The rapid proliferation of fake news, misinformation, and disinformation poses a tremendous threat to the integrity of news and media production. This hazard is augmented by the instantaneous capacity to disseminate fallacious content globally with simply a touch of a button. As a result of this comprehension, this study aims to enhance the efficiency of fact-checking through the application of artificial intelligence (AI) by developing AI models to accurately classify trustworthy news, which improves the detection and containment of fake news. Additionally, the study seeks to raise awareness regarding the importance of news verification, which is achieved by ensuring information validity via AI and providing reports that evaluate the effectiveness of these novel techniques. We experimented with several machine learning models and determined the Support Vector Machine (SVM) was the best performing, which classified news articles with 98.60 percent accuracy by analyzing the first one thousand characters in news articles.

Leveraging AI for Effective Fake News Detection and Verification

The study explores the artificial intelligence (AI) divide in Egypt while considering the moderating influence of age/generation. The research compares digital natives born in the digital age vis-à-vis digital immigrants who grew up in less technologically adapted environments. The study uses the UTAUT2 model to measure how determinants of AI acceptance and digital self-efficacy impact the intentions and behaviors of 400 surveyed individuals. The results indicate that all AI acceptance determinants positively affect users’ intentions in both generations. However, social influence is more prevalent among digital immigrants, while hedonic motivation more significantly affects digital natives. Both generations prioritize performance expectancy, as well as habit and facilitating conditions, and highlight the low impact of effort expectancy. Digital self-efficacy dimensions also impact AI acceptance and use differently for each respectivegeneration. Interestingly, the study revealed an AI divide between generations. However, it proposed that governments and tech developers could reduce this divide by making AI more inclusive for all ages, which includes ensuring technology access for adults and individuals with special needs.

Artificial Intelligence Divide Between Digital Immigrants and Natives in Egypt (Arabic)

This paper explores the Once Upon a Time in Palestine XR Documentary as a case study to investigate the potential of virtual and augmented reality technologies in reshaping historical narratives through immersive stories that engage youth with history. The documentary recounts the oral history of pre-1948 Palestine by providing an interactive virtual experience presented on a virtual reality (VR) headset and augmented reality (AR) app. Developed on the Unity3D Gaming Engine, the project employs cutting-edge AI technologies to transform archival photographs into a three-dimensional environment. The storytellers are seamlessly integrated into the XR documentary as 3D volumetric videos to deliver mini-scripted reenactments of oral accounts that were collected from interviews with Palestinian elders. The paper examines various facets of the production process and its outcome while exploring the implications for youth engagement in both the creation process and interaction with the finished project. At the core of this process lies an endeavor to present content with minimal technological mediation that fosters a sense of plausibility through the creation of ‘presence’ for the audience. The case study presents observations and articulates the process undertaken to produce the documentary, which underscores the significance of employing virtual and augmented reality in historical documentaries. Furthermore, it assesses how an interdisciplinary multimodal pedagogical design can facilitate collaborative and interactive projects for undergraduate students, especially when the creators and consumers of the content are the target audience.

Engaging Youth in History Through Immersive Storytelling: A Case Study of the 'Once Upon a Time in Palestine' XR Documentary

This experimental study investigates the attitudes of journalists towards written content that is generated by artificial intelligence (AI) when compared to human-written journalistic pieces. The methodology utilized a comparative experiment that relied upon four journalists and three AI platforms, which respectively wrote an article on “The Language of Dialogue Between Parents and Adolescents in the AI Era”. Articles were anonymized and evaluated based on criteria of accuracy, coherence, objectivity, creativity, ethical considerations, and audience engagement. The research aims to assess differences in quality between AI-generated and journalist-written content, variations among AI outputs, and the influence of the backgrounds of journalists on their attitudes towards AI-generated work. Furthermore, it explores ethical considerations regarding AI platforms and potential for responsible AI integration in journalism, while maintaining industry standards. The significance of the study lies in understanding AI-human collaboration as it pertains to challenges and opportunities in newsrooms. These comprehensions serve as guiding policies for AI-assisted journalism to complement human skills and provides insight for journalists and AI developers.

The Attitudes of Journalists Toward Written Content Generated by AI

This study aims to understand the perspectives and experiences regarding AI adoption in the daily work of Omani media professionals. This research, which explores the prospects, pitfalls, and consequences of AI integration in media production and distribution within Oman, focuses on those involved in audio-visual media production. This includes anchors, editors, producers, and directors. The study conducted semi-structured interviews to investigate how Omani audio-visual media professionals perceive AI tool integration in their daily work. The participants in this research are media practitioners from both public and private media enterprises in Oman. The study relies on a purposive sampling technique to ensure the inclusion of individuals with direct experience in utilizing AI tools in their work. The findings reveal a generally positive disposition among participants toward AI technologies and AI integration in media. To these respondents the integration of AI saves time previously spent on routine and repetitive tasks that require little human creativity. The study unveiled numerous challenges as perceived by the participants, which includes AI algorithmic bias and lack of opportunity to promote and circulate media content. Another challenge includes insufficient Arabic databases as relating to AI programming. Such an insufficiency makes AI incapable of recognizing many Arabic contexts. This is exemplified by faulty AI-generated Arabic outputs, failure to precisely recognize Arabic accents, and imprecise visual outputs on Arabic cultural identity. User awareness is another key challenge in the era of AI.
