Aim of the study (1) present equations that can predict the stream-order-law ratios on the basis of length, slope of the stream and area of the catchment; (2) apply predicted stream-order-law ratios to estimate direct runoff of catchments by GIUH method. Material and methods In order to use GIUH model, the stream network’s characteristics, such as bifurcation ratio (RB), stream-length ratio (RL), stream-area ratio (RA), stream-slope ratio (RS) and overland slope ratio (RSO) must be evaluated. For this purpose, accurate GIS based information of topography and hydrography is often necessary, but in many catchments such information could lack. In this study, equations have been presented that are related to geometrical information of the catchment, such as area, slope and length of the main river, which are available. The presented equations have been developed based on non-linear regressions of data from nine catchments. Results and conclusions To validate the proposed method, the data of three other catchments were used. Based on the presented equations, the runoff of Heng-Chi (Taiwan) and Kasilian (Iran) catchments was calculated by GIUH method. Based on the results, the peak runoff error calculated by GIUH model based on regression equations was 10% higher than model calculations based on data obtained from GIS. The average error of the regression equations in estimating the coefficients of RB, RL, RA, and RS in the three case study catchments are 4.7%, 23.5%, 7.1%, 41.3% and 22.9%, respectively. The relative sensitivity coefficient of RB, RL, RA, and RS ratios on peak flow was observed as 0.56, 0.01, 0.92, 0.042, and 1.33 respectively.

A GIS-Independent method for Stream-Order-Law Ratios Prediction in Catchments for Runoff Estimation

Aim of the study The characteristics of the analyzed carbonate rocks in terms of their geological setting, lithological features, and quality parameters are presented. Material and methods Jurassic limestones from the Działoszyn region were subjected to characterization for lithological features and quality parameters in relation to the geological conditions of their deposits. The study also included the physicochemical characteristics of carbonate-clay flour in terms of the possibility of using it in the fertilizer industry. The samples that have been subject of analyses have been collected from Raciszyn and Raciszyn II deposits that currently have been exploited. Results and conclusions The deposits are characterized by high content of CaCO3 (on average, approx. 93%). Among other minerals, important in terms of the possibility of being used as fertilizers, there are: MgO (0.55–1.34%), followed by Fe2O3 (approx. 0.4%), and Al2O3 (0.07-2.49%). In contrast, in the waste raw material, i.e. carbonate-clay flour, similarly to the limestones from the Raciszyn deposits, there is (apart from carbonates) also magnesium, potassium and sulfur as well as small amounts of phosphorus and sodium, which is indicative of the possibility of using this material as a deacidifying agent. The content of microelements (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Co, Mo) in carbonate-clay flour indicates that this material constitutes a potential source of these nutrients for plant mineral nutrition. The content of heavy metals and metalloid (Cd, Pb, Hg, Ni, Cr, etc) is very low and lower than the acceptable content in liming agents and mineral fertilizers.

Possibilities of utilization of Jurassic limestones and waste raw materials generated during their processing – a case study from central Poland

利用侏罗纪石灰岩及其加工过程中产生的废料的可能性——来自波兰中部的案例研究

W artykule autorzy badają wpływ budownictwa na środowisko i konsekwencje rozwoju branży budowlanej. W artykule rozważono i przeanalizowano globalne problemy ludzkości (globalne ocieplenie, brak zasobów naturalnych, zanieczyszczenie środowiska, sytuacja demograficzna) jako siły napędowe rozwoju i wdrażania zielonego budownictwa na świecie. Udowodniono również, że problemy te są również istotne dla Ukrainy, ale z pewnymi niuansami. Ponadto wojna rosyjsko-ukraińska stała się prawdziwym wyzwaniem dla Ukrainy i spowodowała szereg dodatkowych problemów: negatywny wpływ na środowisko, straty społeczno-gospodarcze, uszkodzenia i zniszczenia budynków, tysiące ofiar cywilnych i wojskowych, największy napływ uchodźców w Europie od czasów II wojny światowej itp. Biorąc pod uwagę, że powojenna odbudowa i rozwój Ukrainy muszą być ekologiczne, aby zapewnić zrównoważony rozwój, zasady zielonego budownictwa stają się niezbędne w transformacji branży budowlanej. Uzasadniono rolę zielonego budownictwa w harmonizacji relacji w systemie „człowiek — środowisko — budynek”. Opracowano i zaproponowano system środków zapewniających rozwój zielonego budownictwa w Ukrainie. Uzasadniono i udowodniono, że zielone budownictwo jest sposobem na zazielenienie nie tylko branży budowlanej, ale także gospodarki i zrównoważonego rozwoju w ogóle. Główne ustalenia badania mogą być wykorzystane do wdrożenia koncepcji zielonego budownictwa w Ukrainie i zapewnienia stworzenia korzystnych warunków dla funkcjonowania rynku zielonego budownictwa.

Green construction as the way to ecologization of the economy and sustainable development of Ukraine

Aim of the study This study aims to evaluate the hydraulic and field performance of center irrigation systems in a semi-arid climate to determine their efficiency and effectiveness in optimizing water use and crop yield in such conditions. Material and methods The performance evaluation of the center pivot system involved placing two rows of catch-cans, spaced three meters apart and radiating outward from the pivot point, to measure the distribution and uniformity of irrigation. This setup helped in assessing the system’s efficiency in delivering water. Results and conclusions In the Almutawar system, the average performance metrics for the 2022/2023 season were: CU = 77.8%, DU = 85.7%, SC = 1.2%, AE = 84.3%, and WL = 18%. For the 2023/2024 season, these metrics were: CU = 78.9%, DU = 85.6%, SC = 1.2%, AE = 84.9%, and WL = 18.3%. Similarly, in the Zimmatic system, the average results were: CU = 79.1%, DU = 87.5%, SC = 1.2%, AE = 87.4%, and WL = 17.0% for 2022/2023, and CU = 79.9%, DU = 85.8%, SC = 1.2%, AE = 88.2%, and WL = 15.9% for 2023/2024. ANOVA revealed that the differences in CU, DU, and AE across treatments were not statistically significant (P = 0.01), though a general trend suggesting improved performance in the 2023/2024 season was noted. The study found that the hydraulic function of the center pivot system varied with different steering modes, suggesting potential issues with design compliance and efficiency. Further investigation into these discrepancies could help in optimizing system performance.

Evaluation of The Hydraulic and Field Performance of Center Pivot Irrigation Systems in a Semi-Arid Climate

Aim of the study The study aims to assess the feasibility of using remote sensing to estimate crop area and yield in a major rice-growing region of Maharashtra. Material and methods Recent advancements in remote sensing technology, including improvements in image resolution and availability, allowed for timely data collection. The study employs a random forest classifier to identify rice crop using sentinel-1A SAR temporal backscatter satellite images. Additionally, a semi-physical method that incorporates remote sensing and physiological concepts such as Photo-synthetically Active Radiation and a fraction of PAR absorbed by the crop is used to estimate crop yield. Results and conclusions Net Primary Product was calculated using the Monteith model. The calculation of Kharif rice yield involved considering the actual NPP, Radiation use efficiency, and Harvest index. The present study was conducted throughout two kharif seasons, 2020 and 2021. Although there are minor differences in kharif rice area and yield estimations, the model is still applicable in other significant kharif rice-growing regions of India.
