The expansion of literature on food production in developing countries has shifted the focus toward higher-quality and healthier food options. This study examined the implicit price of prawn quality attributes for consumers in Bangladesh, contributing to this transition. The study applied a semi-logarithmic hedonic price model based on interviews with 310 consumers from the Bangladesh fish retail markets. The results indicated that the implicit price increased by 5.3% when the prawn was categorized as large in size. The quality attributes like bright/greenish color, absence of roe, freshness, and clear eyes significantly offer a price premium whereas odor decreases the price. Further, results varied across consumer groups, with higher-income, employed, adult, and large-household consumers valuing more quality attributes than other subgroups. By quantifying the price impacts of specific quality attributes that met consumer expectations, this research enhanced the understanding of prawn pricing dynamics and established a foundation for market improvement strategies.

This study evaluated the effects of dietary synbiotics on enhancing digestive enzymes, reducing the overall bacterial count of Vibrio, and minimizing hepatopancreatic histological damage caused by V. parahaemolyticus in shrimp (Penaeus vanamei). The experiments involved administering different treatments, namely Bacillus NP5 (SBM), Pseudoalteromonas piscicida1Ub (SPM), and Bacillus NP5 and P. piscicida 1Ub (SBPM), incombination with the prebiotic mannan oligosaccharide (MOS). This study was conducted for 60 days, followed by a challenge test with Vibrio parahaemolyticus for 7 days. The results of the experiments showed that dietary synbiotic supplementation demonstrated better digestive enzyme activity and histology of the hepatopancreas compared to controls (p < .05). After the challenge test, it was found that the damage to the hepatopancreatic tissue of shrimps was less severe and the total vibrio count was lower in the synbiotic treatment, indicating a protective effect compared to the positive controls (p < .05). In conclusion, the use of dietary synbiotics had the potential to enhance digestive enzyme function and provide disease protection for Penaeus vannamei shrimp.

Final culture of Magallana gigas (~40 mm) was evaluated in lantern nets at densities of 60, 80, and 100 oysters per floor over 6 months in the Chone River estuary, Ecuador. At the end of the experiment, oysters cultured at 60 oysters per floor exhibited significantly higher survival rates (75%) and growth (111 mm height) compared to those at 80 and 100 oysters per floor (64% survival and 102 mm and 92 mm growth). Oysters at the lower density reached commercial size (80 mm) within 3 months, while at higher densities reached this size after 4 and 5 months. Economic analyses indicated high profitability (58 to 67%), with maximum values at the higher density, although with a notable decline in soft tissue. Therefore, densities of 60–80 oysters per lantern net floor are recommended for the optimal culture of M. gigas in the Chone River estuary.
