Evolutionary Ecology is a research journal focused on the intersection of ecology and evolutionary biology. The papers we publish aim to integrate these two fields, exploring biological ecology research in an evolutionary context or evolutionary patterns explained by ecological processes. The journal accepts original research and discussions related to evolutionary ecology, covering topics such as population ecology, organism interactions and co-evolution, behavior, life history, communication, morphology, host-parasite interactions, disease ecology, and genetic processes. Our goal is to advance the concepts, theories, and empirical developments in both ecology and evolutionary biology, with a scope that extends to any organism or system. In addition to original research articles, we also welcome commentaries that investigate recent developments in the field of evolutionary ecology; idea and opinion articles that propose new perspectives and hypotheses; and reviews of recently published articles in evolutionary ecology or related fields. We also encourage new tests of existing ideas—using broader data or more rigorous methods to test established hypotheses. Furthermore, we welcome shorter natural history notes that showcase new observations of field biology, potentially inspiring future research. Since 2018, we have also invited methodological papers that introduce or review new theories, practices, or analytical methods used in evolutionary ecology. We particularly encourage submissions from students and early-career researchers (defined as within one year of obtaining their PhD) for commentaries, ideas, opinions, and methodological papers.

Journal Citation Format

Those examples are references to articles in scholarly journals and how they are supposed to appear in your bibliography.

Not all journals organize their published articles in volumes and issues, so these fields are optional. Some electronic journals do not provide a page range, but instead list an article identifier. In a case like this it's safe to use the article identifier instead of the page range.

A journal article with 1 author

A journal article with 2 authors

A journal article with 3 authors

A journal article with 5 or more authors
