The calcination process was used to remove free carbon and to change the structure of amorphous microsilica powder. The results show that the carbon content in amorphous silica powder strongly depends on the calcination temperature. When the calcination temperature is higher than 900[Formula: see text]C, the free carbon content, SiO 2 content and weight loss of microsilica powder tend to be stable, with values of 0.05%, 83.8% and 4.8%, respectively. The crystalline structure, particle size and morphology start changing at a calcination temperature of 850[Formula: see text]C. When the calcination temperature is higher than 900[Formula: see text]C, the amorphous microsilica powder is fully crystallized. The morphology of the silica fume kept its original spherical shape under 850[Formula: see text]C, while above 850[Formula: see text]C the microsilica powder recrystallizes. These results provide a basis for chemical removal of metal impurities in the preparation of high-purity silica powder.

Removal of free carbon and crystal structure change of amorphous silica fume by calcination

Three-dimensional finite element simulation has been carried out to understand better the crack initiation and growth at the edge side of silicon steel sheet during cold rolling, which is attributable to elastic deformation of work roll, i.e., roll bending. Strain-controlled failure model was coupled with finite element method and a series of FE simulation has been carried out while three different roll bending modes are considered. FE simulation shows that the negative roll bending mode during rolling affects significantly the crack initiation behavior. When the strain for failure was reduced by 20%, number of elements removed was increased by about 305%. If an initial crack with 2.5mm in length was assumed on the strip, the initial edge crack propagated toward inner region of strip and the propagated length is about 10times of the initial edge crack length.

FE SIMULATION OF EDGE CRACK INITIATION AND PROPAGATION OF CONVENTIONAL GRAIN ORIENTATION ELECTRICAL STEEL

First-principles investigations are employed to provide a fundamental understanding of the structural features, phase stability, mechanical properties, Debye temperature, and hardness of manganese tetraboride. Eight candidate structures of known transition-metal tetraborides are chosen to probe. The calculated lattice parameters, elastic properties, Poisson’s ratio, and [Formula: see text] ratio are derived. It is observed that the monoclinic structure with [Formula: see text] symmetry (MnB 4 –MnB 4 ) is the most stable in energy. The mechanical and thermodynamic stabilities of seven possible phases are confirmed by the calculated elastic constants and formation enthalpy. Moreover, the analysis on density of states demonstrates semiconducting behavior of MnB 4 –MnB 4 and different metallic behaviors of other phases. The estimated hardness of MnB 4 –MnB 4 is 38.3 GPa, which is in good agreement with experimental value. Furthermore, the relationship between hardness and Debye temperature is investigated and verifies that MnB 4 –MnB 4 is a newly potential semiconducting ultrahard material with high melting point. It provides a new perspective of searching for semiconducting superhard materials to be applied in extreme conditions.

Phase stability, Debye temperature and hardness of semiconducting manganese tetraboride MnB4: First-principles investigations

Using the double-time Green’s function method in combination with the random phase approximation and Anderson–Callen approximation, we investigate the magnetic properties of the ferrimagnetic Heisenberg model on a decorated square lattice. The effects of nearest-neighbor interactions and single-ion anisotropy on the compensation temperature are explored. Our results indicate that the next-nearest-neighbor interaction and/or single-ion anisotropy are not a necessary condition of the appearance of compensation temperature. When considering only the nearest-neighbor interaction, the system can also exhibit a compensation temperature. By comparing the impact of the nearest-neighbor interaction and single-ion anisotropy on the sublattice magnetizations of the system, a general condition of the appearance of compensation temperature is claimed.

Compensation temperature of a three-sublattice ferrimagnetic Heisenberg model

First-principles calculations have been employed here to investigate the optical and electrical properties of experimentally synthesized Mo(W)S 2 -SnO 2 vdW heterostructures [J. Phys. Chem. C 2020, 124, 1, 647–652, Chem. Phys. 2019, 525, 110398]. Rigorous dynamical stability assessments confirm structural robustness, evident in phonon dispersion and AIMD simulations at 500 K. The interfacial binding energy values reflect the stability of our simulated heterostructures. With intrinsic type-II band alignment and direct band gaps of 1.21[Formula: see text]eV (MoS 2 -SnO[Formula: see text] and 1.003[Formula: see text]eV (WS 2 -SnO[Formula: see text], these heterostructures emerge as promising candidates for high-efficiency optical devices. Higher static dielectric constants in comparison with numerous heterostructures signify low charge carrier recombination rates, enhancing practical appeal. Optical analyses reveal substantial visible and ultraviolet (UV) spectrum absorption, while MoS 2 -SnO 2 and WS 2 -SnO 2 heterostructures exhibit photoelectric conversion efficiencies of 15.08% and 13.65%. A thorough examination of optical characteristics provides a comprehensive understanding of positioning Mo(W)S 2 -SnO 2 vdW heterostructures for advanced optoelectronic devices.

Comprehensive investigation of electronic and optical features in two-dimensional MoS2/WS2-SnO2 van der Waals heterostructures

In this work, the effects of an ultrashort laser pulse on the excitation and ionization dynamics of a hydrogen guested endofullerene system embedded in a quantum plasma environment under spherical encompassment are investigated. The interaction of the plasma environment is considered within the more general exponential cosine screened Coulomb (MGECSC) potential model, and the excitation and ionization dynamics are analyzed through plasma screening parameters. For endohedral confinement, the relevant model that aligns with experimental data and is most suitable for static endohedral encapsulation is the Woods–Saxon potential model. By considering different numerical ranges of the parameters in this model, the effects of various forms of fullerenes are thoroughly explained through the analysis of confinement depth, spherical shell thickness, inner radius and the smoothing parameters. The effects of the characteristic properties of the laser pulse, such as its intensity and frequency, on the probability dynamics are also discussed. All parameters and their respective ranges are important for optimizing system performance. Additionally, the alternatives of all parameters related to the plasma-embedded endofullerene system for probability dynamics are considered. In this context, the findings cause new ideas in the controlled excitation and ionization processes of endofullerene systems embedded in a quantum plasma environment and provide a significant foundation for future experimental studies.

Magnetic Cobalt Oxide (CoO/Co 2 O 3 /Co 3 [Formula: see text] and Nickel Oxide (NiO) Nanoparticles have been widely reported as heterogeneous catalysts for the preparation of derivatives of heterocycles. These are abundant, eco-friendly, relatively nontoxic and inexpensive catalysts. This review consists of the previous 10-year publications on the catalytic applications of Cobalt Oxide and Nickel Oxide Nanoparticles for the synthesis of heterocycles and their derivatives. Among the various metal oxide nanomaterials reported in the literature as catalyst materials for the synthesis of varied heterocycles and their derivatives, we have kept our focus on the key materials viz. Cobalt Oxide and Nickel Oxide Nanoparticles. In the conclusion part, we have also commented on the better options for the catalyst selection among the reports covered in this paper. This paper will definitely be useful for new researchers in the metal oxide nanomaterials-based catalytic applications for synthetic heterocyclic compounds.

A systematic review on catalytic synthesis of heterocyclic compounds using cobalt oxide and nickel oxide nanomaterials

Photovoltaic devices are expected to display peak performance if fabricated with perfect single crystals. Since surfaces break the periodicity of a single crystal, there are regions of defects, which give rise to states inside the forbidden energy gap. In polycrystalline thin films, the main structural defect is the grain boundary. The presence of grain boundaries affects the optical absorption, carrier mobility and lifetime of the semiconductor. This review focuses on grain boundary passivation in thin film photovoltaic devices based on copper chalcogenides. Achieving enhanced performance in copper chalcogenide thin film Photovoltaic devices requires effective grain boundary passivation. This approach aims to mitigate the adverse effects of grain boundaries on the optoelectronic properties of the material, leading to improved efficiency and stability in Photovoltaic devices. The abstract discusses recent developments, methodologies and outcomes related to grain boundary passivation strategies, shedding light on their significance in advancing the performance of copper chalcogenide thin film Photovoltaic devices. The exploration of grain boundary passivation in this context contributes valuable insights to the ongoing efforts in optimizing the performance of thin film Photovoltaic technologies.
