The Journal of Biosciences is a quarterly publication by the Indian Academy of Sciences in Bangalore, covering all areas of biology and recognized as a leading national journal in its field. It is indexed in current directories and other standard biological and medical databases. The journal was established in 1934 as part of the Proceedings of the Indian Academy of Sciences (Section B). In 1978, it was divided into three sections: Proceedings-Animal Sciences, Proceedings-Plant Sciences, and Proceedings-Experimental Biology. In 1979, the Proceedings-Experimental Biology was renamed the Journal of Biosciences; in 1991, the Proceedings-Animal Sciences and Proceedings-Plant Sciences were merged into it.
