Acta Pharmaceutica Sciencia (Acta Pharm. Sci.), formerly known as Bulletin of Pharmacy and Acta Pharmaceutica Turcica is a peer-reviewed scientific journal publishing current research and reviews covering all fields of pharmaceutical sciences since 1953. A series of 3-[(4-aryl-2-thiazolyl)hydrazone]-1H-indol-2,3-dione derivatives (2af) were designed and synthesized using isatin as starting material.The obtained thiazole compounds were screened to investigate their antituberculosis activity against Mycobacterum tuberculosis H37RV (ATCC 27294).Among them, two compounds 2c and 2d were displayed antitubercular potential two-fold greater than standard drugs.

Since Turkey is in an earthquake zone, historically there has been a lot of demolition in various cities, including Istanbul which contains many historical places.Residents of Istanbul are subject to calamity regulations and plans that fall under these regulations.Older buildings, and those in a state of disrepair which are not in compliance with regulations, are demolished to make the city safer.In this context, urban transformations are based in Istanbul.In many cases Istanbul's demolitions reveal carcinogenic asbestos fibers, which are known to have carcinogenic effects.Building employees are directly exposed to asbestos dust, and the local community is indirectly exposed.Protecting against the negative health affects of asbestos on building employees who are working in buildings unknown to have asbestos is under discussion.The aim of this study is to create awareness of asbestos and to protect against its negative affects on building employees working in urban transformations areas.Surveys show that the employes are uninformed about asbestos and its effects.The projects must continue to create awareness.

The objective was to characterize Cucumis sativus mucilage (CSM) and evaluate its binding potentials in metronidazole tablet formulation.Characterization was done using proximate, elemental, material and rheological properties including FTIR.Tablets were produced by wet granulation with CSM, corn starch or acacia as binder (1-4% w / w ) and evaluated using mechanical and release properties.Generally, the properties of CSM showed that it can be used for oral formulations and it has significantly higher swelling index.The mechanical properties of metronidazole tablets as described by crushing strength-friability ratio ranked acacia > corn starch > CSM.An increase in the concentration of CSM produced faster disintegration for all tablets as opposed to corn starch and acacia which led to slower disintegration.The dissolution profiles of the tablets from CSM (4% w / w ) showed highest similarity (f2=61.60) to those of acacia at 2% w / w .CSM has excipient potentials that can be further developed for tablet production.

Objectives: Study investigated methanolic extract of rind of Citrullus lanatus for possible benefit in ameliorating indomethacin induced gastric ulceration.Methodology: Adult male Wistar rats were assigned 5 groups of 6 rats each.Group 1 received extract vehicle; Groups 2, 3 and 4 received 100mg/kg, 200mg/ kg and 500mg/kg bw of extract; Group 5 received 200mg/kg bw of cimetidine.Treatment was orally for 21days.Gastric ulcer was subsequently induced by oral indomethacin.Gastric juice volume, acid concentration, ulcer index, percentage ulcer inhibition was determined.Photomicrograph sections of the gastric mucosa of the various groups were obtained.Results: Compared to cimetidine, extract protected gastric mucosa against indomethacin induced gastric ulceration with significant reduction in gastric juice volume, acid concentration and ulcer index and increase in percent ulcer inhibition in a dose dependent manner (p<0.05);consistent with gastric histological changes. Conclusion:Extract of the rind of Citrullus lanatus exerts potential gastro-protective effects against indomethacin induced gastric ulceration in male Wistar rats.

Phenolic composition and quantitative evaluation of herbal part and root extracts for Reynoutria sachalinensis studied by HPLC method.Using the same method, we also established the antioxidant activity of R. sachalinensis raw materials.Six phenolic compounds were idenified for herbal part of R. sachalinensis as, gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, trans-cinnamic acid, rutin, hyperoside and isoquercitrin at total amount of 885.37±21.25 mg/kg.Neochlorogenic acid and rutin were found as main compounds for herbal part of R. sachalinensis, and gallic acid and 6,7-dihydroisoflavone were determined for root of R. sachalinensis.In R. sachalinensis roots we found gallic acid and 6,7-dihydroisoflavone.The HPLC study of antioxidant activity showed almost identical antioxidant potential of bioactive substances (BASs) in R. sachalinensis herbal parts and roots that is 3.85±0.09and 3.59±0.09mg/g in Trolox equivalent respectively.The obtained data proved the feasibility of new antioxidant drugs development on the basis of R. sachalinensis raw materials.

虎杖原料中酚类化合物及其抗氧化活性的研究

Dyslipidemia is the leading cause of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity.Reduction of lipids, particularly low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), with statins, significantly decreases the risk of cardiovascular events.Among different statins, pitavastatin, exhibits a peculiar pharmacokinetic and pharmacological profile.Indeed, differently from other statins, pitavastatin: a) is not metabolized by hepatic cytochrome CYP3A4 isoenzyme, therefore has a very low drug-drug interaction; b) has a similar or greater effect on LDL-C, c) is not associated with glucose metabolism impairment, and the risk of new onset diabetes is very low, d) increases high density lipoproteins (HDL) levels and, particularly, improves cholesterol efflux capacity of HDL, d) decreases cardiovascular outcome in primary and secondary prevention.

Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) enzyme, type 1 non-transmembrane protein tyrosine phosphatase, is extensively expressed in different organs in the body and is linked to different signal transduction pathways including insulin signaling pathway.PTP1B inhibition exhibits significant effects on glucose homeostasis and glucose balance in blood and tissue.Several types of synthetic/natural compounds have been tested.Among these compounds, flavonoids showed high potency as PT-P1B inhibitors.Different studies revealed that flavonoids could be promising PTP1B inhibitors with antidiabetic and weight loss effects.In recent years, the discovery of new flavonoids with PTP1B inhibition activity has been facilitated by the application of molecular modeling and computational methods.This review highlights the research efforts conducted in the discovery of flavonoids as PTP1B inhibitors and the role of computer-aided drug design techniques utilized in the discovery process.

Antibiotic resistance represents a serious threat worldwide.The onset and spread of resistance is mostly related to irrational and increased use of antibiotics.The aim of this study was to evaluate antibiotic prescribing patterns and identify areas for quality improvement in the hospital sector in Albania.A Point Prevalence Survey study was conducted, at a University Hospital Centre in Tirana, Albania.On the day of the survey, 65.7% of the inpatients were on antibiotic treatment, mostly for medical prophylaxis (67.1%).The higher prevalence was found in Intensive Care Units (81.0%).The most commonly used antibiotics were the cephalosporins (53.1%) followed by metronidazole (16.2%) and fluoroquinolones (14.7%).High rates of antibiotic use were found in all wards, while some indicators related to prescribing patterns were critical.A close and continuous surveillance of the antibiotic use, along with measures at national level could contribute in improving a proper use of antibiotics.
