Notre article propose d’approcher, du point de vue semiotique, l’image de la femme omnipresente dans la plupart des domaines des sciences humaines et sociales. Nous l’aborderons a travers la bande dessinee d’Herge, un corpus original dans cette discipline. A travers cette etude, nous nous interrogeons sur la representation de la femme, non pas en tant que simple personnage de bande dessinee, mais en tant que « Autre » dans les Aventures de Tintin. En nous appuyant sur la theorie greimacienne, d’une part, et les travaux de Paul Ricœur d’autre part, nos interrogations principales sont les suivantes : comment le personnage feminin, est-il represente dans la BD d’Herge ? La representation negative du personnage feminin dans l’album Tintin et les Picaros n’est-elle pas nee d’une « representation » de la femme chez Herge ? Autrement dit, n’est-il pas question, dans l’album en etude de l’« alterite » vis- a- vis de la femme ?

This article examines the gender politics within British trade unions and their role in advancing gender equality at the workplace in the nineteenth and twentieth century Britain where unions’ feminization process encountered social and ideological impediments. The study explores the ostracism experienced by women within a totally male dominated labour movement with a focus on their demands for inclusion, and their consciousness in setting up their own unions to challenge the patriarchy ideology which describes the structuring of society on the basis of family units where man is the ‘breadwinner’. Despite overtly sexist opinions and behaviours, women have demonstrated before and during world events their economic awareness as an increasing industrial workforce; and their political consciousness as belonging to a class whose interests were unrepresented within mainstream unionism ; and ignored by a hegemonic capitalist system.

Gender Equality within the British Trade Unions: The Incomplete Revolution

The concept of “Muslim woman” connotes submissiveness or backwardness. Contemporary literary works portray Muslim women in a new light not commonly seen in the Western media. Muslim women writers have engaged in a mission to respond to the Western stereotype by illustrating the reality about Muslim women conditions and the true Islam. In Does My Head Look Big in This? (2005) and Minaret (2005), Randa Abdel-Fatteh and Leila Aboulila respectively defy not only the pressure that resulted from prejudice and discrimination, but also which negatively impacted their psychological well-being. This article attempts to shed light on how Muslim women articulate their feminism and the positive impact of spirituality on their mental health.

Maintaining effective classroom management is regarded as the primary stage that paves the way for effective teaching. In this respect, the effectiveness of teaching and learning relies on many factors such as the classroom environment, classroom conditions and most importantly styles of learning. In Algeria, most secondary school English Foreign Language teachers claim that their pupils encounter real difficulties in the writing skill. The present research attempts to match between managing the classroom and teaching writing skill. The present work approaches a systematic analysis based on theory and practice arranged into three steps. This study incorporated two data tools namely a questionnaire and an interview. As a result, the findings of the study revealed a teacher-dominated environment where a large gap existed between teachers and students in their understanding of what is suitable for them in the EFL classroom. In fact, teachers need to be aware of the views of the students in terms of what actually motivates, suits them instead of what teachers think is motivating. By narrowing this gap teachers can have a great impact on their students’ academic success.
