A non-descript doe was presented with a history of full-term pregnancy and abdominal straining. Clinical examination revealed a narrowing of the birth canal and twist of vaginal wall towards the clockwise direction, and the case was diagnosed as right side post cervical uterine torsion. Schaffer’s method of detorsion was attempted and two dead female fetuses along with a live female fetus were relieved. The doe was treated with antibiotics and other supportive therapy for two days. The animal showed an uneventful recovery.

Schaffer’s Method of Detorsion and Delivery of Triplets in a Non-Descript Goat

This study was conducted to find out the total bacterial count and percentage of polymorphoneutrophils (PMN) cells in uterine lavage samples obtained at a weekly interval from postpartum dairy cows and also to find out the correlation between total bacterial count and PMN cells recovered from the uterus of postpartum dairy cows. Twenty-one postpartum dairy cows were divided into two groups viz. group A (without postpartum complication; n=16) and group B (retained placenta/postpartum metritis; n=5) calving. Cows belonging to the group B were administered antibiotics for 5 days after parturition. Samples for endometrial cytology and total bacterial count were collected aseptically by uterine lavage method at weekly intervals from day 21 to 42 postpartum. Data were statistically analysed by using one-way ANOVA, correlation using Statistical Analysis Software, SAS® 9.2 TS Level version 2M2 for Windows (USA). Based on endometrial cytology, the incidence of sub-clinical endometritis (SCE) recorded was 18.75% in group A and 100% in cows with postpartum complications (Group B). Total bacterial count in the group A animals differed significantly (P&lt;0.05) with the group-B animals. However, the difference between the total bacterial counts in group-A animals and diagnosed negative or positive for SCE did not differ significantly. A highly significant (P&lt;0.05 and P&lt;0.01) correlation was found between bacterial load and PMN cells obtained by uterine lavage technique.

Association Between Bacterial Count and Polymorphonuclear Cells in Uterine Lavage of Postpartum Subclinical Endometritic Cows

The research was carried out to study the pregnancy rate and sex-ratio of female calves born through sex-sorted semen in buffaloes. Murrah and graded Murrah buffaloes were inseminated with sex-sorted semen (n=44) and with conventional semen (n=20). Out of which 17 (38.63%) and 9 (45%) buffaloes were found pregnant in sex-sorted and conventional semen groups, respectively. Out of seventeen calves born with inseminations of sex-sorted semen, 15 (88.23%) were female calves while two (11.77%) calf born were male. Out of nine calves born with inseminations of conventional semen, 5 (55.55%) were females and four (44.45%) were male. Female calves born were 32.68 % more in sex-sorted semen compared to conventional semen in buffaloes so female sex-sorted semen should be utilized for production of more number of female calves in buffaloes.

Pregnancy Rate and Sex-ratio of Calves Born to Sex-sorted Semen in Murrah Buffaloes

The Color Doppler study on 6 pregnant ewes was conducted twice a week from Days 20 to 60 post-mating, then at weekly intervals till the end of experiment by the transrectal and transabdominal ultrasonography. In order to evaluate the waveforms and velocity blood flow patterns, peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EDV), pulsatility index (PI) and resistive index (RI), were measured. Data were nalysed by employing SPSS 21. The PSV and EDV increased from 38 to 139 days of gestation. The PI and RI of blood flow showed a non-significant decrease throughout gestation.

A case of fetal dystocia due to breech presentation in non-descript cattle was presented to the outpatient department of veterinary gynaecology and obstetrics, Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex-Referral Veterinary Polyclinic (TVCC-RVP), IVRI with anamnesis of the animal completed gestation and water bag ruptured normally without making any progress toward calving. Per-vaginal examination of the cow revealed fetal tail in birth canal and bilateral hip flexion (breech presentation).The dystocia relieved by obstetrical mutations. The cow was administrated with parenteral antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, multivitamin supplements, along with ecobolics.

Successful management of a case of dystocia due to breech presentation in non-descript cattle: A case study

The present study was undertaken to enrich X-sperms in Sahiwal bull semen by percoll density gradient method and to detect X and Y sperms in enriched semen by Raman spectroscopy. The experiment was performed at Semen Production Centre, CVASc, GBPUAT, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. Ejaculates were collected by AV method from Sahiwal bull. X-sperm enrichment was done by the Percoll density gradient method. Three types of gradients were prepared i.e. 7 layers (70-10%), 7 layers (80-20%) and 3 layers (30%, 50% and 70%). Semen (1ml or 3ml) was placed over the gradient in a conical centrifuge tube. Centrifugation was done at 750 g (22-24°C) for 15 min. The pellets thus obtained were diluted in PBS medium. Raman spectroscopy was performed in different groups viz. fresh semen (Control), 3 layers (70%, 50% and 30% GI), 7 layers (70-10% GII), and 7 layers (80-20% GIII). Raman peaks (DNA specific) were not much clear for PBS diluted semen samples though intensities were highest for 7 layers (70-10%) among all groups. Thus semen enriched by the percoll-density gradient method (7 layers i.e. 70-10%) can be used to increase female calf birth after A.I.

Detection and Quantification of X and Y sperms in Enriched Sahiwal Semen diluted in PBS using Raman Spectroscopy

The study was undertaken to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of Ozone, E. Coli LPS, Autologous plasma, Neem oil, and Lugol’s iodine in 100 infectious repeat breeder cows. The animals were divided in 5 different groups viz. Group-I, Group-II, Group-III, Group-IV and Group-V treated with Ozone @ 55µg/ml in 60ml distilled water, E. Coli LPS @100mcg in 30 ml sterile PBS, Autologous plasma @ 30 ml, Neem oil @ 10µg/ml in 30 ml distilled water, Lugol’s iodine 1:25 in 30ml normal saline, intrauterine route in 20 cases, respectively, Group-V of 20 animals was kept as control. AI was done in recovered cases. On follow up, recovery rate in treatment group were found as 75.00, 80.00, 65.00, 75.00 and 50.00 per cent in groups I to V, respectively. The conception rate was found as 68.42, 73.68, 55.00, 63.15 and 53.33 per cent in cows in Group-I to V, respectively. Pregnancy rate was observed that 65.00, 70.00, 50.00, 60.00 and 40.00 per cent cows from groups I to V, respectively. On conclusion, infectious repeat breeder cows treated with E. Coli LPS showed highest recovery rate, conception rate and pregnancy rate than the other treatment groups in this research study.

Efficacy of Ozone and Other Alternative Intrauterine Therapies in Infectious Repeat Breeder Cows.

A 11 years old German Shepherd bitch with the history of abdominal distension, vomiting, and purulent vaginal dis charge was presented to Veterinary Clinical Complex, DUVASU, Mathura. Haematological examination revealed increase in total erythrocyte count and total leucocyte count while decrease in platelet count. The condition was treated with ovariohysterectomy and histopathological examination revealed the condition as cystic endometrial hyperplasia with pyometra complex.

The effect of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) analogue on the ovulatory response of oestrual follicle during cold and hotter months of the year was studied. A total of 120 crossbred cows brought for insemination with oestrus signs during colder months (December 2022 –January 2023; n=52) and hotter months (April – May 2023; n=68) to the Gynaecology Unit of Veterinary Clinical Complex, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu were utilized for the study. Oestrus (Day 0) was confirmed by gynaeco-clinical and ultrasound examination and animals were inseminated with (n =33) or without (n = 87) GnRH (Buserelin acetate 10 mcg; im). The biometry of oestrual follicle (OF) and regressing corpus luteum (RCL) were measured ultrasonographically on Day 0 and the OF was observed every 24 hours until ovulation. The diameter of the OF on Day 0 was non-significantly (P &gt; 0.05) larger during hotter months (12.19 ± 0.21 mm) than colder months (11.58 ± 0.32 mm). There were no significant (P &gt; 0.05) differences in the diameter of RCL between the two periods (9.63 ± 0.21 and 9.56 ± 0.22 mm respectively). OFs were observed majorly in the right ovary during the hotter (60.76%) and colder (54.17%) months. Ovulations occurred on the mean days of 1.00 and 1.37 ± 0.18 in GnRH group during hotter (H-Gn) and colder months (C-Gn) respectively. The respective mean days in non-GnRH group were 1.14 ± 0.05 and 1.33 ± 0.08 during hotter (H-O) and colder months (C-O). In H-Gn group all the animals (100%) ovulated on Day 1, when compared to C-Gn animals (62.50%). On perusing the possible effect of RCL on ovulation, significantly increased percentages of ovulations were observed in OFs on the contralateral ovary to the ovary having the RCL in GnRH group and viceversa in non-GnRH group. It could be assumed that GnRH administration on the day of insemination may be beneficial during the hotter months of the year.
