Mindfulness practice has been demonstrated to improve sleep quality but it is unknown whether these effects relate to changes in dysfunctional sleep beliefs.

The Comparative Impact of Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery (MBCR) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) on Sleep and Mindfulness in Cancer Patients.

In the present study, we analyzed the effects of comprehensive yogalates rehabilitation training on side effects caused by postoperative adjuvant treatment and postoperative physical and mental health in breast cancer patients who had undergone radical mastectomy.The purpose of this investigation was to test the hypothesis that 12 weeks of yogalates training would reduce the peripheral diameter of the upper arm, improve flexibility and posture, and improve sleep quality compared with a non-treated control group. 36 women with breast cancer who had undergone radical mastectomy in Shanghai were selected and randomly divided into the experimental group (n=20) and the control group (n=16). The patients in the experimental group underwent yogalates comprehensive rehabilitation training, while the control group did not participate in yogalates course. Anthropometric measurements and the "Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI)" questionnaire were administered to both the experimental and control groups before and after the training sessions. The experimental group corrected the hunchback posture through yogalates training. Spine extension increased their height and decreased their BMI. The range of motion of upper arm joints in extension, bending and abduction increased. The peripheral diameter of the upper arm decreased, the grip strength increased, and the sleep quality gradually improved. (1)Prolonging the period of yogalates training stabilized and improve the physical and mental health of patients. (2)In yogalates course, providing proper guidance to patients for diaphragmatic breathing and incorporating yoga relaxation techniques can effectively enhance the sleep quality of patients.(3)Exercise regimens must be designed taking into account individual differences.

The effect of lavender and rosemary aromatherapy application on cognitive functions, anxiety, and sleep quality in the elderly with diabetes

Constipation, which is commonly seen in the elderly and negatively affects an individual's physical and psychological well-being, is a treatable health problem. This study was conducted as a randomized controlled experimental study to investigate the effect of abdominal massage applied with lavender and ginger oil on constipation for elderly individuals. The study examined a total of 40 elderly individuals who lived in a nursing home and suffered from constipation. Elderly individuals in the intervention group underwent 15 min of aromatherapy massage for 5 weekdays per week for 4 weeks. No intervention was conducted for individuals in the control group. While the Bristol Stool Chart and the Constipation Severity Scale scores were similar in the intervention and control groups of elderly individuals at the first follow-up (p > 0.05), in the second and fourth week after the application, scores in the Bristol Stool Chart increased significantly and scores in the Constipation Severity Scale decreased significantly in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). It was determined that aromatherapy massage applied to elderly individuals experiencing constipation softened stool consistency, decreased constipation severity, and reduced symptoms associated with constipation.

“Effects of abdominal massage applied with ginger and lavender oil for elderly with constipation: A randomized controlled trial”

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have changed the landscape of advanced cancer treatment. However, immune checkpoint inhibitors can trigger effector T cells against self-antigens as well as tumor antigens, resulting in immune-related toxicities in normal organs, referred to as immune-related adverse events (irAEs).A 56-year-old man with undifferentiated gastric carcinoma received sintilimab plus paclitaxel and tegafur therapy. After five cycles of treatment, the patient was referred to the hospital for sudden onset urinary frequency, micturition pain, and urinary incontinence. Cystoscopy revealed the entire bladder mucosa was red and edematous but there was no evidence of tumor. Oral administration of Chai-Ling-Tang (Sairei-To) alleviated lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Histological analysis revealed numerous infiltrates of CD3-positive and CD8-positive cells into the urothelium but no atypia, indicating a diagnosis of immune-related cystitis. Interestingly, the urothelial epithelium infiltrated by lymphocytes and subepithelial inflammatory cells strongly expressed cell boundary PD-L1. The dose of Chai-Ling-Tang was maintained and stopped 2 months later without recurrence of LUTS. Since recovering from cystitis, the patient remains alive with no disease progression.This report shows that Chai-Ling-Tang is safe and effective for treating immune-related cystitis. The detailed mechanism of action requires further investigation.
