Hepatoprotective Effects of Camel Milk against CCl4-induced Hepatotoxicity in Rats

Effects of leaf extract of Spilanthes uliginosa (SW) on total protein, albumin, total and conjugated bilirubin levels in ethylene glycol exposed albino rats were studied.The animals were divided into 3 groups namely; A, B and C and groups A and B were subdivided into 2; A I , A 2 , B 1 and B 2 .All the groups and subgroups contained 6 albino rats each and were given water and food ad libitum.Groups A 1 and B 1 with A 2 and B 2 were treated with 1.85 mg kgG 1 and 3.70 mg kgG 1 of 90% ethylene glycol intraperitoneally once, respectively.Groups B 1 and B 2 were also given 1 mL of the plant extract, respectively by oral incubation for 21 consecutive days while group C received only the water and food.The average body weights of the treated groups decreased significantly at p<0.05 compared to control.The result showed no significant change at p<0.05 in total protein levels and significant decrease in albumin, total and direct bilirubin levels compare to control.The result obtained suggests toxicity of ethylene glycol and the ability of the plant extract to affect the levels of the analyzed parameters.

Effects of Extract of Spilanthes uliginosa (SW) on Total Protein, Albumin, Total and Conjugated Bilirubin in Ethylene Glycol Exposed Albino Rats

Enzymatic maceration of Morinda fruits was conducted with the enzymes like pectinase and diastase at 0.030 g kgG 1 as the extraction of juice from the ripened fruits of Morinda citrifolia and Morinda pubescens are difficult due to its slimy pulp.Juice yields were increased greatly with enzymatic treatment (p<0.05),The amounts of flavonoid and polyphenols as well as clarity of the juices were greatly varied because of different enzyme treatment.Juice treated with pectinase and diastase showed better clarity and sugar content than the untreated juice (p<0.05).The relative viscosity of the juice were also decreased in clarified and fermented juice of both fruits.The mass spectra of fermented juice of M. citrifolia exhibits 14 important peaks out of which 4 peaks are having larger % area.FT-Raman spectroscopy and gas chromatography techniques used for the assessments of its potential amino acids and fatty acid composition.

Chemical Characterization of Enzymatically Treated Morinda Juice

This study was designed to investigate the antidiabetic property of Cinnamomum iners leaves which were used traditionally to combat diabetes.Firstly, the antidiabetic activity of petroleum ether, chloroform, methanol and water extract of C. iners leaves was evaluated.Next, the potential extract which was the methanol extract was fractionated to obtain ethyl acetate, n-butanol, chloroform and aqueous fraction.The active chloroform fraction was subjected to subfractionation process to obtain subfraction 1 (SF 1) and subfraction 2 (SF 2).Cinnamomum iners leaves active portion (methanol extract, chloroform fraction and subfraction 1) was standardized using cinnamic aldehyde.The antidiabetic activity of standardized C. iners leaves was assessed by using Intra-Peritoneal Glucose Tolerance Test (IPGTT).The antidiabetic mechanism of active portion of C. iners leaves were also determined by measuring glucose absorption from the intestine.This study showed significant glucose tolerance effect of active portion of C. iners leaf after repeated oral administration in STZ-induced diabetic rats.The antidiabetic mechanism of subfraction 1 and chloroform fraction of C. iners leaf is by inhibiting glucose absorption from intestine.

Evaluation of the Lipid Profile and Atherogenic Risk in Hypothyroid Patients

Background and Objective: The binding of SARS-CoV-2 to ACE2 inhibits the action of the latter on the RAAS (Renin Angiotensin Aldosterone System), which could increase blood pressure and disturbances in the hydroelectrolyte balance.The objective of this study was to determine the electrolyte profile of patients with COVID-19.Materials and Methods: Within that framework, a 3-month retrospective analytical study of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 was conducted, admitted at Dalal Jamm Hospital and Aristide Le Dantec Hospital.Data were collected from the laboratory records of the said hospitals and included age, sex, clinical information (symptoms, underlying diseases and clinical forms) and blood ionogram results (natraemia and kalaemia).Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software.Results: About 745 patients were recruited.The mean age of the study population was 54.22±18.53with a sex ratio of 1.15.Ten percent of the population had a severe form.Hypertension was the most frequent comorbidity (14.53%) followed by diabetes (11.73%).The most frequent electrolyte disorders were hyponatremia (13.02%) and hyperkalemia (6.97%).They were more frequent in men, elderly subjects, those with a severe form of the disease and those with comorbidities.Conclusion: This data suggested a disturbance of the hydro electrolytic homeostasis in subjects infected by SARS-CoV-2.It appears to be associated with age, gender, disease severity and the presence of comorbidity.

Electrolytic Disorders in Senegalese SARS-CoV-2 Infected Subjects

Background and Objective: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic illness that is becoming more common across the world.As a result of this trend, it is rapidly becoming an epidemic in some countries around the world, with the number of people affected expected to double in the next decade due to an increase in the elderly population, adding to the already existing burden on healthcare providers, particularly in less developed countries.Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) accounts for around 90% of all diabetes cases.The present study aimed to investigate the biochemical profile of type 2 diabetes patients.Materials and Methods: Survey on diabetes prevalence and biochemical profiles like Blood Glucose, Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT), Serum Glutamic-Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT), serum bilirubin (total), serum bilirubin (direct), alkaline phosphatase, total serum cholesterol, High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) and Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) of selected people was done.Results: From the survey, it was found that type 2 diabetes is more prevalent among the rural population.Male with age group 50-80 is more prone to diabetes.Conclusion: Diabetes patients had higher total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein levels and lower levels of high-density lipoprotein than normal healthy controls.
