Based on morphometric studies, the vertebral column of the frigate tuna. Auxis thazard, can be divided into three morphologically distinct regions; postcranial, middle and ural. Biometrical measurement of the length, height and width of the vertebral column of Auxis thazard allows vertebral profiles with characteristic features to be drawn. The differences in length of vertebrae present in different regions of the vertebral column cause regionalization in this structure. These morphologically descriptive parameters express a morphotype which seems to have a functional link with the frigate tuna's thunniform mode of swimming. The rediscovered specimen MGUWr 7536p, one of the syntypes of Dewalquea haldemiana, is described. It is selected as the lectotype of Debeya (Dewalquea) haldemiana (DEBEY ex SAPORTA et MARION 1873) HALAMSKI 2013 and of Debeya (Dewalquea) haldemiana var. haldemiana. It is the most complete and best preserved known specimen of the species. It allows supplementation of previous description of the following characters: brochidodromous secondary venation; acuminate leaflet apices; variation of the petiolule length from 0 (leaflets subsessile) to 30 mm; ramified tertiary venation. Other species considered up to now to belong to the same subgenus possess percurrent tertiary venation; a doubt is therefore expressed about the validity of the present circumscription of Debeya (Dewalquea). Additonally, validation of the previously published name Debeya (Dewalquea) haldemiana var. angustifolia (HOSIUS et VON DER MARCK 1880) HALAMSKI comb. nov. is presented.

A new artificial crinoid genus of the myelodactylid type Simakocrinus gen. nov. (col.) and two Early Devonian species belonging to this genus, i. e: Simakocrinus facilis sp. nov. (col.) from Pragian and S. diligens sp. nov. (col.) from Late Emsian strata are described. The stratigraphical range and paleoecology of the new genus in the Bohemian Early and Middle Devonian is discused. A record of the localities in which the columnals and stem fragments of the crinoid genus Simakocrinus gen. n. have been found is included.

Very gracile dog bones dated to the 8 th -9 th century AD were found at the Chotěbuz-Podobora archaeological site in the Czech part of Silesia near the town of Český Těšín.Osteological analysis indicated that the bones were from a greyhound.To confirm this hypothesis, genetic analysis of greyhound-specific Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in the control region (CD, also D-loop) of the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) was performed, together with analysis of buccal swabs from living greyhounds from the Czech Republic.Our genotyping results strongly support the hypothesis that bones found were from a greyhound which supports the second hypothesis that an elite order inhabited Chotěbuz-Podobora hillfort in the Middle Ages.

Teeth of the genus Ptychodus (Elasmobranchii, Ptychodontidae) from the Bohemian Cretaceous basin (the Czech Republic) were first reported by Kašpar Maria von Sternberg in the 1820s.These specimens were kept at that time in the "Wlastenské Museum w Čechách" (= Patriotic Museum in Bohemia).During the summer of 1833, Louis Agassiz carried out an inventory of the "fossil fishes" in this museum.In a summary of this work, published in 1834, the name Ptychodus schlotheimii was introduced for the first time.Unambiguously referring to a figure of a "fish tooth" published by von Sternberg in 1827, Ptychodus schlotheimii AGASSIZ, 1834 is shown to be a senior synonym of Ptychodus latissimus AGASSIZ, 1835.Conditions exist, however, which allow reversal of precedence as stated in Article 23.9.1 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature.Thus, Ptychodus latissimus is regarded as valid, qualifying as a nomen protectum, whereas Ptychodus schlotheimii AGASSIZ, 1834 is invalid, qualifying as nomen oblitum.It can also be shown that Buffonites undulatus STERNBERG, 1829 and Buffonites knorrii STERNBERG, 1829 are senior synonyms of Ptychodus mammillaris AGASSIZ, 1835.In this case also reversal of precedence can be applied and Ptychodus mammillaris is qualified as nomen protectum, whereas Buffonites undulatus and Buffonites knorrii are qualified as nomina oblita.The nomenclatural acts presented in this article for preserving taxonomic stability allow to maintain Ptychodus mammillaris as the type species of the genus Ptychodus AGASSIZ, 1835.

In washings of weathered Třebotov Limestone of Early Devonian, Late Emsian age, isolated radials and rarely, the almost complete calyxes of new zophocrinid crinoids, have been found.These crinoids are closely related to the genus Tiaracrinus and are described here as a new genus and new species, Baficrinus vigilis gen.nov.et sp.nov.A list of crinoid taxa and parataxa described from the Třebotov Limestone in the Barrandian Area is included herein.
