In the autumn of 2014, rescue excavations were carried out at 4A Graniczna Street in Muchobór Wielki, Wrocław. The 2-hectare excavation area yielded remains of a multi-phase settlement, including a stage from the pre-Roman Iron Age. The excavated finds primarily consisted of pottery vessel fragments, alongside a well-preserved middle La Tène Mötschwil-type brooch, daub, and animal bones. Among the identified features were pits, postholes, pit houses, and the remains of a ground-level post building with a well. However, while the structure dates to the Iron Age, its exact chronology remains a subject of debate. The discovery of this late pre-Roman Iron Age settlement in the Ślęza river zone provides further evidence that the area featured a network of settlements dating to the earliest phases of the late pre-Roman period. These settlements bridge the chronological gap between the decline of the Lower Silesian La Tène culture settlement and the earliest discoveries associated with the classical Przeworsk style.

W artykule przedstawiono historię powstania i rozwoju granatów ręcznych jako broni piechoty. Opisano najciekawsze konstrukcje polskich granatów z okresu międzywojnia i okupacji niemieckiej. Odnotowano zarówno prototypowe konstrukcje z czasów okupacji, które stanowiły podstawę do produkcji seryjnej i na niemal przemysłową skalę, jak i projekty samodziałowe, które nie spełniały warunków seryjności produkcji i których cechy, z uwagi na bardzo nikłą liczbę zachowanych egzemplarzy, są mało znane.

Archaeological excavations of the Institute of Archaeology UKSW lasted from July to August 2017. Principals have reviewed the area. In the first season, four excavations were opened – three (A–C) ones in the high castle and one (D) in the middle castle area. Trench A was founded on the outside of the south-eastern corner of the castle. The work was to verify the presence of the external wall – it was built from the side of the lake, present on the plans of the castle. During the excavation tests, the remains of the toilet tank were unveiled. Fragments of usable ceramics were extracted from these places. Samples were taken from vessels and transferred to the laboratory. During the chemical analysis, fatty acids were isolated. Based on the proportion of acids obtained, an attempt was made to interpret food prepared in dishes. The following tests were chosen for the tests: lid (P1), six den (P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, P7), two bellies (P9, P10) and two outlets (P8 and P11). After an overall analysis, it was found that FAME of plant and animal origin was detected in all samples.

Topory późnośredniowiecznych koczowników Wielkiego Stepu nie doczekały się jak dotąd większej uwagi badaczy. Informacje o nich są skąpe. Nie ma żadnych ikonograficznych wizerunków. Jedynie Jan de Plano Carpini napisał w swoim tekście, że Mongołowie używali toporów do zabijania jeńców. W tekstach mongolskich znajduje się informacja, że były one używane jako narzędzia pomocnicze podczas wypraw wojennych. Istnieje kilka zabytków archeologicznych, które czasami uważane są za topory nomadów. Ich bliższa ocena jest jednak w tym względzie negatywna. Dla późnośredniowiecznych wojowników Wielkiego Stepu topory nie stanowiły ważnej broni.

大草原晚期中世纪战士斧头军事功能的问题

The ancient Illyrian port city of Orik, located in what is now Albania, was an important maritime and Cultural Centre in the Adriatic region. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of all available ancient textual evidence of Orik, tracing its evolution from the 5th century BCE to late antiquity. The examination of these written sources is crucial for reconstructing the history and topography of Orik, which cannot be fully identified only by archaeological data. The main purpose of the study is to systematically identify, collect, and analyse every mention of Orik in ancient studies, including the studies of Herodotus, Pseudo-Skilax, Strabo, Titus Livius. To obtain precise and objective conclusions, a rigorous methodology was applied, which includes source criticism, comparative analysis, and correlation with archaeological data. The study provides valuable information about the evolution of Orik’s functions and status over time, its fortifications, economic activities, religious objects, and more. It allows for tracing how the knowledge of ancient geographers about this border town developed and how Greco-Roman authors portrayed it in their narratives. The most innovative contribution of the study is the first comprehensive investigation of the entire body of textual evidence about Orik. This holistic synthesis enables a deeper reconstruction of this influential Adriatic settlement. The results enhance understanding of ancient Illyria and the complex dynamics of its Hellenization. They are beneficial for related research and education. Overall, by systematically collecting and critically analysing all available ancient sources, this study offers a multi-layered portrait of Orik as a strategic Greek colony, Illyrian stronghold, maritime trade hub, and crossroads of cultural fusion in the Adriatic.

W 2022 r. przeprowadzono weryfikacyjne badania archeologiczne w Rudzińcu na Górnym Śląsku, których celem było potwierdzenie istnienia we wsi reliktów dworu na kopcu z późnego średniowiecza. W wyniku badań archeologicznych ustalono, że w obrębie kopca będącego przedmiotem badań zachowały się pozostałości murowanego budynku dworskiego, wzniesionego najpewniej u schyłku XVI lub w pierwszej połowie XVII w. na miejscu starszego założenia dworskiego. W wypełnisku odkrytej piwnicy dworu odkryto również pozostałości kafli piecowych o cechach późnogotyckich i renesansowych, które świadczyć mogą o użyciu elementów starszego pieca do wyposażenia wnętrza nowszego, w pełni nowożytnego budynku. W artykule rozważane są potencjalne powody, które mogły doprowadzić do takiego wtórnego wykorzystania części urządzenia grzewczego.

The article presents the results of archaeobotanical studies on plant macroremains preserved both in charred form and as imprints in pottery and daub. The materials were collected from Funnel Beaker culture sites in Kałdus, Sławęcinek, Kietrz, and Małe Czyste. In total, 218 daub fragments and 33 pottery sherds were analysed. Most of the assemblages contained at least one of the searched items, such as imprints and/ or charred macroremains. Hulled wheat (Triticum monococcum/dicoccon/spelta) chaff, including glumes, glume bases, spikelet forks, and culms and blades of indeterminate cereals and/or wild grasses (Cerealia/ Poaceae indet.), were among the most commonly found imprints. Interestingly, some assemblages contained crushed bones and microscopic charred wood fragments, illustrating a husbandry strategy that utilised all accessible resources.
