Problems in current research on hydrological serial variation under non-stationary conditions and their impacts on flood control of reservoirs were analyzed. The test methods for hydrological serial variation under non-stationary conditions, the backward restore / forward restore and direct frequency method involved in frequency calculation,and the impacts of hydrological serial variation under non-stationary conditions on flood control of reservoirs were evaluated. It is pointed out that scientific evaluation of the impacts and corresponding measures should be highlighted based on further research of detection methods and frequency analysis.

非平稳条件下水文序列变化研究进展及其对水库防洪的影响

In order to forecast the date of ice-run,freeze-up and break-up,the forecasting system of ice conditions in Inner Mongolia section of the Yellow River has been designed and developed at every station based on the theory of multiple linear regression and artificial neural network theory. After selecting hydrological,meteorological and ice information the system has established a database,which can be called by applying ADO OLEDB technology. Additionally,the models of artificial neural network and multiple linear regression are used to realize the prediction,identification,and inspection. The overall results based on the data of 5 years from 2003-2004 to 2007-2008 employed in the prediction test,the qualified rate of the forecast results is respectively 80% and 67. 7%. These,respectively reaches the first and third class forecasting scheme,indicating that the system can be applied to forecast the date of ice-run,freeze-up and break-up in Inner Mongolia section of the Yellow River.

黄河内蒙古段冰情预报系统的开发与应用分析

Based on the principle of local scour at bridge piers,a series of hydraulic model tests with different flow and different shapes of the baffle of ring-wing aiming to determine their optimal shape were performed. By doing so,the maximum scour depth of piers,the three-dimensional time average velocity,the lengthways,and the vertical turbulence intensity were studied considering the development lengths of the baffle of a ring-wing pier at 45 mm and the distance between baffle and riverbed at approximately 1 /3 of the water depth. The results show that when compared with a scenario without baffles,the decreases of vertical flow velocities, the lengthways, and the vertical turbulence intensity are maximum. Additionally,the results show that the maximum scour depth could be reduced by 57. 6% when both the front width and the tail width of baffle are 45mm.

Concrete-faced rock-fill dams( CFRDs) compared with hard rocks the CFRDs with soft rocks have the particularity because of its engineering mechanics properties. According to the field and laboratory experiments of several projects,the particle gradation and the engineering mechanics properties of strength and deformation,the permeability and the creep for soft rock materials were analyzed. Several problems of construction CFRDs with soft rocks were pointed out such as: the dam design should be based on field compaction and permeability experimentation of soft rock materials;special attention should be given to the dam deformation and stabilization control; the drainage of dam body should be reinforced; special attention needs paying to the effect of long-term strength and deformation on dam safety; the appropriate time of dam pre-settlement should be left before constructing concrete face slab; and required controls should also be conducted to prevent the further weathering and water-destruction of soft rocks.

To study the effect by the Baoshen Railway Bridge to be built across the Yellow River on water level in thawing period,the physical model test has been applied according to similarities of ice flow gravity,ice flow resistance,ice flow volume,floating ice dynamics,using paraffin mixed with a little gypsum powder as model ice. The results show that the model ice with irregular shape can be used effectively to simulate blocking around the bridge. Additionally,under the conditions of 1200m3/s discharge and 80% ice flow density,backwater heights before the bridge to be built and the current bridge are 1. 36 m and 2. 21 m,respectively. Furthermore,the results also show that the bridge to be built has doubled main span compared to the current bridge,and therefore has stronger ice-passing ability.

Due to the occurrence of strong biogeochemical processes in the lateral hyporheic zone (LHZ), its unique and complex hydrodynamic characteristics play an important role in aquatic ecosystem and ecological environment. Through analysis and summarization of previous studies on the LHZ, the process and mechanism of hyporheic exchange in different directions are clarified, and the main factors (including topographic conditions, characteristics of sedimentary layers, hydrogeological conditions, river engineerings, and riparian vegetation conditions) that affect the lateral hyporheic exchange are analyzed in detail. Furthermore, the effects of lateral hyporheic exchange on solutes, grains, and ecological environments are discussed. Finally, some suggestions on this subject are given for future study.

In order to study the air concentration distribution in the flow area near the solid bottom and walls of a chute, the length of a protective segment in response to a combination of bottom and lateral aerators with different height-to-length ratios was investigated through model experiments, and the sensitivity of the length of the protective segment of the aeration facility to the height-to-length ratio of the aerator was analyzed using the single-parameter sensitivity analysis method. The results show that, when the conditions of other factors remain unchanged, the length of the protective segment of the bottom aerator increases with the discharge and the height-to-length ratio of the bottom aerator, and increases slightly with the height-to-length ratio of the lateral aerator. The length of the protective segment of the lateral aerator increases with the discharge and, with the increase of the height-to-length ratio of the lateral aerator, it increases quickly at first and then slowly. Although the sensitivity of the length of the protective segment of the lateral aerator to the height-to-length ratio of the lateral aerator is higher than the sensitivity of the length of the protective segment of the bottom aerator to the height-to-length ratio of the bottom length, the height-to-length ratio of the bottom aerator is more important to the whole length of the protective segment of the aeration facility. The length of the protective segment can be effectively increased only when a reasonable combination of aeration facilities is used.

Barrier systems are the most important structures for landfills in terms of groundwater pollution control. Analytical solutions to one-dimensional models of transport of heavy metals and organic contaminants in clay barriers and composite barriers were summarized in order to evaluate the service life of the barrier systems. The analytical solutions include the solution to a one-dimensional model of diffusion of contaminants in clay barriers under piecewise linear adsorption conditions, the solution to a one-dimensional model of transport of contaminants in composite barriers with geomembrane defects, and the solution to a coupled model of transport of pollutants in clay barriers under thermal effects. The reliability of high-gravity centrifuge tests of long-term transport of contaminants through barriers was assessed. Field investigation was carried out in a 17-year old landfill in Anhui Province. The results showed that the maximum migration depth of chloride ion reached 9 m, and the maximum migration depth of sodium ions and COD reached 3 to 4 m. The technologies of vertical barriers for control of groundwater and soil contamination were summarized and assessed. It was found that the application of soil-bentonite cutoff walls in China generates prosperity, and further research areas were discussed.
