposed on current commands to quickly attain speed synchronization. The fixed-time convergence of both the tracking error and the synchronization error is proved through Lyapunov theory. Experiments are conducted on a four-motor servo platform, and the obtained results demonstrate the effectiveness and practicality of the proposed strategy.
