In this paper, the water droplet erosion ( WDE) characteristics of four blade materials under different high-speed liquid-solid impingement conditions are tested with the experimental steps and data processing methods in ASTM-G73. On the basis of cumulative erosion curves, the maximum erosion rate ( ER max ) is obtained to analyze the WDE resistance of the testing materials quantitatively. The effects of target surface roughness, impact angle and impact velocity on the WDE characteristics of blade materials under specific working conditions are studied. The velocity coefficients ( n) of the testing materials under high-speed liquid-solid impact are analyzed. In order to investigate the mechanism of WDE, the material failure characteristics and shallow layer hardness ( SLH) at three characteristic moments corresponding to different WDE periods, are investigated with the SEM morphology of erosion section and hardness distribution along the depth direction at the impact position. The research results can provide reference data and technical support for the structure design and material selection of steam turbine blades.

Experimental investigation on the water droplet erosion characteristics of blade materials for steam turbine

The operational safety and stability of wind turbines are highly determined by the characteristics of main bearings, which are influenced by the axial clearance. In this paper, for the arrangement type of double-supported tapered roller bearings on the wind turbine main shaft, the actual clearance distribution assumption is established, and a new method of calculating the internal load distribution taking into account the axial clearance is proposed. Firstly, the mathematical relationship between the clearance of tapered roller bearings and ring displacement, contact deformation, and load interval is described. Secondly, the load components of main bearings are calculated by force balance equation and load-displacement condition. Finally, a mathematical model of main bearings including axial clearance is established, and it is numerically solved to obtain the internal load distribution of the bearings. The calculation results of a large megawatt wind turbine example show that: the axial load of both main bearings is negatively correlated with the sum of axial clearances; the number of loaded rolling elements is negatively correlated with the sum of axial clearances; and there exists an optimal value of the sum of axial clearances for main bearings to reach the optimal load carrying state.

Influence of axial clearance on load distribution in double supported tapered roller bearings of wind turbine main shaft

Recently, there has been considerable interest in developing novel energy-saving vehicles that use flapping foils propulsion systems inspired by biology. Facing increasingly complex application tasks, the coordination of multiple vehicles will be a hot issue in the future this research field. We are inspired by changes in configurations of biological collective behavior (known as schooling) in nature, focused on studying transient effects during transitions of three-dimensional bio-inspired flapping foils between two different bionic schooling configurations. Numerical simulations employing the immersed boundary-lattice Boltzmann method (IB-LBM) for unsteady hydrodynamics of flapping foils in schooling transitions were performed. Effects of different mutual transition modes between tandem and diamond schooling configurations on their thrust performance were investigated. Meanwhile, we present hydrodynamics of flapping foils in a schooling with different downstream flapping frequencies under the best transition mode. The results show that during transitions between two schooling configurations, there is an optimal energy-saving transition mode. It has nothing to do with the length of transition distance. Different downstream flapping frequencies will affect the interacting vortices between fluid and structure and then affect transient effects during schooling transition. Although the transition modes were specified, our research takes the transients effects of schooling transitions as an influencing factor to be considered for formations changes, which will provide a new idea for the design bio-inspired vehicle cluster formation.

Transient effects during transitions of bio-inspired flapping foils between two different schooling configurations

According to the trend of compressor upgrades in hydrogen refueling stations, this article optimizes the single exponential curve of membrane chamber volume and diaphragm stress that performs poorly. First, set the optimization goals as the membrane cavity volume and the arc length of the curve, use the MOPSO algorithm to optimize the curve, and fit the optimization results to obtain a new curve mathematical model. Then, select three curves for comparison. Theoretical calculations and finite element simulations were performed on the membrane cavity volume and diaphragm stress, and the theoretical calculation methods and results were verified with the help of existing experiments. Finally, it was found that the new curve can increase the membrane cavity volume and reduce the diaphragm stress requirement by changing its own parameters, and the new curve has a small amount of cavity volume near the transition point, which has little impact on the membrane cavity volume. Under the same maximum radial stress, the membrane cavity volume of the new curve can be increased by 5.56% compared to the single exponential curve, while under the same membrane cavity volume, the new curve can reduce the maximum stress on the gas side by 8.9% compared with the single exponential curve, and the maximum stress on the oil sides is reduced by 9.8%.

Multi-objective optimization of membrane cavity curve of diaphragm compressor and its verification

The small flowrate and the diaphragm’s short life are two shortcomings of the diaphragm compressor. This paper presents a new generatrix of the cavity profile of a diaphragm compressor to increase cavity volume and decrease diaphragm's radial stress. To verify the design theory, the radial stresses on the oil side of the diaphragm in the cavities with the new and traditional generatrices were tested, and the experimental radial stresses agreed with the theoretical values. As the most important evaluation criteria of the cavity profile, the volumes of the cavities with different generatrices and the radial stress distribution of the diaphragm within were investigated under various design conditions. The results showed that the volume of the cavity with the new generatrix was about 6.5% larger than that with the traditional generatrix under the same design condition. Otherwise, with the same cavity volume and radius, the maximal radial stress of the diaphragm in the cavity with the new generatrix decreased by 10.3% stably, compared to that in the cavity with a traditional generatrix. Likewise, in the diaphragm’s centric region where the additional stress caused by the discharge holes occurred, the maximal radial stress of the diaphragm in the cavity with the new generatrix decreased about 11.5%.

Aiming at the challenge of measuring errors in non-circular gears, it is proposed to establish the mathematical model of gear measuring center based on digital twin technology, and research on the detection method of pitch error of non-circular gears. The mathematical model simulates the operation of the gear measuring center, replacing traditional hardware with a 3D model and simulation software. By calculating the trajectory of the probe based on the unique characteristics of non-circular gears, the Portal program framework is developed. This framework allows for precise calculation of pitch errors and comparison with actual measurements to achieve accurate detection and analysis of the non-circular gear errors. The proposed approach reduces reliance on traditional experimental methods, offering a more efficient and accurate means of analyzing non-circular gear errors.

Stable collision detection method is the guarantee of cooperative robot in the process of human-robot interaction. In this paper, a robot collision detection method without additional sensors is proposed. An external moment observer based on generalized momentum deviation is constructed to realize collision detection by the deviation of robot theoretical momentum and actual momentum. Considering the influence of the external torque generated by the robot end load at the joint on the observer, this paper eliminates the interference of the load to the observer by compensating the equal torque generated by the load at the joint. Simulations and experiments demonstrate that the proposed collision observer can effectively eliminate the interference of terminal load and realize the function of collision detection accurately and quickly.

Collision observation of collaborative robots based on generalized momentum deviation

The development of a new generation platform stability system has broken through limitations in its core architecture. The system has both rapid response performance while retaining vibration isolation capability. However, there is an imperative requirement for model mechanism analysis and properties research on new systems. Accordingly, this research proposes a novel parallel – suspension type dynamics model of stabilized platform, and optimizes the key parameters. Concretely, spring elements considering columnar instability phenomenon are applied to isolators to create a parallel – suspension, which replaces the traditional series – gimbals configuration. Furthermore, a 3-DOF dynamic model of the inner frame of the stabilized platform is established, and the optimal parameters are obtained from a constraint index function presented by genetic algorithm. The numerical results show that the vibration isolation effect of the system attenuates the excitation signal energy by more than 70%, and still maintains the steering performance and stability simultaneously. The feasibility and superiority of the model and the parameter optimization method are tested by dynamics software, simulation signal and flight data respectively.

Dynamic modeling and parameters optimization of parallel – suspension type inertially stabilized platform

Due to the complexity of the multi constraint and multi closed-loop of parallel mechanisms (PMs), their dynamic equations require additional Lagrangian multipliers and constraint equations, which is unfavorable for solving the dynamic equations. In this paper, a multibody elastodynamic modeling of PMs based on the Lagrangian equations is proposed to fix this issue. First, we decompose the closed-loop PMs into open-loop ones by cutting open at the joints, and we propose the subassembly element that considers the flexible links and joints to avoid the singularity of the traditional constraint equations. Second, we extract the nonsingular independent coordinates for these nodes that are constrained by joints and rigid element through multi-point constraint theory and singularity analysis, and then summarized to establish the global independent generalized displacement coordinates (IGDCs). Third, we formulate the Lagrangian equations through the global IGDCs by closing the open-loop of the mechanism. The Guyuan, improved reduction system, subspace iteration method, and precision integration method are respectively presented to analyze the natural frequencies and dynamic response of the mechanism. The proposed method is computationally efficient because the computation concerning the Lagrangian multipliers are not required. Finally, the 3PRRR PM is presented to implement the proposed method.

Multibody elastodynamic modeling of parallel manipulators based on the Lagrangian equations without Lagrangian multipliers

The objective of this study was to examine the capability of the realizable k–ω turbulence model to accurately predict the position of the separation point in hypersonic flows. While the two-equation k–ω model is suitable for predicting boundary flows with zero pressure gradients, its reliability decreases for flows with adverse pressure gradients, particularly in complex flows where normal stresses calculated using the Boussinesq approximation can become negative and “non-realizable” under high strain conditions. To address this problem, this study proposes a solution by introducing new variables in the Cμ formulation of the realizable model, which can limit eddy viscosity and enhance its sensitivity to the mean flow and turbulence models. We conducted numerical simulations and found that the realizable model produced improved results that were close to those of the experimental data. These findings highlight the potential of the new constants of the realizable k–ω turbulence model to accurately predict the location of compressible turbulent separation points in hypersonic flows.
