Acta Ethologica is an academic journal focused on ethology and related disciplines, publishing empirical research, theoretical papers, short articles, reviews, book reviews, and methodological papers. The journal particularly emphasizes the integration of mechanistic (developmental) and functional (evolutionary) levels of research in behavioral analysis, with a special interest in topics such as the adaptive plasticity of behavior, inter-individual and geographical differences in behavior, the mechanisms underlying behavior, the evolutionary processes and functions of behavior, and many other related themes. Acta Ethologica is the official journal of the International Society for Ethology (ISPA), the Center for Behavioral Research (CRL), and the Portuguese Society of Ethology (SPE).
