This paper offers a literature review on different structures and control strategies of the microgrid. The implementation of a microgrid system provides significant advantages for both electric utility and end-users. Microgrid control is one of the most sophisticated parts of such implementations that must be taken into account before moving to the next steps. The different control objectives and structures of the main grid and microgrid lead to various control methods proposed for microgrids. The hierarchical structure is the most accepted method for microgrid control that has three levels including primary, secondary, and tertiary. The focus of this study will be on the main modes of typical microgrids, types of microgrid and how to control them. The investigation of this paper will give an overview to the readers, and in our next paper, we will focus more deeply on the subject, with a specific concentration on the concept of secondary control and corresponding trending methods.

Investigation of Microgrid Hierarchical Control and Structure

In this paper the objective is to solve an optimal power flow problem (OPF) as load varies.It is indeed necessary to know the present operating status of the system for secure operation.A novel Improved Wind driven optimization (IWDO) algorithm is proposed to solve highly nonlinear OPF problem.The standard IEEE-14 bus system is considered for the study.The load variation is considered from base case to 150% of base case.With these load perturbations the voltage deviations and fuel cost variations are observed.From the obtained results it can be observed that, as the load varies from minimum level to maximum the total fuel cost goes on reduces for OPF compared to load flow.At the same time the total voltage drop also high for lower loading levels and reduces as load goes on increases compared to OPF.

A Novel Approach to Solve Optimal Power Flow Problem

Non-ferrous metal waste particles from production falls, process industry scrap, and collected end-of-life products are used to make secondary (refined) metal, particles identification is paramount to facilitate their recycling.Eddy current testing is a widely used technique in non-destructive testing and evaluation of materials.The aim of the present study is the characterization optimization of particle waste by the eddy current method.Finite element 3D configurations are used.The particles thickness depends on the grinding machines.The air gap (lift off) between the control sensor and the waste can be adjusted.We performed a series of simulations by varying the value of the particle thickness, and the value of the lift off.The particle thickness has a significant effect on the sensor response.Also, the sensitivity of the sensor response increases with the decrease of the lift off value.Characterization of material particles depending on particle thickness and setting the value of lift off is realized by constructing an inverse model.

Study of Eddy Current Characterization in Waste Particles

Voltage stability is the most vital phenomena in power systems which may be mainly disturbed by a mismatch in the reactive power generation and load.Not only reactive power imbalance sometimes due to internal faults of the equipments and short circuit faults there may be voltage collapse at the buses.Voltage stability can be enhanced using shunt devices such as Static VAR Compensator (SVC).It can generate or absorb reactive power in a controlled manner such that it can able to enhance Voltage Stability.Voltage Stability Index method is used to determine Voltage sensitivity at each bus and the bus having highest Voltage stability index value can be considered as weak bus which is the optimal location of facts controller.In this paper investigation is made to observe how susceptance model and firing angle model of SVC is used to enhance the voltage at each bus under chaotic load case is observed.IEEE 5-bus and 30-bus systems are considered as test systems and simulations are carried out in Matlab environment.

Modelling and Optimal Siting of Static VAR Compensator to Enhance Voltage Stability of Power System with Uncertain Load

Today, direct torque control (DTC) is one of the most actively researched control techniques due to its exceptional dynamic response and less dependence on motor parameters.However, the DTC technique has a disadvantage that the stator resistance variation due to inter-turn short circuit (ITSC) fault causes an estimation error of the stator flux, this leads to a decline in the performance of DTC technique.To solve this problem, this paper proposes a DTC technique of open end-winding induction motor (OEW-IM) under ITSC fault with stator resistance compensator based on model reference adaptive system (MRAS).The main objective of the proposed estimation scheme is to improve the DTC performance under fault condition, where the stator resistance value is updated during operation to compensate the fault effects.The control system performance is verified in terms of the healthy and faulty performances through the simulation.Based on the obtained simulation results, it can be said that the effectiveness of the proposed control system is clearly validated.
