Purpose This study aims to analyze the current state of entrepreneurship research in Latin America based on data from the Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Student’s Survey (GUESSS) project, to map its usage in publications in this context. Design/methodology/approach The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) protocol was employed for the systematic literature review. A total of 23 empirical studies published from 2015 to 2023 were included. Furthermore, it suggests directions for future research by utilizing the structuring of theories, contexts and methodologies (TCM) identified in the analyzed articles. Findings Factors related to individuals, the university environment and the family influence the outcomes; the theory of planned behavior (TPB) was the most commonly employed. Additionally, there is a gap in comparative approaches between countries. Practical implications This study identifies a gap in research using GUESSS data specific to Latin America, suggesting the need for further exploration of these data. By integrating the PRISMA protocol with the TCM framework, the study provides structured analyses and syntheses that reduce knowledge fragmentation. Social implications This study discusses the factors influencing entrepreneurship among Latin American university students, providing insights for policymakers, managers and educational institutions. Originality/value The current state of results in studies using GUESSS data from several Latin American countries is presented.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to understand whether the spectator’s emotional attachment to esports’ players is key for the sponsoring brand’s outcomes. A theoretical model based on the attachment, social influence and brand communities’ literature is proposed. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected through an online survey from a sample of 1,355 regular esports viewers. The proposed conceptual model was evaluated using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings The results showed that emotional attachment to esports players exerts a large effect on the viewer’s engagement with the community and his or her intention to view its content for longer. These two variables are key in explaining the viewer’s intention to perform positive behaviors toward the sponsoring brand, such as recommendation, purchase intentions and co-creation. Originality/value This study improves the understanding about the effects of the viewer’s emotional bond with esports players and the bond’s impact on the development of positive behaviors toward the sponsoring brand.

Purpose This study aims to determine how the communication of a family business identity in a recruitment call influences, directly and indirectly, the response of jobseekers, and whether this response varies according to the level of proactiveness and innovative of the applicants. Design/methodology/approach An experimental design using job advertisements on a LinkedIn recruitment call in Peru and Chile was implemented. The experiment simulates a job offer for a professional that could be filled by a business graduate student. The sample consisted of 171 surveys applied to university students in full-time higher education programs. Findings The results indicate that there is a positive indirect influence of family business signaling on the intention to pursue (through perceived prestige and career development opportunity). However, signaling family ownership of a company has a negative direct influence on jobseekers’ intentions to go to the recruitment call. When it comes to jobseekers with high and low levels of innovativeness and proactiveness, the results suggest that family business identity signaling is less effective among jobseekers with higher levels of proactiveness and innovativeness. Originality/value This article contributes to the theory of the family firm by advancing the understanding of the challenges that family businesses face when attracting talent. Our results enable family businesses to strategically adapt their hiring processes to enhance their appeal in the competitive labor market.

Effectiveness of signaling a firm family identity to jobseekers: proactiveness and innovativeness profile of the applicant

向求职者传递企业家族身份的有效性：求职者的前瞻性和创新性特征

Purpose This study examines the relationships between green management, perceived barriers to sustainability and innovation performance in Latin American SMEs and how formal and informal institutional factors influence these relationships. Design/methodology/approach The study used a dataset collected by Iberoamerican small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) Observatory in 2022 and included 15 country-specific indicators for Latin American countries published in international data sources to address the formal and informal institutional contexts. Accordingly, the final sample comprises 11,319 SME observations from 16 countries. The analysis involved three phases. First, an R-Type Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). Second, a cluster analysis. Third, a testing of the mediation theoretical model between the groups identified in the second study. To this purpose, the analysis included a multigroup analysis for covariance structure by three-stage procedures conducting structural equation modeling (SEM). Findings The results revealed that both formal institutions (such as government policies and regulations) and informal institutions (such as social norms and cultural values) have a positive impact of green management practices on innovative outcomes in SMEs. However, the magnitude of this impact varies depending on the level of country-specific performance of the context. Additionally, the perceived barriers to sustainability do not play an intermediary role in this relationship within both institutional contexts. However, the effect of perceived barriers to sustainability on SMEs' innovation performance is diminished in the informal institutional context. Originality/value These conclusions provide valuable insights for policymakers seeking to promote sustainable development in Latin America, highlighting the importance of institutional support in fostering SMEs' adoption of ecological practices.
