Acupuncture and Electro-Therapeutics Research

Objective: To review the development of acupuncture and moxibustion-neural network regulation research systematically and comprehensively in China. Method: This study adopted co-word analysis, cluster analysis and other bibliometric methods such as SATI3.2, Citespace and Gephi to visually demonstrate the annual publication volume, cooperation between institutions and co-authorship in the field of acupuncture-neuro immunoregulation research based on the data of more than 70 papers on related topics covering a period of 24 years from 1997 to 2020 in China. Results: The results show that there are three major research institutions in the field of acupuncture-neuro immunoregulation, namely Shanghai, Zhejiang major research institutions in the field of acupuncture-neuro immunoregulation, namely Shanghai, Zhejiang and Heilongjiang Universities of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as 7 clusters, including immune function, acupuncture therapy and endogenous opioid peptide. In the future research, a more comprehensive system will be constructed based on the gradually clear relationship between meridians and nerve regulation, humoral regulation, and immune regulation. Application practice will combine traditional acupuncture with modern medicine to create a variety of new therapies, such as electroacupuncture, electric acupuncture, and acupoint injection. Conclusion: The research focus will be expanded on how to improve the clinical efficacy of multiple combined therapies such as acupuncture for the prevention and treatment of diseases through the regulation of immune cells and immune molecules as well as the regulation of the "acupuncture-meridian- neuroendocrine-immune" network.

Discussion on the Theoretical Basis for Acupuncture to Improve Knee Osteoarthritis from "Intestinal Microecology"

Introduction: In China, patients with chronic cholecystitis account for approximately 10% of the total population, in which over 90% of cholecystitis is caused by cholelithiasis. This study aimed to discuss the possible mechanism of electroacupuncture on the Yanglingquan acupoint promoting gallbladder contractibility of patients with chronic cholecystitis. Methods: 60 patients were randomly divided into a trial group and a control group. Doppler ultrasound and color Doppler blood flow imaging was applied. The trial group adopted the BT701-1B electroanesthesia apparatus to perform electroacupuncture on the bilateral acupoints of Yanglingquan, while electroacupuncture was made on sham acupoints in the control group. Results: Before the electroacupuncture, gallbladder volume was 49.6 ± 5.66 ml, after 15 min and 30 min of electroacupuncture, the gallbladder volume was then 32.9 ± 5.66 ml and 23.0 ± 2.83 ml respectively. The comparison before and after electroacupuncture was obviously and statistically different (P &lt; 0.01). The comparison between after 15 min and 30 min is obviously statistically different (P &lt; 0.01). Before the electroacupuncture, the gallbladder artery Vmax, Vmin, and RI were 18.4 ± 2.69 cm/s, 9.7 ± 0.07 cm/s, and 0.47 ± 0.06, respectively; the cystic artery Vmax, Vmin, and RI after 30 min were 8.1 ± 0.92 cm/s, 3.1 ± 0.57 cm/s, and 0.61 ± 0.02. The comparison in gallbladder artery Vmax and Vmin and the drag index (RI) before and after electroacupuncture was obviously and statistically different (P &lt; 0.01). Conclusions: Electroacupuncture on the acupoints of Yanglingquan has the potential to promote the emptying of the gallbladder. The mechanism may be related to that the smooth muscle of the gallbladder contracts after electroacupuncture and the gallbladder empties.

Influence of Electroacupuncture on Acupoints of Yanglingquan (GB34) on Gallbladder Volume and Gallbladder Arterial Hemodynamics in Patients With Chronic Cholecystitis

Objectives : By observing the effect of acupoint catgut embedding on the intestinal flora of ovariectomized osteoporotic rats, the correlation between the regulation of intestinal flora and the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis was discussed preliminarily. Methods : By observing the effect of acupoint catgut embedding on the intestinal flora of ovariectomized osteoporotic rats, the correlation between the regulation of intestinal flora and the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis was discussed preliminarily. Result: Compared with Group A and Group B, bone mineral density (BMD) of femur and tibia in Group C decreased significantly (p&lt;0.05), indicating successful modeling. Compared with Group C, BMD of femur and tibia in Group D was significantly increased (p&lt;0.05). Compared with Group A and Group B, content of serum estrogens, calcium, and PTHrP in Group C were significantly decreased (p&lt;0.05 or p&lt;0.01). Content of serum estrogen, calcium, and PTHrP in Group D were significantly higher than those in Group C (p&lt;0.05 or p&lt;0.01). Compared with Group A and Group B, the abundance of mollicutes, actinobacteria, acidobacteria, chloroflexi and fusobacteria in group C was significantly increased. The abundance of probiotics in Group D such as lactobacillales, (lactobacillaceae, lactobacillus), bacillales, and streptococcus was significantly higher than that in Group C (p&lt;0.05). The content of SCFAs such as acetic acid, butyric acid, iso-valeric acid, valeric acid and caproic acid in Group D were significantly higher than those in Group C, with statistical significance (p&lt;0.05). Conclusions : Acupoint catgut embedding can effectively improve BMD, increase content of estrogen, calcium, PTHrP and SCFAs. Furthermore, embedding can also improve the abundance of probiotics and reduce the abundance of pathogenic bacteria. The changes of intestinal flora were correlated with the changes of estrogen and calcium, which may be one of the mechanisms of acupoint catgut embedding in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.

Effect of Acupoint Catgut Embedding on Intestinal Flora in Rats with Ovariectomized Osteoporosis

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of acupuncture therapy on relapse of patients with gouty arthritis (GA). Methods: "gout OR gouty arthritis" AND "acupuncture therapy OR acupuncture OR moxibustion OR electroacupuncture OR fire needle OR acupotomology OR blood-letting puncture OR plum blossom needle" were used as search strategies for searching related studies. Twenty-two studies involving 2394 patients were enrolled in this research through the analysis of databases of CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library. Results: The results of pairwise meta-analysis and network meta-analysis (NMA) indicated that patients with acupuncture therapy had a significantly lower relapse rate (RR) compared with those without acupuncture therapy (OR = 0.21, 95% CI: 0.16-0.26, P &lt; 0.00001); the follow-up time (TFU) and serum urate concentration (SUA) before treatment had no significant effect on the reduction of RR caused by acupuncture therapy ( P &gt; 0.05); and patients treated with acupuncture plus Western medicine (WM) had the lowest RR (surface under the cumulative acupuncture therapy ( P &gt; 0.05); and patients treated with acupuncture plus Western medicine (WM) had the lowest RR (surface under the cumulative ranking [SUCRA] = 85.0%), followed by acupuncture plus traditional Chinese medicine (TCM, SUCRA = 73.5%), acupuncture only (SUCRA = 72.8%), fourthly acupuncture plus TCM and WM (SUCRA = 33.0%), then TCM (SUCRA = 28.7%), finally WM (SUCRA = 7.0%). Conclusion: Our finding may facilitate the application of acupuncture therapy in patients with GA. Our research also offered some information for the future research.

Although acupuncture therapy has a record of effectiveness and safety, the safety of acupuncture therapy requires both systematized professional skills and standardized application. In fact, acupuncture therapy has potential risk. Pneumothorax caused by acupuncture is a serious injury caused by this therapy. The causes are mainly related to improper needling depth, angle, manipulation, and selection of acupoints. In China, the medical institutions in which pneumothorax by acupuncture occurs are mainly community clinics, which reflects the lack of professional training of acupuncture practitioners in grass-roots medical and health institutions. Its prevention and control are discussed.

Globally, cerebrovascular events, commonly known as strokes, remain a significant health concern, presenting formidable challenges to neurologists across the nation. These strokes, responsible for a substantial number of fatalities, often lead to a debilitating condition known as Upper Arm Hemiplegia. Poststroke, effective rehabilitation is crucial for enabling individuals to regain their independence, particularly within the confines of their homes. However, the modern therapeutic options and features available can be challenging to access due to financial constraints and the overwhelming number of patients in need. In response to these challenges, there is a pressing need to leverage cutting-edge pneumatic technology to develop a portable device that can address these limitations. This paper introduces a novel, pneumatic-driven, wearable forearm device designed to optimize arm kinematics. This innovative wearable empowers patients, enabling them to regain control and dexterity in their fingers, thus improving their ability to perform daily activities. The pneumatic-actuated device consists of a compact upper arm miniature cylinder, controlled by advanced solenoid valves, all orchestrated by Arduino controller. This home-based rehabilitation device is not only small and lightweight but also boasts impressive power capabilities. Utilizing the latest trends in technology, the results of a sample subjected to the Fugl Meyer Assessment demonstrate the effectiveness of this portable device as an invaluable tool for home-based rehabilitation, ushering in a new era of stroke recovery.

ADVANCING HOME-BASED BRAIN ATTACK REHABILITATION WITH ELECTROTHERAPEUTICPNEUMATIC STIMULATED FOREARM DEVICE CONFIGURATIONS

Objective: To analyze applications of acupuncture treatments during perioperative period and foresee the development of acupuncture in general hospitals by analyzing the clinical data of 10,152 patients treated with acupuncture during perioperative period. Methods: Extracted the perioperative acupuncture treatment records from surgical departments from January 2015 to December 2020 through the Information Management Center of Qilu Hospital. Diagnosis, primary disease, and the department applying for perioperative acupuncture treatments were extracted from their medical records. Frequency of perioperative acupuncture treatments from each department, diseases treated by acupuncture, and primary diseases were counted. The number of acupuncture treatments were counted though the Lianzhong Digital Medical Record Retrieval System of the hospital and effectiveness was evaluated according to the course of disease. Results: There were 10,152 perioperative acupuncture treatments from 17 surgical departments with 43 wards. Each ward had at least one request for acupuncture treatments every month, and the utilization rate of acupuncture increased year over year. The top five departments with the highest number of requests for perioperative acupuncture treatments were the gynecology department, orthopedics department, neurosurgery department, general surgery department and urology department. Acupuncture was mainly used to promote gastrointestinal function (50%) and nerve function (39%), followed by promoting recovery of bladder function (6%) and other diseases existing in the perioperative period (5%). The effectiveness is recognized by patients and surgeons. Conclusion: Acupuncture has been widely used in postoperative rehabilitation and can go further. The treatment of perioperative conditions is an opportunity for the development of acupuncture in general hospitals.

Clinical Data Analysis of 10,152 Patients Treated with Acupuncture during Perioperative Period

10,152例患者围手术期针灸治疗的临床数据分析

Objective: This study aims to examine the incidence of post-chemotherapy perianal infection and its influencing factors in patients with acute leukemia.&lt;br&gt; Methods: A total of 243 patients with acute leukemia who underwent chemotherapy in the Three Gorges Hospital affiliated to Chongqing University, China, between January 2019 and December 2020 were selected as study subjects. In the present retrospective study, patients with post-chemotherapy perianal infection were monitored, and the perianal infection rate and clinical features of perianal infection were determined. Categorical variables were compared using the Chi-square test, and the influencing factors of post-chemotherapy perianal infection in patients with acute leukemia were evaluated using logistic analysis.&lt;br&gt; Results: A total of 24 patients (9.88%) with acute leukemia suffered post-chemotherapy perianal infection. Age, basic perianal disease (hemorrhoids) history, constipation, diarrhea, duration of agranulocytosis, and length of hospital stay were compared among the patients. Perianal disease classification, perianal ultrasound, colonoscopy, postoperative pathology, and other clinical data were compared and discussed in relation to the occurrence and development of the disease. The results showed that there were no significant differences in perianal infection degrees between genders and among different types of leukemia (p &gt; 0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in age, pain score, minimum white blood cell count, deficiency duration, and length of hospital stay among patients with different degrees of infection. The Spearman rank correlation test showed that the perianal infection degree was positively correlated with the highest hypersensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) level (p &lt; 0.05). The difference was statistically significant; the higher the maximum hs-CRP/procalcitonin levels, the more serious the perianal infection.&lt;br&gt; Conclusions: Perianal infections are common in the procession of chemotherapy or myelosuppression. This is worthy of clinical recognition. Early recognition of perianal infection and the strengthening of infection risk factor control may be beneficial to improving the subjective feelings of patients with acute leukemia undergoing chemotherapy.
