The existence of poverty and unemployment requires that private businesses and other stakeholders work with the government to address them given the potential found in tourism. The purpose of the article is to present the role and meaning of community-based tourism (CBT) in addressing poverty and unemployment in the broad tourism industry. This article follows desktop research and primarily focuses on pathways to incentivize the transformation of the conventional/mass tourism sector so that is central in the fight against poverty and unemployment which are prevalent in society. The authors propose a framework that aims to transform the industry through the adoption of incentives to embrace the finer qualities found in CBT. The paper concludes with discussions centred on incentives for either profit and/or capital sharing based on socioeconomic principles grounded in current ownership of capital by industry staff and members of surrounding communities and local governments, espoused in the principles of CBT.

The review concerns the Geological and Engineering Atlas of Lublin–Świdnik, edited by Marta Chada and Anna Stawicka, published in 2022 by the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute. The review highlights the uniqueness of this work, its interdisciplinary nature and the wealth of information it contains. Both the strengths of the atlas, such as the detailed geological and engineering documentation of the region, and its weaknesses, including editorial shortcomings and the excessive density of data, which may hinder comprehension for less prepared readers, were identified. The significance of the atlas for specialists in the fields of geology and civil engineering was emphasized due to its ability to provide accurate and up-to-date data essential for planning and executing infrastructure projects. The review also draws attention to the educational value of the atlas, suggesting that it can serve as a textbook for scientists and students interested in engineering geology and contemporary trends in this field. Additionally, the review points out the importance of the atlas for professionals, decision-makers and governmental institutions due to its contribution to the recognition of geological and engineering conditions in the Lublin agglomeration and potential hazards, which is crucial for infrastructural safety and sustainable development.

Lublin is a voivodeship city located in the Lublin Upland (Eastern Poland). The study aimed to present the spatial differentiation of soils of the city of Lublin and some of their properties. The knowledge of soil cover is very important for spatial planning and for protection and proper use of soil resources of each city. The environmental-genetic map of Lublin’s soils included in this work was made on the basis of soil-agricultural map in the scale 1:25 000 of Lublin and the soil-habitat map of the Świdnik Forest District. The soil units distinguished on the map were classified according to the Systematics of Soils of Poland (2019) and the international soil classification (World Reference Base for Soil Resources, WRB). The spatial variability of Lublin’s soils is determined by the occurrence of different parent rocks, relief, water relations, vegetation cover and human activities. The main soil units occurring within the city of Lublin include: brown soils (WRB: Eutric/Dystric Cambisols), rusty soils (Brunic Arenosols), podzolic soils (Albic Podzols), clay-illuvial soils/lessive soils (WRB: Albic/Haplic Luvisols), black earths (WRB: Gleyic Phaeozems), chernozemic rendzinas (WRB: Rendzic Phaeozems) and brown rendzinas (WRB: Calcaric Cambisols), chernozemic/black alluvial soils (WRB: Fluvic Phaeozems) and ordinary alluvial soils (WRB: Dystric/Eutric Fluvisols), peat soils (WRB: Hemic/Sapric Histosols) and murshic soils (WRB: Murshic Histosols), and technogenic soils (WRB: Urbic/Spolic/Ekranic Technosols). The grain size composition of Lublin’s soils is quite diverse, with the most common being silts, loams and sands with varying proportions of skeletal parts. The reaction of the Lublin soils studied also varies. Very acidic and acidic reaction is present mainly in podzolic and rusty soils and typical acid brown soils. In contrast, proper brown soils are slightly acidic to neutral in the upper genetic horizons. Lessive soils also have an acid reaction in the upper genetic horizons. Fluvisols have a slightly acidic to alkaline reaction, and black earths have a neutral to alkaline reaction. The alkaline reaction is found in rendzinas and technogenic soils, in which significant amounts of calcium carbonate are present. Soil organic matter is mainly accumulated in organic soils (peat and muck soils), as well as in the surface organic horizons (O) of forest soils. In the mineral soils of Lublin, the highest content of organic carbon (C-org) was found in such soils as black earths, chernozemic rendzinas, chernozemic alluvial soils and in some technogenic soils. The usable quality of Lublin’s soils is high. There is a phenomenon of management of land with high bonitation classes for non-agricultural purposes, despite the high fees for excluding such land from agricultural production.

&lt;p&gt;Artykuł przedstawia wyniki analiz paleoekologicznych i chemicznych osadów dennych małego, twardowodnego jeziora Pniówno. W profilu o niezaburzonej strukturze zanalizowano zmiany składu subfosylnej fauny wioślarek (Cladocera, Crustacea), oznaczono zawartość węgla organicznego, węglanów i krzemionki (z wydzieleniem frakcji terygenicznej i biogenicznej) oraz wiek osadów za pomocą datowania metodą 210Pb. Dodatkowo, w oparciu o mapy archiwalne, przeanalizowano zmiany sieci wód powierzchniowych i użytkowania zlewni w okresie od początku XIX w. po czasy współczesne. Mimo powszechnego poglądu o pogarszającym się stanie wód powierzchniowych na skutek wzrostu presji antropogenicznej w okresie objętym analizą stwierdzono okresową poprawę stanu wód, którego przyczyną były najprawdopodobniej zmiany hydrologiczne i klimatyczne, umożliwiające rozwój roślinności zanurzonej, a także pustka osadnicza spowodowana działaniami podczas I wojny światowej.&lt;/p&gt;

An over 200-Year Environmental Change Record from the Highly Impacted Small, Hardwater Lake Pniówno (Chełm Hills)

Celem artykułu było prześledzenie zmian w turystyce, jakie zaszły w ostatnich latach na obszarach wiejskich w Polsce. Ze względu na znaczny odsetek gruntów rolnych (ok. 60%) i lasów (ok. 30%) w strukturze użytkowania ziemi szczególną uwagę zwrócono na agroturystykę i sylwanoturystykę. Dodatkowo poruszono problem kategoryzacji wiejskiej bazy noclegowej. W pracy wykorzystano dane Głównego Urzędu Statystycznego dla lat 2010 i 2016 oraz dane zamieszczone na portalach prowadzonych przez Polską Federację Turystyki Wiejskiej „Gospodarstwa Gościnne” oraz Lasy Państwowe. Niniejszy artykuł opiera się na analizie danych zastanych (tzw. desk research). Przeprowadzone badanie pokazało, że najwięcej kwater agroturystycznych zlokalizowanych było w małych gospodarstwach rolnych, jednakże usługi agroturystyczne częściej oferowały gospodarstwa większe i silniejsze pod względem ekonomicznym. Ze względu na małą skalę świadczenia usług agroturystycznych nie powinno się zakładać istotnego jej wpływu na rozwój terenów wiejskich. Ciągle rosnąca liczba osób korzystających z różnych form edukacji leśnej oraz stale wzrastająca liczba leśnych obiektów turystycznych świadczy o zwiększonym zainteresowaniu przez społeczeństwo tą formą turystyki wiejskiej oraz o pozytywnych korzyściach, jakie niesie za sobą przebywanie na terenach zalesionych.

Although nowadays tourists generate huge amounts of data online, so-called Big Data, little is known about their behavior in urban spaces. However, these sources of data are increasingly being used with modern technology to track the presence of tourists in urban areas that are attractive to tourists. The article aims to analyze urban tourist behavior using data from the social networking site Flickr. Machine learning methods were used to illustrate the temporal and spatial activities of the portal’s users. It was assumed that these activities could serve as an indicator of the volume of tourist traffic and interest in the urban space. The results of the analysis showed that in most cases the activity of the portal users in the form of the number of georeferenced photos was in line with the actual number of visitors to the most important tourist attractions in Kielce. The study can be seen as a contribution to a new stream of research in the field of digital geography. The limitations of the applied research methodology are also included in the conclusions.

Division of the tourism market based on age allows for a more accurate adjustment of tools and methods of communication to the needs of individual groups. This leads to increased benefits for both tourism product providers and tourists themselves, who appreciate a diversified offer that takes into account their lifestyle and expectations. Research on the tourist activity of generations X, Y and Z can be included in the process of creating marketing messages addressed to tourists visiting Muskau Park in the Lubusz Voivodeship. The HubSpot tool, literature and generational research provide a solid basis for marketing communication strategies, innovations and various forms of tourism.
