Problem statement: Kicking is one of the most important skills in indoor soccer. Kicking accuracy is an important component of this skill. The instep kick is often used when tacking a penalty kicks, as a combination of increased ball speed and kick accuracy can be maintained. The purpose of this research was to compare selected kinematic parameters of the kicking foot during the performance of successful and unsuccessful penalty kick from a 6 m distance. Approach: Fourteen right footed elite players (seven males and seven females) with an average age of 23±1.7 and 23±2.4 years, height of 182.2±4.73 and 160.7±4.84 cm, weight of 72.4±4.04 and 53.7±4.33 Kg respectively, were selected. For sampling, a kinemetrix 3D motion analyzer with 3 cameras (50 Hz), was used. In the center of the indoor soccer gate a target with a 1 meter radius was marked. The kinematic parameters of successful and unsuccessful kicks were compared by using independent t-test. The level of significance was set to α = 0.05. Results: The results of analysis showed that the values of maximum linear velocity of ankle, knee, the mean value of velocity prior to the kick, angle of the ankle and mean value of angular velocity of the shank and thigh in women before the kick and, the linear velocity of toe, ankle, angular velocity of shank, thigh at the time of impact, the maximum and mean value of velocity in follow through in men before the kick was significantly higher in the unsuccessful kicks than the successful ones. Conclusion: Accurate kicks have lower linear as well as angular velocity compared to the unsuccessful kicks. However, these differences are more pronounced before the kick in women at the time of impact and after the kick in men.

The study evaluated the cognitive development levels of college students and their achievement in Geometry using Piaget’s Test of Logical Operations and Van Hiele’s Levels of Thinking. The researcher employed quantitative approach to research. There were 105 respondents in which 71 of them fit the Van Hiele modified case/criterion (M3) 3 of 5 correct answers. Findings revealed that most of the college students were identified as concrete operational thinkers using Piaget’s theory of concrete and formal operations who possessed the levels of classification, seriation and transitivity. Using Van Hiele’s levels of thinking, most of them were classified as holistic thinkers. Students whose ages ranging from 20 years old and up were performing better in Geometry as compared to the other age brackets. It also revealed that male students were performing better than female students. In the cognitive development levels using Piaget’s theory on concrete and formal operations, there is a significant difference when grouped according to age and year levels but found a non-significant difference when grouped according to sex. Significant positive relationships revealed among Van Hiele’s levels of thinking, Piaget’s theory of concrete and formal operations and Geometry achievement test. Van Hiele’s levels of deductive and rigorous thinking and Piaget’s levels of transitivity, proportionality and correlation are significant predictors in the achievement of students in Geometry. This implies further that to be successful in learning Geometry and mathematics in general, a college student must reach Van Hiele’ level 3 – deductive thinking and Piaget’s level 3 – transitivity.

Entomopathogenic Fungi (EPF) biopesticides are more environmentally friendly and are an alternative to toxic synthetic chemicals. Due to EPF's pathogenic nature to various arthropod pests, it is thus considered a primary candidate for an integrated biological approach due to its numerous invaluable effects. However, an urgent need is to develop an environmentally safer, more sustainable, and practical approach to managing insect pests. Incorporating fungal biopesticide in an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach offers an opportunity to reduce the unselective and continuous use of synthetic chemicals to manage insect pests. There are limited reviews on biopesticides in developing countries concerning research questions. The review aimed to provide an understanding of the use of entomopathogenic fungal biopesticides to manage insect pests, majorly aphids in horticultural crops such as French beans." The study uses an inclusive search approach, identifying 1046 articles and reports from 2010-2022 from relevant sources like Web of Science, dimension, Google Scholar, and Google. Out of these, 85 original papers and grey literature were selected and were related to fungal biopesticide use in Kenya and aimed at improving comprehensive knowledge on the benefits and use of EPF biopesticide against insect pests, their action, and how they kill the target pest. The current review presents information on the use of EPF, Metarhizium anisopliae, and Beauveria bassiana as biopesticides that are dominantly used in Kenya and attributed to their pathogenicity, registry, accessibility, and secondary metabolites produced, thus, increased demand with more than 132,980 hectares in 2019 in Kenya under biopesticides. However, their use in biocontrol processes is still underestimated due to a lack of knowledge. Thus, this study review recommends integrating EPF with other measures for enhanced fungal biopesticide formulation, pathogenicity, and increased shelf-life.

Use of Entomopathogenic Fungi as Biopesticides to Manage Insect Pest: A Review

The prediction model developed in this article is based on the use of meteorological variables to estimate the consumption of electrical energy at the substations of the Electric Community of Benin. The objective is to predict this consumption in order to adapt production to it. The posts (Lomé Aflao, Légbasito, and Lomé port) are the targets that were used in the study. The input variables are Relative Humidity (H), Direct Normal Irradiance (I), Precipitation (P), Temperature (T), and wind speed (V). The data collection period extends from 2019 to 2021. Multiple linear regression is used as the algorithm. Mean Absolute Error (MAE), root Mean Square Error (MSE), root mean square error (RMSE), and linear correlation coefficient (R2) were used to evaluate the performance of each model. A statistical characterization of each variable is carried out. It shows a good distribution of temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed values. This is not the case for direct normal irradiance, precipitation, and diffuse radiation. These latter at times have zero and extreme values at the same time. Furthermore, the modeling results show that the worst model is IPV giving MAE = 16.066; MSE = 385.847; RMSE = 19.643, and R2 =21.021%, and is not good for consumption forecasting. On the other hand, the best model is obtained by the HIPTV configuration thus giving MAE = 13.214; MSE = 282.199; RMSE = 16.798, and R2 = 77.284% showing that the parameters considered are necessary for its prediction. The correlation coefficient R2 exceeds 50%, the results of this study show that from meteorological data, it is possible to predict the power to be consumed in the area considered. However, as it is not very close to 1, the exploration of other algorithms is necessary to resume this study.

Multiple Linear Regression to Predict Electrical Energy Consumption Based on Meteorological Data: Application to Some Sites Supplied by the CEB in Togo
