This study aims at analyzing the effectiveness of using an additional field player, when goalkeeper is replaced, during the positional attack in the case of numerical equality, superiority or inferiority and when counterattacks are suffered.The sample consisted of 841 attack actions collected from eight games of men's teams in the knockout phase of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.The number of goals scored and the counterattacks suffered in symmetrical and asymmetrical situations were checked for both situations: using the additional player or not.Was performed the chi-square test (Φ) and the effect power was calculated using Phi (x 2 ).The analysis of the attack showed that there was no association between goal-making and the use of the additional field player in different asymmetric situations.There was no association between the reach of the goal in case of opponent's counterattack substitution of the goalkeeper with the additional field player or not as well as no association between punishment and goal achievement in different offensive situations.The use of an additional field player did not benefit the team in attack actions and brought no disadvantages in the scoreboard.These results show that, in this championship, such strategy did not produce significant changes in decisive games of men's handball.

The use of the additional field player on handball: analysis of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. [El uso del jugador adicional en el balonmano: análisis de los Juegos Olímpicos de Río 2016].

The contact of the serve’s ball with the net in volleyball generates uncertainty in the receivers, due to the change in trajectory and speed that occurs. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of the serve contact with the net on the performance of the receiving team, on male teams of the highest international level. A total of 4,227 actions of reception or side-out corresponding to 29 matches were analysed, of which only 275 contacted the net (5.42%). Reception performance was higher in the power jump serves that contacted with the net (p&lt;0.001). However, the effect of contact with the net on floating serves did not have a significant impact. The final performance of the side-out did not make a significant impact neither. In conclusion, the contact of the ball with the net affects the reception performance in the highest international men's volleyball teams.

Principal Component Analysis (PCA) has not been used to assess the principal component (PC) of players´ external training loads (TL) in futsal. In addition, no previous study has analyzed the PC of players´ external TL depending on the half of the match in futsal. Thus, this study aimed to assess the PC of players´ external TL considering an entire official futsal match distinguishing by halves (1st and 2nd halves). Two teams of twelve amateur futsal players (Spanish 3rd division) participated in the final match of the futsal cup and external TL was quantified using eight antennas ultra-wideband technology. Through PCA statistical analysis, 10 variables formed the 10 PC. Specifically, three PC for the entire match, four for the 1st half, and three for the 2nd half were extracted. Considering the match as a whole, three PC explained the players´ external TL formed by eight variables: distance covered (m/min), distance covered at high speed running (m/min), distance covered at explosive speed (m/min), total accelerations (n/min), total decelerations between 2-1 m/s/s (n/min), distance covered at 24-50 km/h (m/min), total impacts between 8-100g (n/min) and Jumps performed (n/min). The PC variables differed between halves: a) in the 1st half 74.5% was explained by four PC composed of 8 variables in total, and b) in the 2nd half 67.6% was explained by three PC. The results suggest that the use of only one PC could potentially lead to an underestimation of the external TL demands in futsal matches. It seems that a combination of 3-4 PC from a total of 8 to 10 variables are required to explain senior amateur futsal official games. In addition, the match half should be considered to assess the external TL in team sports.

A Principal Component Analysis in futsal according to game halves: A case study of an amateur futsal cup final. [Análisis de componentes principales en fútbol sala según las partes de juego: un estudio de caso en una final de copa amateur].

El objetivo de este trabajo fue diseñar una herramienta para valorar el nivel de especificidad de las Situaciones Simuladoras Preferenciales (SSP) en fútbol. El nivel de especificidad se valoró a partir de las variables estructurales propias a la SSP. Se analizaron 100 SSP realizadas por un equipo de fútbol profesional durante las temporadas 2016-17 y 2017-18. El modelo estadístico generó un vector con 28 componentes numéricos, seguidamente se calculó la distancia de cada vector respecto a la referencia, el partido, para normalizar dicho valor en un rango de entre 1 y 10 (1 poca y 10 mucha especificidad respecto a un partido de fútbol). Los resultados indican que la herramienta de valoración del nivel de especificidad permite categorizar y agrupar las SSP estudiadas acorde a su lógica interna. La utilización de esta herramienta permite objetivar el nivel de especificidad de las SSP, lo que podría ayudar a los técnicos deportivos en la programación, diseño y análisis de programas de intervención para optimizar el rendimiento de los jugadores en el fútbol formativo y profesional.

Diseño y validación de una herramienta de valoración del nivel de especificidad de las situaciones simuladoras preferenciales en fútbol. [Design and validation of a Specificity level assessment tool for preferential simulation situation in football].

The aim of the study was to determine the differences in competition statistics between professional and under-18 (U-18) players by sex. A total of 546 official matches of Grand Slam were selected (268 male and 278 female). The data was obtained from the official website of the tournaments. Different variables related to match time, serve, return and winners-unforced errors were analysed. Descriptive analysis and a Mann-Whitney U test to analyse the differences between professional players and U-18 players were performed. Likewise, to estimate which variables obtained the greatest significant differences was conducted a discriminant analysis. ATP players played longer sets and matches, had a better serve performance and hitting more winners than U-18 male players. Junior male players increased their return effectivity and hit fewer unforced errors than ATP players (p&lt; 0.001). WTA players hit less double faults, had a better percentage of first serve-in and hit more winners than U-18 female players. Junior female hit less unforced errors than WTA players (p&lt; 0.001). Moreover, the key differences between professional and junior players both males and females were the number of winners and unforced errors per set. Further, the match time and aces hitting were key factors that differentiated ATP players from U-18 male players. These data would be help coaches to design junior’s trainings programs, improving their performance based on key professional stage factors.

Differences in Grand Slam competition statistics between professional and U-18 players according to the sex. [Diferencias en las estadísticas de competición de Grand Slam entre jugadores profesionales y Sub-18 según el género].

El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la eficacia del programa preventivo a través del entrenamiento pliométrico y control motor sobre la estabilidad del tobillo en jugadoras de fútbol sala de Segunda división nacional. Se diseñó un estudio cuasiexperimental de intervención con una evaluación de pre-post test, durante la temporada 2021-2022, con una duración de 4 semanas, más dos de evaluación. Los test utilizados para ello fueron el CMJ, el THT y el YBT”. 8 jugadoras de fútbol sala de edad (25.78 ± 6.44 años) y altura (165.0 ± 7.07 cm) de nivel semiprofesional, que compite actualmente en Segunda División Nacional, llevaron a cabo el programa preventivo, compuesto por un circuito de 7 postas de trabajo específico. Los resultados obtenidos tras la intervención no obtuvieron mejoras significativas en las siguientes pruebas, CMJ y THT (p&gt;0,060 y p&gt;0.507) respectivamente, aun así, en el test CMJ la altura del salto vertical aumentó 2 cm con respecto al pre test y la media de la pierna izquierda en el THT obtuvo una mejora de (p&lt;0.085). Por otro lado, el rendimiento del CS en el YBT sí mejoró significativamente, tras un periodo de intervención de 4 semanas, (p&lt;0.045, TE = 1.12; y p&lt;0.007, TE=1.9), aumentando un 14% en el CS. El programa preventivo llevado a cabo durante la intervención demostró que no se obtuvieron mejoras significativas en líneas generales, a excepción del YBT, el cual mostró mejoras en la dorsiflexión del tobillo para ambos pies.

El objetivo fue analizar el efecto de la edad sobre las demandas físicas y fisiológicas de juegos reducidos con diferente espacio de interacción individual. Treinta jugadores de edad sub-12 (U12: n=10; edad, 11.2  0.8 años; altura, 145.4  6.4 cm; masa corporal, 37.5  3.9 kg), sub-14 (U14: n=10; edad, 13.5  0.6 años; altura, 163.7  5.9 cm; masa corporal, 51.5  6.2 kg) y sub-16 (U16: n=10; edad, 15.8  0.4 años; altura, 172.8  7.3 cm; masa corporal, 61.2  9.3 kg) participaron en el estudio. Se analizaron juegos reducidos (JR) de 5 vs 5, realizados con espacio de interacción individual (EII) pequeño = 50 m2 (JRp), medio = 100m2 (JRm) y grande = 150 m2 (JRg). La demanda física se obtuvo con GPS registrando la distancia recorrida, la carga neuromuscular y el desplazamiento en rangos de velocidad. La carga fisiológica se obtuvo con 3 zonas de intensidad a partir de la frecuencia cardíaca máxima (FCmax): Z1 &lt; 80% FCmax, Z2 = 80-90% FCmax y Z3 &gt; 90% FCmax. Los U12 recorrieron significativamente menos distancia que U14 (p &lt; 0.05) y U16 (p &lt; 0.05) en todos los formatos. En JRm el desplazamiento a alta velocidad fue significativamente mayor en U16 que en U14 (p = 0.000) y U12 (p = 0.000). En U12 a medida que el EII era mayor se incrementaban de forma significativa Z3 (JRp vs JRm: p = 0.001; JRp vs JRg: p = 0.001; JRm vs JRg: p = 0.000). El EII provoca un estímulo diferente en los futbolistas según la edad.

There is a lack of studies that examine the longitudinal relationship between physical activity (PA) and mental health with accelerometers in adolescent populations. The current study aimed to investigate whether changes in PA intensities and sedentary time (ST) are associated with mental health in a cohort of adolescents. 246 (130 boys, 116 girls) high school adolescents aged 13-15 years old (13.28 ± .57) were recruited in a city from the north of Spain. PA and ST levels were assessed by accelerometry. Psychological well-being (PWB) was measured using a self-reported validated questionnaire. Regression linear models were implemented by including PWB as the dependent variable and PA intensities and ST as predictors. Girls who increased light, moderate, and vigorous PA had significantly better PSW at follow-up, whereas no longitudinal associations were found for boys. No association between ST and PSW was identified. The results suggest changes in PA, but no in ST, have an association with PWB in adolescents. Nevertheless, the associations were stronger in girls than in boys. Because girls showed worse PWB at both time points, an optimal threshold for PA influence on mental health could explain the results. Future research is warranted.

Longitudinal associations between physical activity and mental health in adolescents

The objective of this research was to know the relationship of the predictive variables of stress and commitment in the sports and academic context of adolescent judokas based on different personal characteristics, such as sex and sports level. Material and methods: A selective research methodology was used, with a retrospective ex-post-facto design. The sample consisted of 111 competing judokas (59 men and 52 women) aged between 11 and 19 years, all of them students of regulated secondary education. Results: In general, the sample effect size was large in variables like Sport Task Coping; medium in Sport Distancing Coping and short in Sport Emo- tion Coping. The correlational analysis between the variables of interest showed the existence of a negative relationship of stress with resilience and commitment, both in the academic and sports fields. Second, two clusters were extracted from the sample using the Ward’s method and taking into account the interval provided by the squared Euclidean distance standardized by Z scores and generating a dendrogram. The analyses carried out show the existence of two large groups of judokas with similar characteristics to each other and different from the rest. The results verified the relationship between stress variables and the commitment between the academic and sports context, therefore, the sports practice could be used as a means to improve stress coping strategies and to improve commitment in the academic field. Conclusions: Sports stress predicts academic stress, and sports stress and resilience predict academic engagement.

Analysis of psychological variables predicting stress and sports-academic engagement in judokas.

The aim of this investigation was to determine the effects of modifying the number and type of targets on the individual offensive behavior during small-sided games (SSGs) in youth soccer players. A total of 20 youth elite players (age: 13.9± 0.6 years; weight: 53.2±5.6 kg; height: 1.6±8.3) performed a training game in form of 5vs5 players + 1 floater (excluding goalkeepers) under two different formats: 1) finishing at one regular goal and goalkeeper (RG) and 2) finishing at three mini-goals without goalkeeper (3MG). The sample comprised 1056 individual possessions for which six technical tactical indicators were evaluated by means of observational methodology. Descriptive and comparative analyses revealed that 3MG games created a context where players of all playing positions received the ball in more advanced field zones, under less defensive pressure, and performed fewer dribbles than during the RG games. Also, regression logistic analyses showed how players had lower odds of performing passes to progress vs to possess (Odds ratio= 0.577; 95% confidence interval: 0.427-0.779; p&lt;0.05), as well as registered higher odds to achieve a positive outcome in their actions (Odds ratio=2.143; 95% confidence interval: 1.488-3.086; p&lt;0.05) during the 3MG format. This study shows that finishing at one regular goal increases the defensive pressure on the ball carrier and the implementation of more penetrative actions such as dribbles and passes to progress, in comparison with finishing at three mini-goals.
