Numerous papers have been published on body cattle angularities subject in a few backward decades. However, the preeminent body angularities to the milk yield are unstipulated assertively. Hence, the current odyssey was to determine the transcendence body angular of dairy cattle interrelated with the milk yield for selection preferences. In total, 121 head of Holstein cows and seven reputable cattle body angularities were engaged as samples and measured variables for investigation. The software R version 4.2.1 and RStudio was operated simultaneously to facilitate statistical analysis. Later, the principal components (PCA), correlation, and regression analysis were carried out in that order. The PCA specified the thurl angle (TLA), hock side view angle (HSA), hock back views angle (HBA), and fore udder angle (FUA) as crucial factors of body cattle angularities. Then, the correlation analysis appointed HBA and TLA in series as the best trait related to milk yields. The regression analysis was merely entrusted to the HBA as a factor for prognosticating milk yield potency. Thus, the upshot of the ongoing exploration prompted the HBA as the main priority for milk yield selection preferences, followed by TLA. Both were usable on the calf, heifer, and cow selection scheme but should be enforced regularly.

Using of Conspicuous of Body Angularities Type Traits to Milk Yields as Dairy Cattle Selection Preferences

Ohmic heating (OH) is an electrothermal technology used to inactivate enzyme and microbial activities. This work aimed to study the impact of Ohmic Heating Under Vacuum (OHUV) which compared to conventional heating (CH) as well as storage stability at 5°C and 25 °C on microbial safety, and nutritional quality. The evaluation parameters were pH, titratable acidity, TSS, lycopene, ascorbic acid, PME, HMF, and microbiological activity. The obtained results showed that tomato paste samples that were treated by OHUV are significantly superior to CH in terms of all physicochemical and microbiological characteristics, as well as being the least harmful during storage in both transparent and dark packages. The results showed the changes in ascorbic acid, lycopene, and HMF values that were treated by OHUV at 25 °C and filled in transparent package are most affected compared to other treated samples. On the other hand, tomato paste samples stored in dark packages at 5 °C performed significantly better than those subjected to CH under the same conditions and activated PME the most had higher ascorbic acid and lycopene and fewer changes in HMF during storage time for 90 days. OHUV found to be a good alternative treatment in the production of tomato paste.

Vacuum Ohmic Heating: A Promising Technology for the Improvement of Tomato Paste Processing, Safety, Quality and Storage Stability

Selecting the appropriate date for planting rice can be one of the viable solutions for proper growth and development of rice to avoid unsuitable conditions that can lead to lower productivity. Two experiments were conducted in the field of Al-Mishkhab Rice Research Station in Najaf City / Iraq during 2020 and 2021. In each season, eight genotypes used and two germination dates (15 and 30 Jun). After 20 days, seedlings were transferred to the field and planted on 5th and 20th of July respectively. The experiment was based on a three-blocks in RCBD design to study the performance of eight genotypes at two planting dates in two seasons. Results showed significant differences for genotypes and planting dates for all traits, while seasons showed significant differences only for the number of days to 50% flowering and panicle length. The values of heritability in the broad sense (h2BS %) were medium for all studied traits, which in turn led to an increase in the values of expected genetic advance as a percentage of the general mean (GA %), which was slightly high for grain yield (13.66 %). The genotypes showed a significant response to the late sowing date of 20th July compared to the early date of 5th July in the two growing seasons for most of the studied traits, including grain yield. The stability of the genotypes in four environments was highly variable. Genotype T93 had the most stable grain yield and the highest 1000-grain weight, while Forat1 showed a response to late sowing. Furthermore, the Forat1 responded to suitable environmental conditions of the number of days to 50% flowering, 1000-grain weight, and grain yield. Therefore, the genotypes which have superiority and stability over various environments could be successfully used as crucial material in the future breeding programs.

Effect of Planting Dates on Stability of New Rice Genotypes Traits Grown in Iraqi Conditions

Antimicrobial proteins (AMP) from chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) seeds were isolated and purified using the saturation of (NH4)2So4 by 80% and gel filtration through Sephacryl S-200, the inhibition zone of the separated peak was 24, and 22 mm for growth of Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium respectively. The molecular mass was 28385 Da estimated through Sephacryl S-200. The optimum pH for activity was 5.5. It was stable at 4.5-7.5, while it lost 21.07 and 55.65% from its activity at pH 3 and 8 respectively, the optimum temperature for activity was 35°C and it was stable at 35°C for 60 min, while it lost all inhibitory activity at 65°C for the same time. The use of AMP at 100 mg resulted in an inhibition zone of 37± 2.92, 35±1.68, 32±2.33, and 33±2.09 mm, with a significant difference at (P≤0.05) against E. coli and S. Typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus cereus, respectively. The use of AMP to extend the shelf life of beef patties at 100 mg.kg-1 resulted in a decrease in the total count of bacteria, as it reached 7.4×102±0.18, 4.6×102±0.22 and 2.8×102±0.19 CFU.g-1, while it was 7.4×102±0.23, 8.2×102±0.31, and 9.5×102±0.27 CFU.g-1 in the control sample during a storage period of 0, 3, and 6 d at 4°C. It was observed that there was no significant difference in the control treatment and AMP added on 0 d, while a significant difference was observed at (P≤0.05) for treatments at a storage period of 3 and 6 d at 4°C.

Isolation and Purification of Chickpea (Cicer arietinum) Seeds Protein, Testing Their Antibacterial Activity, and Using to Extend The Shelf Life of Beef Patties

The current study aims of the current study is to establish cell suspension cultures of the medicinal plant, cumin Cuminum cyminum L. by the application of multiple drops and cross-section techniques. These methods were used in cultivating cell suspensions and in vitro plant regeneration. Leaf, stem, hypocotyl and root explants were cultured in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium containing different concentrations (0.05, 0.5 and 1.0 mg.l-1) of naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and (0.05, 0.1, 1.0 and 2.0 mg.l-1) benzyl adenine BA for callus production. The results indicated the high response of cumin, as the percentage of callus initiation was 100%.The plant regeneration percentage reached 91.6%. Moreover, a friable callus of hypocotyls was appropriate for initiation of cell suspension culture in MS medium with 0.5mg.l-1 NAA and 1.0 mg.l-1benzyl adenine (BA). The best density for primordial callus formation was 51.0 ×105 cells ml-1 in both multiple-drops and cross-sections embedding methods. Callus that had been produced from multi drops and sectors had the ability for shoot regeneration. This study clarified the efficiency of these techniques in establishing cell suspension culture and shoot regeneration, which could be promising sources for high production of active compounds in cumin plant.

Multi-drops and Cross-sections, Efficient Methods for Establishing Cell Suspension Culture of Cuminum cyminum L. and Plant Regeneration

The aim of this article is to review applications of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) in poultry meat. As well as, its effects on the qualitative characteristics and shelf-life stability. Packaging is a harmonized rule of preparing the product for transportation, dissemination, retail, and end-use to ensure safe delivery. MAP is modern packaging that includes air removal (78% N2, 21% O2, and 3% CO2 gas) from inside the casings and replacing them with a single gas or a mixture of gases. The atmosphere with a high concentration of O2 by 80 % leads to off-oxygenating the dye and keeps it from deteriorating on the surface of the meat. O2 causes oxidation of fat and protein, and decreases the quality of meat. The CO2 gas concentration and the casings composition significantly affect the change in the meat pH value. The decrease in oxygen in the packaging alters the meat colour from red to purple to convert the Oxymyoglobin to Deoxymyoglobin. Moreover, the consumer rejects this type of meat with a myoglobin tint. The colour stability using MAP has improved, and the Metmyoglobin configuration rate has decreased. MAP gave less moisture loss. The total and psychrophile bacterial populations in the poultry meat treated with MAP decreased and increased with the progress of storage periods. The TBA value, the peroxide value, and the fatty acid percentage decreased by using the MAP. MAP can be a part of Hurdle's technique to prolong the chicken meat shelf life.

Comprehensive Review of Modified Atmosphere Packaging for Poultry Meat: Effects on the Qualitative Characteristics and Shelf-Life Stability

Squash (Cucurbita pepo) fields in Mosul suffered from virus-like symptoms, such as vein clearing, severe mosaic, mottling, chlorosis, necrosis, stunting and fruit discoloration. The symptoms were associated with aphids presence in the infected fields. A metatranscriptomic analysis has been applied to detect the causal agent. The result showed that 559,024 mapped reads were related to Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus with full coverage to produce 5,662 bp consensus sequence. The virus sequence was deposited in National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) under accession number OQ865059, and the isolate named Iraq. For the first time in Iraq, the infection of the virus has been reported in squash, highlighting the impact of such virus infection that spread epidemically across the squash and other cucurbits fields.

Short Notes: First Report of Cucurbite Aphid-Borne Yellows Virus in Iraq

Mosaic disease causes a serious epidemic of cucumber plants in Iraq. To investigate causal agents of such symptoms, whole genome and metatrancriptomic sequencing data were collected from pathogenic cucumber leaves. The result shows that Tomato leaf curl Palampur virus DNA-A and B were existed with 2,756 and 2,719 bp sequences that deposited under acc. numbers ON229618 and ON229620 respectively, and the isolate named Babylon1. Further, Squash vein yellowing virus was found with 9,832 bp sequence that deposited under acc. number ON229619, and the isolate called Iraq. Mixed infection reported here for the first time in cucumber in Iraq, highlighting the impact of such infection that threat the cucumber fields.

Short Notes: First Report of a Co-Infection of Squash Vein Yellowing Virus and Tomato Leaf Curl Palampur Virus in Cucumber Plants in Iraq

This study was aimed to adopt an ecofriendly method to synthesize nanoparticles with an effective antibacterial and anti-biofilm activity. A food origin hypermucoviscous Klebsiella pneumoniae was isolated from food samples and identified using biochemical tests and the Vitek system. A string test was depended on to identify hypermucoviscous isolates. Enterotoxicity of foodborne hypermucoviscous K. pneumoniae isolates was detected phenotypically using suckling mouse bioassay. Biofilm forming ability was tested for all the isolated bacteria using the Microtiter plate method and Congo Red Agar. A natural food additive Syzygium aromaticum (clove) aqueous extract was used for the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles in optimized conditions. The biosynthesized clove-silver nanoparticles (Clove-AgNps) were characterized by several techniques, and their antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity was determined. The results of this study revealed that the isolation of 28 K. pneumoniae isolates were isolated from 200 food samples. String test results showed that 16/28 (57.14%) K. pneumoniae isolates were hypermucoviscous. Eleven of these isolates (68.75%) were enterotoxigenic. Using clove aqueous extract as a biological agent was successful in the biosynthesis of AgNPs with an average diameter of 14.12 nm as measured by AFM. The optimum biosynthesis conditions were: 1mM of AgNO3 concentration, pH 7, at 37 °C, and 24 hours. The minimum inhibitory concentration of the clove-AgNPs was detected as 62.5 µg.mL-1. Sub-inhibitory concentration of 31.25 µg.mL-1 of Clove-AgNPs resulted in: 91% decrease in the formed biofilm. It can be concluded that using Syzygium aromaticum is an effective ecofriendly method for AgNPs biosynthesis with excellent antibacterial and anti-biofilm activity against enterotoxigenic hypermucoviscous K. pneumoniae.

Food Additive Mediated Biosynthesis of AgNPs with Antimicrobial Activity Against Hypermucoviscous Enterotoxigenic Foodborne Klebsiella pneumoniae

Using 32 hens from two turkey lines; broad-breasted bronze (BBB) and bourbon red (BR), this study assessed how plumage colour affects egg production and physiological functions during (26-40) weeks of observation. A total of 32 hens, namely 16 hens from the BBB line and 16 hens from the BR line, were bred from 26 weeks up to 40 weeks of age. According to our results, BBB line significantly (p≤0.05) outperformed BR line in terms of body weight at first egg production, feed intake, and yolk diameter during the study period. A significantly (p≤0.05) higher feed conversion ratio, an increased egg mass, a higher production rate of hen-day eggs, and a higher rate of albumen was achieved by the BR line. It is, however, noteworthy that the age at first egg production, the egg weight, the egg mass, the yolk weight, the yolk percentage, the albumen weight, the shell weight percentage, the egg shell thickness, width, and length, the shape index, yolk height and yolk index were not significantly (p≥0.05) different between the two lines at 24 and 36 weeks of age. The levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were not significantly (p≥0.05) different between the two lines at 24 and 36 weeks of age when eggs were produced. Both turkey lines presented in the current study can potentially be raised in Iraq, as well as used as hens to produce hatching eggs and for genetic improvement.
