The American Journal of Preventive Medicine is the official journal of the American College of Preventive Medicine and the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research. It publishes articles in the fields of prevention research, education, practice, and policy. Original research is published that aims to prevent both chronic and acute diseases and to promote the health of individuals and communities. There is a particular emphasis on papers addressing primary and secondary prevention of significant clinical, behavioral, and public health issues, such as injury and violence, infectious diseases, women's health, smoking, sedentary behavior and physical activity, nutrition, diabetes, obesity, and substance use disorders. The journal also covers educational initiatives aimed at enhancing the capacity of health professionals to deliver effective clinical prevention and public health services. Additionally, it publishes health services research papers related to prevention and public health, as well as official policy statements, commentary articles, media reviews, and editorials from its two sponsoring organizations. Finally, the journal regularly publishes supplements and special issues focusing on current issues of concern in the field of prevention.
