Antibiotic residues in milk are of great public health concern since milk is widely consumed by infants, youngest and adults throughout the globe. The present work aimed to determine the presence and concentration of the residues of oxytetracycline and penicillin in raw milk samples. A total of 120 random raw milk samples were collected from different dairy shops, through summer and winter, dairy farms and farmers' houses (30 samples for each) in Assiut City, Egypt. A double-beam UV/visible spectrophotometer was used to detect and determine the residues. The incidences of oxytetracycline residues in summer dairy shops s, winter dairy shops s, and farm and farmers' houses milk were 21, 25, 29 and 28 %, respectively. The incidences of penicillin residues in the same samples were 28, 26, 25 and 27 %, respectively. The minimum and maximum for oxytetracycline were 3 and 38.65 µg/L, respectively with an average of 8.99 µg/L, while for penicillin were 5.9 and 250 µg/L, respectively, with an average of 76.5 µg/L. All detected oxytetracycline residues were below the 100 µg/L MRL standards, while all the penicillin residues were above the 4 µg/L MRL standards set by Codex. Of the total samples, 6 samples were free from residues, 18 samples had one antibiotic residue, and 96 samples had two antibiotic residues. A comparison was made between the permissible daily consumption and the calculated daily intake for each antibiotic residue. A Hazard Quotient was carried out for risk evaluation of the residues of penicillin and oxytetracycline in adults and children.

RISK ASSESSMENT OF OXYTETRACYCLINE AND PENICILLIN RESIDUES IN RAW MILK

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is the most important bacterial cause of subclinical mastitis (SCM), which is resistant to treatment. This study was conducted on cows with SCM to estimate hematobiochemical changes. It also aimed to isolate and identify multidrug-resistant S.aureus and its antibiotic susceptibility pattern to detect antibiotic-resistant genes. One hundred cattle from different farmholders were examined by the California mastitis test, which revealed that 32 (32%) SCM cases were positive. Blood and milk samples were collected from subclinical cases and 10 control healthy cows. This study showed a significant increase in AST, ALT, ALP, total leucocytic count, neutrophil, basophil percentage, and CRP, while a significant decrease in the erythrocytic count, total protein and albumin in subclinical cases, compared to the control group. The antibiograms of 32 S. aureus isolates showed high resistance toward penicillin (65.6%), ampicillin (56%), imipenem, and amoxicillin (44%) each. These were followed by tetracycline (40.6%), vancomycin (37.5%), amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, ciprofloxacin (34%) each, and chloramphenicol (31%). All the isolates resistant to the antibiotics encode blaZ, tetK, vanA, optrA, norA, mphC, and mecA genes. The haemato-biochemical parameters associated with SCM can be used as vital indicators of SCM. S. aureus is an important cause of SCM, which is highly resistant to antibiotic treatment. Antibiotic susceptibility tests improve the selection of appropriate antimicrobial drugs and avoid antibiotic resistance. Molecular surveillance is essential for the detection of S. aureus resistance genes.

Extensive research has been conducted on somatic cell counts and under-health, with special reference to the effects of the management system. Our applied studies were surveyed on the management and milk somatic cell count (SCC) in dairy cows by February 2024 (The data were recovered from the Web of Science (WOS)). Aspects of investigation include the general criteria of the management system and SCC. Data was handled by the VOSviewer software; the top ten results were considered. Among 874 publications, the author Barkema H.W. had the highest number of published papers (41, 4.69%), and publications in 2021 were at the front (63,7.2%). USA participated with the highest number of publications (183, 20.9%), and most publications were in English (840, 96.1%). Utrecht University was the most affiliated department (42, 4.8%). WOS categories indicated that dairy animal science had the highest publications (518, 59.26%). Research articles were the most abundant form of agricultural sciences (557, 63.72%). Dairy and Animal Sciences had the highest number of citation topics (799, 91.41%). Most of the articles were published in Elsevier (407,46.5%), and the Journal of Dairy Science was ranked at the top (302,34.55%). The USA Agency was the most funded source (24, 2.74%). The results of the existing study help to evaluate the effect of the management system and somatic cell count in dairy cows. These data can also provide epidemiological information regarding the risk factors of subclinical mastitis.
