AQUICHAN is a medical and health sciences journal focused on the field of health sciences, specifically nursing. It publishes articles that investigate topics from the perspectives of epistemology, evidence-based practice, chronic care, and promotion and prevention. These articles are relevant to the academic and scientific communities in Colombia and abroad. The journal accepts previously unpublished original papers in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, which can be research or review articles that have not been evaluated by other scientific journals, whether in print or electronic format.

Introduction: The fast pace of changes in contemporary life increases the need to adapt, which leads to depressive pathologies due to psychological suffering. Yoga has therefore emerged as a complementary approach to the treatment of depression. Objective: To analyze the efficacy of yoga in reducing depressive symptoms. Materials and methods: This is a systematic literature review, which followed the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology for systematic reviews of efficacy, with the review protocol registered on Prospero under the code CRD42023448158. To devise the research question, the Pico strategy was adopted, in which “P” stands for people with depression, “I” for yoga; “C” for people who have not been submitted to yoga, and “O” for improvement/reduction of depressive symptoms. The requirements of the Prisma flowchart were followed and the search was conducted in the Medline/PubMed, Web of Science, Lilacs, BDEnf, Ibecs, PsycINFO, and Cinahl databases. The Jadad scale was used to assess methodological quality and the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 to assess the risk of bias. Results: A total of 1138 studies were found, of which 10 were selected for data extraction, detailed reading, and qualitative synthesis. Yoga, especially mindfulness yoga, has been shown to be an effective intervention for various conditions, including depression. Its benefits include significant improvements in depression severity, health-related quality of life, motor dysfunction, mobility, spiritual well-being, and parasympathetic nervous system activity. Conclusion: The studies highlight the efficacy of yoga in reducing depressive symptoms in various populations and contexts, highlighting its effectiveness as a complementary therapeutic approach in the management of depression.

Efficacy of Yoga in Reducing Depressive Symptoms: A Systematic Review

Introduction: Neither validated scales nor scales translated into Spanish currently exist to evaluate the perception of quality care in people receiving outpatient chemotherapy, despite their usefulness in evaluating the care provided by nurses and in promoting changes in the delivery of these services. Objective: To design and validate the novel Care Quality Ambulatory-I (CQAMB-I) instrument in outpatient chemotherapy services. Materials and methods: This is an instrument validation study carried out in three stages: literature review, design, and validation of the instrument. Content validation was performed with 14 specialists with at least a master’s degree and experience in chemotherapy or quality services; face validation was carried out through a pilot test with 31 participants diagnosed with cancer who received curative chemotherapy, and construct validation was carried out through an exploratory factor analysis with 436 users who received outpatient chemotherapy with curative intent. Results: A total of 15 items were removed in the content validation stage; none were removed in face validation. In construct validation, participants had a median age of 56 years, a median treatment time of 5 months, and breast cancer was the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer. Eighteen models were run, 30 items were removed, 6 factors emerged, and a KMO of 0.80 and a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.82 were obtained. Conclusion: The CQAMB-I proved to be valid and reliable for the evaluation of quality care in outpatient chemotherapy services. Additionally, it enabled expanding the conception of such care beyond the attributes of structure, process, and outcome.

Quality Care in Outpatient Chemotherapy. Design and Validation of the Novel Care Quality Ambulatory Instrument

Self-care is one of the main factors altered in the life of a person with an ostomy. Self-care requisites with nursing support are necessary. Objectives: To map the self-care requisites for people with intestinal ostomies in their adaptive process, guided by Orem’s theory. Materials and methodology: A scoping review was conducted between May and June 2022, in which studies published from 2000 to 2022 were selected, based on Orem’s self-care deficit nursing theory. The sources of evidence used were Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Cinahl, Scopus, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, Nursing database, Índice Bibliográfico Español en Ciencias de la Salud, Web of Science, Scientific Electronic Library Online, Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, Open Access Scientific Repositories of Portugal, Theses Canada, DART-Europe E-Theses Portal, and National ETD Portal. Studies presenting at least one requisite of self-care for people with intestinal ostomies, whether or not they addressed Orem’s theory, and that were published in full were included. We followed the recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institute and the PRISMA International Guide, registered in the Open Science Framework (10.17605/OSF.IO/XRH5K). The following descriptors and search strategies were used: (ostomy OR colostomy OR ileostomy OR stoma) AND (self-care OR self-management) AND (adaptation OR adjustment). Results: The final sample was composed of 87 studies. In universal requisites, studies in the category “nutritional aspects” predominated, of which the most frequent was “eat regularly and follow a balanced diet” (23; 26.4%); in developmental requisites, the prevalent category was “stoma and peristomal skin care” and requisite “assess peristomal skin integrity” (27; 31.0%); in the health deviation requisites, the predominant category was “choice of collection equipment and adjuvant products” and the requisite “use hydrocolloid powder to absorb moisture in cases of dermatitis” (13; 14.9%). Conclusions: The study contributes to guiding the assistance to the person with an ostomy, improving the self-care learning process. However, new intervention studies are still needed.

Self-Care Requisites for People with Intestinal Ostomies: A Scoping Review

Objective: To analyze the socio-demographic profile and caregiving situation of dependent older adults and their family caregivers in Brazil and Colombia. Method: This mixed comparative and exploratory study follows the comparative study stages proposed by Bereday, namely: Description, interpretation, juxtaposition, and comparison. A semi-structured interview was used. National and international ethical principles were followed in the study, with the ethics committee’s approval in each country. Results: A total of 250 participants were interviewed: 52 dependent older adults in Brazil and 56 in Colombia, along with 70 family caregivers in Brazil and 72 in Colombia. A total of 68.5 % of the elderly and 83.8 % of the caregivers were women. Twelve categories were created based on the participants’ statements, six in the dependent older people and six in the caregivers. Conclusion: Women and daughters were the primary family caregivers, and the Catholic religion was prevalent in both countries. Regarding the caregiving situation in both countries, it stands out that dependent older people and family caregivers feel the presence of a superior being assisting them in overcoming the challenges of caregiving activities.

Family Care for Dependent Older People at Home: A Comparative Study between Brazil and Colombia

家庭对居家依赖老人的照护：巴西与哥伦比亚的比较研究

Objective: To understand the perception of the Nursing team about institutional violence against hospitalized children. Materials and method: A qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study, performed at a large-size public hospital in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, with 17 Nursing professionals working in the Pediatrics unit, to whom semi-structured interviews were applied between March and May 2019. The collected data were categorized in the NVIVO12 software and submitted for content analysis. Results: The results are presented in four categories: The professionals’ lack of knowledge about institutional violence against hospitalized children; Recognition of institutional violence related to problems in the hospital infrastructure, Recognition of institutional violence in interpersonal relationships and Recognition of institutional violence in the care practices. Conclusions: It becomes necessary to apply policies to confront institutional violence, ranging from training the professionals to adapting the spaces and care practices to favor the children’s hospitalization environment.

Institutional Violence against Hospitalized Children: The Perception of Nursing Professionals

Introduction: The Internet has transformed the daily lives of young people, facilitating their virtual education and their communication with the world. However, in recent years, Internet addiction has increased worryingly, characterized by excessive dependence and problematic behaviors, which can affect the quality of sleep, essential for human life. Objective: To relate sleep quality to Internet addiction in university students in Ñuble, Chile. Material and methods: Quantitative, correlational research, using two validated questionnaires: The Internet Addiction Test and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The sample is comprised of 230 students from a private university. The data obtained are analyzed using Jamovi software for the normality test and the Spearman correlation coefficient. Results: The data reveal a majority of female population, between 20 and 25 years old, in the Nursing program. The relationship between sleep quality and Internet addiction is statistically significant and shows a weak positive correlation. This pattern is repeated for subjective sleep quality and sleep duration. However, its alterations do not show a significant relationship. Conclusion: A weak relationship is confirmed between sleep quality and Internet addiction in university students from Ñuble. The detailed results underline the importance of addressing sleep health in the context of Internet addiction, highlighting the need for preventive and intervention measures that significantly contribute to improving well-being and quality of life.

Introduction: People with disabilities face many challenges on a daily basis. Despite legislative advances and inclusion policies, discrimination against people with disabilities persists in various areas of life, including access to health services. Aim: This study aims to conduct an integrative literature review to investigate the factors associated with discrimination faced by people with disabilities in health services. Materials and Methods: The search was conducted in February 2024 in the IBECS, Lilacs, BDEnf, Medline (PubMed), Scopus, and Web of Science databases. The health descriptors (DeCS) “people with disabilities,” “social discrimination,” and “health services” were used. Original articles available in full, from the last five years, and in any language were included. The exclusion criteria were duplicate articles and those that did not answer the guiding question. Results: A total of 162 records were identified, from which 17 studies were selected, resulting in a final sample of 10 articles. The main factors associated with the discriminatory experiences faced by people with disabilities when accessing and using the health system were “stigmatization,” “negligence,” “prejudice,” and “access difficulties.” Conclusions: Significant drivers of discrimination were identified, including financial barriers, lack of training for health professionals, and other gaps that generate prejudice, stigmatization, and neglect. It is essential to implement public policies to ensure service accessibility, provide financial assistance for people with disabilities, establish training programs for health professionals, and conduct more research on this subject.

Discrimination and Access to Healthcare for People with Disabilities: An Integrative Literature Review

Introduction: Hypodermoclysis is an alternative method for administering medications and fluids. From this perspective, decision-making tools are useful for systematizing care. Objective: To develop and validate the content and appearance of an algorithm to guide eligibility for hypodermoclysis in adult patients. Materials and methods: Methodological study, developed between April and December 2020, in two stages: Construction of the algorithm and validation of content and appearance. In the first stage, a scoping review was constructed to identify and map the evidence on the eligibility/indication criteria for adult patients to use hypodermoclysis. In the second stage, the Delphi technique was used to evaluate the tool. The consensus among the judges was measured by the content validity coefficient. The item with more than 80% agreement was considered valid. Results: The algorithm uses three dimensions to assess the eligibility criteria for the use of hypodermoclysis in adults, focusing on the main absolute contraindications, such as anasarca, severe thrombocytopenia, and whether there is a need for rapid volume replacement. The content validation reached a total value of 0.95, while the appearance was 0.93, both in Delphi II. After the proposed changes, 100% of the judges recommended the use of the algorithm. Conclusions: The instrument produced and validated in this study constitutes a safe tool for care, because it reinforces the use of evidence-based praxis, as it is an instrument capable of bringing the theoretical field closer to the practical.

Hypodermoclysis As a Care Tool: Algorithm Construction and Validation

Introduction: COVID-19 manifests with acute symptoms. After coronavirus infection, they may persist or new ones may emerge, compromising functional capacity and self-care. This condition has been named “acute post-COVID-19 syndrome”. Objective: To evaluate functional capacity and self-care in post-COVID-19 patients. Materials and methods: This is a descriptive and exploratory study, which evaluated 53 medical records of patients receiving care in a Functional Recovery Program for acute post-COVID-19 syndrome, conducted at a public university, from August 2022 to August 2023. A descriptive and association analysis was performed using Pearson’s Chi-squared or Fisher’s exact nonparametric tests, with a significance level of 5 % (p &lt; 0.05). Results: Most participants were female, aged over 50 and receiving home care during the infection. Associations were found between the length of hospitalization (p = 0.03), having a history of surgery (p = 0.01), and a medium self-care capacity (p = 0.04) with the functional capacity to perform instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). Conclusion: Post-COVID-19 syndrome is associated with medium self-care capacity and partial dependence in terms of IADLs. The finding contributes to the development of health education and care strategies aimed at providing recovery.
