The search for effective treatment programs targeting parents of adolescents or young people who behave violently towards them is a highly relevant topic. The main goal of this study is to show some evidence of the short- and medium-term efficacy of the Early Intervention Program in Child-to-Parent Violence. Through a pre- post-followup design, the effect of the treatment on aggressive discipline is evaluated (body and psychological punishment) and depressive symptomatology of 33 parents, as well as level of child-to-parent violence and family conflict. After completing the program, the level of aggressive discipline and depressive symptoms, as well as child-to-parent violence and family conflict decreased, and these effects remained at six months. The results of this study improve the quality of the evidence of the evaluated program in clinical and social services contexts.

This study aims to provide answers to the following questions: Do you feel safe at Historic Centre of Porto (HCP)? Do you think that crime is increasing? What are the most and less frequent crimes? And the most feared crimes? What conditions promote criminal occurrences? What incivilities occur at HCP? What measures can be taken to increase security? What variables are related to the perception of insecurity? Through the application of the Diagnosis of Local Security Questionnaire, 554 participants that attended HCP were assessed (58.5% women, mean age = 43.82). One in five participants reported feelings of insecurity due to the presence of crime/danger. Robbery, theft, and drugs traffic were perceived as the most common crimes; participants were especially fearful about robbery and theft. Nationality, education, criminal variables, adequacy and satisfaction with policing, seek for formal support, and years living/studying/working at HCP were variables related to perception of (in)security.

Do you Feel Safe in the Urban Space? From Perceptions to Associated Variables

Intimate partner violence against women is a social problem affecting the rights of women in different countries. The present study aimed to compare the public attitudes toward intimate partner violence against women and their influencing factors in China and Spain. A sample of 506 participants completed questionnaires related to attitudes toward intimate partner violence against women. Chinese participants demonstrated less awareness of the existence and seriousness of the issue, but more proactive attitudes than Spanish participants did. We also found that culture, gender, and age affected these attitudes directly and indirectly through gender equality attitudes. Our findings suggest that promotion of legal reforms can improve social awareness and gender equality attitudes, which in turn changes public attitudes toward intimate partner violence against women, while traditional gender roles and patriarchal society lead to cultural legitimization of the violence, resulting in remained conservative attitudes.

Public Attitudes towards Intimate Partner Violence against Women and Influential Factors in China and Spain

This research analyses the existing relationship between feeling of familiar acceptance and dimensions of prosocial behaviour in underaged offenders under a detention regime. Attention must be also paid to determining the mediator and moderator role played by personality factors (Big Five model) in the relationship between family acceptance and prosocial behaviour. The sample consisted of 162 underaged offenders aged between 14 and 22 (M = 17.10, SD = 1.41), who are serving a judicial measure of detention in centres located in Madrid Region, Spain. The results show that although there is no direct relation between feeling of family acceptance and different dimensions of prosocial behaviour, indirect effects showed through personality factors of emotional stability and responsibility (conscience) can be found. This suggests that emotional stability plays a mediator role within the existing linkage between feeling of family acceptance and prosocial behaviour in its altruism and anonymous conduct dimensions; responsibility (conscience) also plays a moderator role. To sum up, this research reflects family significance in the positive development of responsibility and emotional stability characteristics in children, these personality attributes being the variables with direct effect on prosocial behaviour of underaged offenders sentenced to a judicial measure of detention.

The multiple scenarios of violence in Colombia expose minors to acts of abuse, violation of their fundamental rights, and forced recruitment by illegal armed groups. This article presents the results of a research regarding 35 teenagers who had been released from illegal armed groups in Colombia and are currently in process of social reintegration. The objective was to analyze the role of empathy and emotional self-efficacy in predicting moral disengagement in this population. The instruments used were the Moral Disengagement Mechanisms Questionnaire (MMDS), the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), and the Regulatory Emotional Self-efficacy Questionnaire (RESE). The empathic perspective and self-efficacy in the management of negative emotions were found to be protective factors of moral disengagement in the studied population. These potential factors become a central element for the psychosocial accompaniment of these adolescents.

Little is known about the sexual victimization of prepubescent children by adolescents in the Spanish context. A survey was designed in order to collect updated evidence on these abusive sexual behaviors from professionals who work in direct contact with minors, with four thematic sections: (1) professional identification, (2) case characteristics, (3) abusive sexual behavior criteria, and (4) intervention; 42&percnt; assisted such cases, most of them involving one male perpetraror (mean age = 15 years) and a female victim (mean age = 8 years), over a span of time and not involving physical violence. Unanimous criteria to label a sexual interaction between minors as abusive were not found among the professionals, nor was observed a broad knowledge of specialized resources for the referral of those cases that could be identified.

Highly conflictive divorces represent a serious problem that affects the health of the children involved. Thus, in addition to the consequences derived from a tense and difficult judicial procedure, children experience the negative effects of inappropriate parental behavior that can have an impact on their health and development. To date no work has formally addressed the identification of parental behaviors that may be considered victimizing to children. In the present study, we explore the specific indicators that could define that a child is suffering victimization due to some undesirable behavior or attitude displayed by his or her parents in the specific context of high-conflict divorce. The sample consisted of an interprofessional group of experts (psychologists, judges, lawyers, prosecutors) at the national level (n = 15). The results showed a high consensus among professionals on the majority of inappropriate parental behaviors. This study is the first to provide a list of victimizing behaviors of children in the context of high-conflict divorce that may guide future interventions and prevention policies to mitigate the effects they experience during this process.

Indicators of Child Victimization in High-conflict Divorce: Interprofessional Consensus Based on a Delphi Panel

The aim of the present study was to assess the impact of past traumatic war experiences on preadolescents in the Gaza Strip, which could be useful for psychological intervention with current and future child victims. Participants were 521 preadolescents from United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) schools, aged 11 and 13 years old. Sections I to IV from Iraqi Version-Arabic of Harvard Trauma Questionnaire was used to assess trauma experiences and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The results show that the preadolescents in the Gaza Strip witnessed the destruction of their homes and the murder of family members and friends. A quarter of the individuals assessed either suffered torture or witnessed others undergoing it, including sexual assaults. Almost half of them experienced a lack of food and clean water. The traumatic and torture experiences seriously affected preadolescents’ mental health as 26.29&percnt; met criteria for the diagnosis of PTSD. The data analysis revealed two PTSD modalities, with the severity of impact depending on whether social implications were involved. Further research is required to check whether these two modalities fit to PTSD and complex PTSD. Understanding the effects of past wars on preadolescents in Gaza and distinguishing between different PTSD types could enhance comprehension of the impacts of current attacks on child victims. It can also aid in determining the type of intervention needed to minimize the impact on the mental health of Palestinian youth, enhancing their resilience through psychological and social support.

War, Torture and Trauma in Preadolescents from Gaza Strip. Two Different Modalities of PTSD

战争、酷刑与加沙地带前青春期儿童的创伤：两种不同的 PTSD 模式

Violence against women in intimate partner relationships (IPVAW) and intimate partner homicide against women (IPHAW) are events of great relevance, and first-order in the media. Through a comprehensive review of 171 cases of IPHAW and 201 cases of IPVAW, the aim of this study is to explore those characteristics that differentiate and resemble the non-lethal aggressors' group from the femicides' group. Age differences were found in variables related to criminal career, drug use, and others, such as being in a separation process or suicidal behaviour related variables. Our results indicate that, although the perpetrators of these criminal typologies share common characteristics, there are also many others that differentiate them. This shows the need for individualized treatments for the different perpetrators and offers the possibility of refining tools for predicting the risk of intimate partner femicide.

The evaluation of the needs of convicts is a critical issue for the design of the intervention. Nonetheless, in the information reported by convicts in penitentiary evaluation, simulation (malingering) and dissimulation (denial of symptoms, social desirability, and both) must be suspected. Thus, a field study with the aim of estimating the prevalence rate of the distortions and its effects in the needs reported by convicts was designed. A total of 624 men convicted for intimate partner violence reported their needs in the MMPI-2 in the reception phase of a penitentiary intervention program. Results: tion consisting in denial of symptoms, .112 [.087, .137], social desirability, .223 [.190, .256], and the combination of both two, .120 [.095, .145]. The effects in denial of symptoms emerged in the information of less depressive (i.e., lack of interest in activities, excessive sensitivity, lack of sociability), paranoid (i.e., interpersonal sensitivity and perceptiveness), psychasthenic (i.e., general subjective distress and negative affect), schizoid (i.e., alienation, chaotic interpersonal relations, and disruptive cognitive processes), and hypomanic (i.e., hyperactivity, irritability, and sensation seeking) symptoms. Likewise, social desirability dissimulators detailed significantly less depressive, psychopathic (i.e., less general social maladjustment), paranoid, psychasthenic, schizoid, and hypomanic symptoms. Similarly, the whole dissimulators (combining denial of symptoms and social desirability responses) informed less depressive, psychopathic, paranoid, psychasthenic, schizoid, and hypomanic symptoms, and fewer problems of social introversion. Conversely, they related significantly more symptoms of hysteria (i.e., physical complaints). Distortions introduced by convicts in self-reports must be controlled to design effective correctional interventions.
