Introduction: Permanent tooth avulsions (traumatic extraction; total luxation) are one ofthe most severe permanent tooth injuries and can occur as single injuries or associated with other dental injuries or injuries to the face and jaws region. They are defined as the luxation of teeth from the alveoli with complete rupture of periodontal fibres, or with one part attached to the rootcementum and the other to the alveolar bone, thus compromising the dental pulp, root cementum,and alveolar bone. The high prevalence and numerous negative consequences on the stomatognathic systems they have suggest permanent tooth avulsions should be regarded as an important public health problem. The aim: is to point out the therapeutic possibilities of permanent tooth avulsion that can ensure their longer survival in the oral cavity. Conclusion: The treatment strategy for avulsed permanent teeth is always based on limiting root canal infection and periradicular inflammation, shifting the balance from unfavourable (replacement resorption) to favourable (periodontal) healing. The success of therapy and periodontal healing depend on the duration and conditions of extraoral tooth preservation, the degree of damage to the periodontal ligament, and the condition of the pulp.

Permanent tooth avulsion in children and adults: Therapeutic options for longer survival

Introduction: Under the concept of regenerative periodontal therapy, there are two approaches: the first is the passive regeneration conceptthat includes bone substituents and guided periodontal regeneration by using of biomembranes and the second concept of active regeneration that impliesthe use of growth factors. The aim of the passive regeneration, by using of bone matrix (bone substituens) has been stabilization and bone defects management, preventing epithelial tissue growth, as well as saving space for the new tissue regeneration. This concept implies the use of autogenous transplantats, xenografts, allografts, as well as alloplastic materials. The carriers for active tissue regeneration, growth factors -GF are biological mediators that regulate cellular processes and that is crucial for the tissue regeneration. Aim:Presentation ofmodern approaches to periodontal therapy thatare focused on the attachment regeneration and complete reconstruction of periodontal tissue. Conclusion: In the future, periodontal regenerative therapy with periodontalligament progenitor cells should encourage repopulation of the areas that have been affected by periodontal disease.

Introduction: Prostatitis is one of the most chronic diseases which is often associated with periodontitis. The serum Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) levels can be elevated in a non-malignant condition such as symptomatic and asymptomatic prostatitis. Similarity in the inflammatory etiopathogenesis of these diseases is evident through the presence of Gram negative bacteremia, which in turn may be the possible link between these two conditions. Aim: To estimate the possible association between chronic periodontitis and prostatitis, evaluating the PSA levels in patients with moderate and severe periodontitis. Material and methods: 40 patients with prostatitis and elevated Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) levels (≥ 4ng/ml) that participated in the study were hospitalized at the University Urology Clinic at the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje. Patients were divided into two groups on the basis of the levels of periodontal clinical attachment. First group of 20 patients with Clinical attachment level (CAL) ≥ 3mm, moderate periodontitis and other group of 20 patients with CAL ≥ 5mm, severe periodontitis. Dental plaque index (DPI), Index of gingival inflammation (IGI), Gingival bleeding index (GBI) and Clinical attachment level (CAL) were recorded and an assessment of PSA values was done and correlation to periodontal parameters, respectively. Differences in means, as statistically significant, were analyzed using Student's ttest. The relationship between PSA scores with all clinical parameters was done using Pearson's correlation coefficient technique. Results: Statistically significant differences were noted, (p&lt;0.05) between periodontal index values (DPI, IGI, GBI, CAL) and PSA levels within the two examined groupsHigher PSA levels were recordedin patients with severe periodontitis than inthose with moderate periodontitis. Pearson coefficient test among these periodontal indices (DPI, IGI, GBI and CAL) and PSA levels in two examined groups showed no statistically significant correlation. Conclusion: Patients with severe periodontitis were found to have higher PSA levels than those with moderate periodontitis. The clinical parameters of periodontitis and elevated PSA levels indicated a probable link between the two diseases.

Possible association between periodontitis and prostatitis: A pilot study

Introduction: Oral health maintenance is essential in the immune system against corona virus disease (COVID)-19 infection due to the presence of IgA in saliva. Oral health is affected by knowledge, attitudes, and practices. Aim of study is to investigate the oral health, knowledge, attitudes and practice among people in monitoring (PiM) during the covid 19 pandemic in Makassar. Materials and methods: The population of this study was Makassar citizens who have been identified as people in monitoring (PiM). Online questionnaire was sent via Google form to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practice. Results: In the category level of oral health knowledge, attitudes and practices among 72 PiM in Makassar, 25%, 50%, and 25% respondents were categorized as having poor, moderate and good knowledge, respectively. In the category of oral health attitude variable, 40.3%, 34.7% and 25% respondents were categorized as poor, moderate and good, respectively. In the category of oral health practices, there were 26.4%, 38.9% and 34.7% of respondents with low, moderate and good oral health practices, respectively. Conclusion: Most PiM in had low oral health knowledge, low oral health attitude and medium oral health practices.

Oral health knowledge, attitude and practice among people in monitoring during COVID-19 pandemic in Makassar

Background:In everyday clinical practice, patients who seek dental care in case of oral mucosa diseases are one of the most difficult categories of patients due to difficulties in diagnosis and treatment. Materials and methods: The review and analysis of scientific and medical literature based on the Scopus, Web of Science, MedLine, PubMed, NCBI databases, the study of which does not exceed 5 years, including literature reviews and the results of clinical trials. Results: Changes in the oral mucosa can be clearly specific. Clinicians can make the correct diagnosis and determine the tactics of treatment by appearance. However, in most cases the diagnosis of diseases with this anatomical location is complicated, because the clinical picture is nonspecific and often burdened with additional local and general adverse factors. A detailed clinical examination and additional research methods are required to establish the correct diagnosis. Diagnosis of oral mucosa diseases is based on a careful assessment of clinical and laboratory data. Conclusions: Taking into account the prevalence of diseases of the oral mucosa, of particular interest is the question of the course of the process of differentiation of the epithelium of various anatomical zones in the norm and the mechanisms of restructuring of the cellular composition in pathological processes, with the cops of objectifying the diagnosis, predicting the course of the disease and pathogenetically substantiated treatment.

Modern view on mechanisms of epithelium differentiation of the oral mucosa in normal and pathological processes

Background: The presence of mucosal changes and variations is quite high among institutionalized adults. Aim: The present study aimed to determine the prevalence of oral mucosal changes among the institutionalized elderly. Material and method: The presented data originate from research done in the period from May-July 2018 in "Mother Teresa" nursing home in Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia. The investigation included a total number of 70 subjects older than 65 years and it was focused on the presence of mucosal changes. In describing the changes in oral mucosa we have used two differentiated termslesion or pathological change and variation from normal. Results: During the examination of the prevalence of oral mucosal lesions we have found that all the subjects have at least one oral change in their oral cavity. The average number of oral changes among the examined institutionalized elderly is 2,24 ± 0,69. Total number of diagnosed changes on oral mucosa among all 70 subjects was 157. In the group of normal mucosa, variations dominate status fordyce (35.71 %) and coated tongue (28,57%). In the group of pathological changes, there is a domination of the lesions associated with the wearing of prosthetic devices-ulcerous changes caused by the prosthetic devices (15.71%) and stomatitis protetica (10%). Conclusion: In the investigated population, there is a one hundred percent presence of oral changes. Most of them are variations of the oral mucosa. But more important pathological lesions are those associated with wearing prosthetic devices. Also, it is very important to stress that pathological lesions require constant monitoring.

Prevalence of oral mucosal lesions among the institutionalized elderly people

Introduction: Dental implantation is a process of implanting dental implants into the bone of a patient, in places where one or more teeth are missing. For successful implantation, the process of osteointegration has to happen, which means that the dental implant placed in the bone should create a connection with it. The success of the osteointegration process depends on several factors, one of which is a biological modification of the material from which the implant is made. As a failure, it can occur during periimplantitis. Aim: The present study aimed to prove the influence of the foreign body on osteointegration during dental implantation, that is, the cause of peri-implantitis. The subject of our research was the analysis of new, sterile implants and their comparison with fallen, lost implants Materials and methods: For this scientific research we used a scanning electron microscope, which allows a detailed analysis of the implant surface. The analysis was performed on brand new, as well as on failed implants. A Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) is a type of electron microscope that produces images of a sample by scanning its surface with a focused beam of electrons. Results: As a consequence of the deposition of many minerals (like Mg, and P), a higher wear resistance occurs on the implant surface. Traces of contaminant Na along with carbon, N, Ca, Al and O were also detected on the Ti surface of the failed implants, which are fallen implants. All these elements negatively affect the implantation success and are the cause of unsuccessful implant treatment. Conclusion: Dental implant contamination is a key factor for the success/failure of implantation. Traces of organic and inorganic contaminants can be found, despite the implant cleaning process and surface treatment of Ti, substances such as acid and sand.

Modifications on the dental implant surfaces and their influence on the osteointegration process

Introduction: Beauty and attractiveness of a person's facial features are very subjective and also influenced by many factors, such as cultural, social, and personal. It is due to many complex neural mechanisms, that we are able to perceive everything, and also decide if something is attractive or not. The most common and the most significant factors associated with good facial aesthetics are symmetry and proportions of the face. It is important to note that they can be thoroughly analysed using photogrammetry, which represents a non-invasive technique that involves using photographs or 3D imaging methods to capture and analyze the craniofacial structures and features for diagnostic, treatment planning, monitoring and research purposes. When it comes to photogrammetry, angular parameters such as nasofrontal, nasolabial, mentolabial and facial profile angle and linear parameters such as facial width to height ratio, nasal width, interocular and interpupillary distance, philtrum length, chin and forehead height of the face are of great importance. Aim: In this literature survey authors wanted to highlight if these measurements and parameters were enough for determining the beauty and attractiveness of a face if used on their own. Conclusion: Facial photogrammetry has several applications in the field of medicine, particularly in areas such as dermatology, orthodontics, maxillofacial and plastic surgery, due to the usage of angular and linear parameters, as well as other purposes. With many advancements and adjustments, it has become accurate and accessible and has also significantly improved diagnostics, patient care, treatments and outcomes in various cases in medicine and dentistry.

Facial photogrammetric measurements as beauty landmarks

Introduction: Haemophilia is one of the most common haemorrhagic diseases from the group of coagulopathies and results from a deficiency of factors responsible for the first phase of coagulation. Aim: This informative paperwork aims to highlight the principles of oral surgical treatment of patients with haemophilia. Material and methods: The available literature was analysed to indicate the basic characteristics of haemophilia (clinical manifestation, possibilities of treatment and prophylaxis of the disease) with special reference to specificity and principles of dental oral surgical treatment of patients with haemophilia. Conclusion: The treatment of patients with haemophilia is considered one of the riskiest in everyday dental practice. Despite this, dental interventions can be successfully and safely performed. However, the dentist must be acquainted with the nature of the disease, its symptoms and the severity of the clinical picture. Furthermore, the dentist needs to know what kind of therapy the patient receives for the treatment of haemophilia, whether the patient has been diagnosed with inhibitors to the coagulation factor, and whether the patient has concomitant diseases with special reference to possible infectious diseases. Along with that, the key to a successful and safe intervention lies in a well-planned preoperative, perioperative and postoperative treatment of patients with haemophilia.

Introduction: Different orthodontic appliances like reverse headgear and face masks are recommended for patients in the growing period with skeletal Class III malocclusion characterized by maxillary retrognathism, among moderate to severe cases. For most patients with Class III malocclusion seen in the early mixed dentition or late deciduous dentition, a Delaire face mask is the customary choice. Aim: Taking into account the aforementioned factors, as well as the growing importance of aesthetics in modern society, the main goal of this research was to analyse the relevant aspects of using face masks in the treatment of Class III malocclusion. Adequate literature research was performed to fulfil the main goal. Delaire face mask is commonly used for protraction of the maxilla. Conclusion: Some authors recommend early usage of face masks because they are more efficient in early treatment time and other studies do not show the relationship between the effect of maxillary face mask protraction and treatment timing. The principle of maxillary protraction is to apply tensile force on the circummaxillary sutures and stimulate bone apposition in the suture areas. Most of the authors conclude a positive effect of face mask treatment with significant improvement of skeletal parameters, and no significant difference between expansion/nonexpansion treatments. In conclusion, we can note that the effects of the treatment of Class III malocclusion with face masks largely depend on the knowledge of biological, orthopaedic and clinical aspects of their usage.
