Using the Gordon-Litherland pairing, one can define invariants (signature, nullity, determinant) for ${\mathbb Z}/2$ null-homologous links in thickened surfaces. In this paper, we study the concordance properties of these invariants. For example, if $K \subset \Sigma \times I$ is ${\mathbb Z}/2$ null-homologous and slice, we show that its signatures vanish and its determinants are perfect squares. These statements are derived from a cobordism result for closed unoriented surfaces in certain 4-manifolds. 
The Brown invariants are defined for ${\mathbb Z}/2$ null-homologous links in thickened surfaces. They take values in ${\mathbb Z}/8 \cup \{\infty\}$ and depend on a choice of spanning surface. We present two equivalent methods to defining and computing them, and we prove a chromatic duality result relating the two. We study their concordance properties, and we show how to interpret them as Arf invariants for null-homologous links. The Brown invariants and knot signatures are shown to be invariant under concordance of spanning surfaces.

Taubes' gluing theorems establish the existence of ASD connections on closed, oriented 4-manifolds. We extend these gluing results to the mASD connections of Morgan-Mrowka-Ruberman on oriented 4-manifolds with cylindrical ends. As a corollary, we obtain an ASD-existence result in the presence of degenerate asymptotic flat connections.

In this paper, we study families of immersed curves $\gamma:(-1,1)\times[0,T)\rightarrow\mathbb{R}^2$ with free boundary supported on parallel lines $\{\eta_1, \eta_2\}:\mathbb{R}\rightarrow\mathbb{R}^2$ evolving by the curve diffusion flow and the curve straightening flow. The evolving curves are orthogonal to the boundary and satisfy a no-flux condition. We give estimates and monotonicity on the normalised oscillation of curvature, yielding global results for the flows.

We count the number of isotopy classes of closed, connected, orientable, essential surfaces embedded in the exterior B of the knot K13n586.The main result is that the count of surfaces by genus is equal to the Euler totent function. This is the first manifold for which we know the number of surfaces for any genus. The main argument is to show when normal surfaces in B are connected by counting their number of components. We implement tools from Agol, Hass and Thurston to convert the problem of counting components of surfaces into counting the number of orbits in a set of integers under a collection of bijections defined on its subsets.
