Background and Objective: The entrepreneurial competencies of the training participants at the labor training center (LTC) still seem low.The use of traditional job sheets and textbooks is still widely used in entrepreneurship learning.Utilizing a competency based module in entrepreneurship training may be able to overcome the low competency of entrepreneurship in trainees.This Research and Development study aimed at developing competency-based entrepreneurship modules instruction to improve participantsʼ entrepreneurial competencies at the LTCs.Materials and Methods: As many as 150 trainees were divided into 2 groups in which the experimental one was facilitated by competency-based modules and the control group was facilitated by using textbooks or job sheets.Results: The study proved that the use of competency-based modules facilitation improved the traineesʼ entrepreneurial competencies. Conclusion:It is concluded that competency-based modules instruction improves the entrepreneurial competencies of the trainees at the LTCs.

Development of Competency-based Modules Instruction to Improve Entrepreneurship Competence on Labor Training Centre Learner

Background and Objective: Thalassemia is one of the most prevalent hereditary diseases in West Java, Indonesia.Children with thalassemia need care from the first years of their life owing to the physical and psychological effects of their disorder.Thalassemia is a concern not only for the childrenʼs health but also for the quality of life of both the children and their caregivers.This study investigated the relationship between the burden of care giving and the psychological conditions.Materials and Methods: In this analytical cross-sectional study, a total of 60 parents of children with thalassemia dependent transfusion (11 fathers and 49 mothers) aged 19-73 years (M = 38.12,SD = 9.80) were included, of whom 83.33% of caregivers lived with their spouses.All participants completed 2 different questionnaires to assess their knowledge about thalassemia and their psychopathological symptoms (SCL-90).All participants consented to undergo screening and voluntarily participated in the screening tests.Results: Caregivers had high knowledge of thalassemia, but their education levels were rather low.The major finding of this study was that their psychopathological symptoms were significantly associated with their occupation (p = 0.039, OR = 0.309, 95% CI = 0.099-0.965).Those with no occupation showed a higher prevalence of psychopathological symptoms.Conclusion: Thalassemia affects not only the persons with the disorder but also their caregivers in several aspects, including their psychosocial well-being.This study emphasises the role of a supportive group in the psychological well-being of caregivers, which could be used to prevent the pathological effects of caregiver burden and enhance their psychological well-being through counselling.

Profile and Psychological Burden in Caregiver of Children with Thalassemia Dependent Transfusion

Background and Objective: Helicobacter pylori is relatively new and at the preliminary stage in Malaysia.However, it is limited to find how Malaysians are aware about these microorganisms.The aim of current study was to identify the prevalence and risk factors associated with H. pylori infection in gastric ulcer patients.Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional quantitative study which was conducted in the selected private clinics in Kelana Jaya, Selangor state by using a systematic random sampling method.It was carried out among 240 respondents above 18 years old by using a validated structured questionnaire.Results: The prevalence of having gastritis was 0.56% with mean age±SD 30.2±9.6.Age, weight, marital status, smoking, drinking coffee, type of food, spicy food, have dental problem and family history were significantly associated with gastritis by using chi square test and independent t-test.However, only family history (Adj OR = 1.10, p>0.001), marital status (p = 0.001), weight (Adj OR = 1.065, p = 0.004) and age (Adj OR = 1.097, p = 0.003) were the most important predictable factors that related with gastritis in the multiple logistic regression.Conclusion: The high prevalence of gastritis in Malaysia is attributable to some risk factors such as: Age, weight, smoking, type of food, spicy food and family history.Further validation of our findings warrants study of larger number of cases.

Prevalence and Risk Factors of H. pylori Induced Gastritis among Selangor Urban Population

Background and Objective: During this last century we observed the diminution of antibiotics efficacy.For this reason the development of new molecules is becoming a necessity to address with the threats of bacterial infections.In this study, we tried to evaluate the antibacterial effect of Inula viscosa L. on 5 clinical strains: Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia and Morganella morganii in addition to 2 reference strains: Staphylococcus aureus ATCC29213 and Escherichia coli ATCC25922.Materials and Methods: The polyphenolic compounds were extracted from the leaves by maceration in methanol and hexane fractionation.The antibacterial activity was determined by the solid-state disk diffusion method and the minimal inhibitory concentration by dilution in solid medium.Results: All the tested strains were sensitive to the polyphenolic extract with inhibition zones 10.8-21 mm.Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus proved to be more sensitive to the polyphenolic extract in comparison with the tested antibiotics.The lowest minimal inhibitory concentration was recorded with Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (0.39 mg mLG 1 ).The highest minimal inhibitory concentration was found in both strains of Escherichia coli.The polyphenolic extract showed a bacteriostatic effect on Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC29213.It had however, a bactericidal effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Morganella morganii and Escherichia coli ATCC25922.Conclusion: Inula viscosa L. represents a natural and a promising source of chemical molecules which have important antibacterial activities on Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.

Valorisation of Algerian Medicinal Plants: Inula viscosa L. A Future Source of Antibacterial Drugs

Background and Objective: Endo-1,4-$-mannanase ($-mannanase, EC 3.2.1.78)is an industrially important enzyme which catalyses the hydrolysis of mannan-based polysaccharides.This enzyme is produced by psychrophilic and mesophilic groups of Arthrobacter sp., yet none of them were structurally characterized.This study aims to decipher the structural features of Arthrobacter $-mannanases that might responsible for their cold adaptation.Material and Methods: Thirty amino acid sequences encoding $-mannanases from Arthrobacter sp. were retrieved from GenBank and subjected to series of analysis of amino acid profiling and structural homology modelling using Phyre2 and SWISS-MODEL.Results: Structural alignment showed the catalytic residues (2 glutamic acids) were conserved among $-mannanase suggesting that they might shares catalytic mechanism.Psychrophilic $-mannanases showed remarkable differences from the mesophilic ones in the content of hydrophilic, particularly negatively charged, residues and proline, which were thought to be important for its cold adaptation.Three-dimensional model of all Arthrobacter $-mannanases forms a classic "/$ barrel motif consisting of 8 helices and 9 $-sheets structures, except for psychrophilic ones, which having 8 helices and 8 $-sheets.Conclusion: Adaptation of Arthrobacter $-mannanases towards cold temperature involves structural adjustment particularly on structural flexibility and amino acid distribution.

Background and Objective: Municipal solid waste management has always been challenging in developing countries.Numerous waste management technologies, including landfill operations, pyrolysis and incineration are now available.However, these technologies frequently come with drawbacks (operational and maintenance issues) and have detrimental effects on the environment.In this regard, ongoing work is being done to create environmentally friendly technologies to address waste management issues.In response to these difficulties, Black Soldier Fly Larval (BSFL) biodegradation has emerged as an outstanding green waste management strategy.It hasnʼt, however, received much research.Therefore, the current study was to investigate the efficiency of larval treatment on a substrate containing varying proportions of water hyacinth, fruit waste and manure.Materials and Methods: Five feeding trays with different proportions of water hyacinth, fruit waste and manure were 65:25:10 (T1), 50:40:10 (T2), 35:55:10 (T3), 15:75:10 (T4) and 10:80:10 (T5), respectively.The percentage biomass conversion ratio (BCR), the effectiveness of waste reduction and the percentage growth of larvae were measured.Complete Randomized Design (CRD) was used in the experimentʼs design.Results: So, with a 2050% increase in initial larvae weight, 85.4% waste reduction efficiency and a biomass conversion rate of 30.71%,T3 had the best outcomes, followed by T5, T4, T2 and T1.The BSFLʼs growth performance, waste reduction effectiveness and biomass conversion ratio were remarkably high.The highest growth performance, reduction efficiency and conversion ratio of larvae reared on water hyacinth, fruit waste and manure may be attributed to a nutritionally balanced diet.Conclusion: Therefore, the different proportions of water hyacinth, fruit waste and manure fed to larvae significantly influence the percentage growth performance, waste reduction efficiency and biomass conversion ratio of the larvae.

Waste Reduction, Biomass Conversion and Growth Performance of Black Soldier Fly Larvae Using Organic Waste

Background and Objective: Biomphalaria species widely distributed all over the Egyptian Governorates considered as an the intermediate host of Schistosoma mansoni.This study aimed to investigate the interspecific variations between two Biomphalaria species that collected from five different governorates namely; Gharbia, Beni Suef, Giza, Menoufia and Qalyubia by the amplification of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) then comparing using restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP).Materials and Methods: All wild Biomphalaria snails were collected from the terminal irrigation canals.Laboratory well identified B. alexandrina and B. glabrata were obtained from Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI) to be used as a reference snails.The DNA of wild and laboratory snails were extracted and ITS region was amplified using PCR, then comparing using the restriction enzyme Dde I. Results: The present study showed that the amplification of ITS region revealed the appearance of single band with 1100 bp in both wild and laboratory Biomphalaria species.After RFLP profile, three bands of 480, 260 and 100 bp were detected in snails that collected from Giza and Beni Suef governorates.These bands were similar to bands obtained in laboratory B. glabrata.While Gharbia, Menoufia and Qalyubia snailsʼ expressed two bands (480 and 100 bp) only which were similar to laboratory B. alexandrina.Conclusion: Biomphalaria species collected from Giza and Beni Suef governorates were identical to B. glabrata and species that collected from the other governorates were identical to B. alexandrina.

Identification of Invasive Biomphalaria glabrata Prevalence Using Internal Transcribed Spacer in Egyptian Governorates

Background and Objective: Indoor radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after cigarette smoking, according to the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) study.The soil under the house or the building is the main source of indoor radon in the homes, buildings and other residential objects.Other sources are construction materials, groundwater and natural gas.The present work aimed to assess the radon concentration in student residence buildings and their impact on health.Materials and Methods: In this study, the indoor radon concentration in the student residence was measured using the digital radon detector air things of Corentium in fourteen buildings.Results: The long-term concentration of radon in university residences varies from 2-9 Bq mG 3 at Patte dʼOie, from 4-15 Bq mG 3 at KOSSODO, from 10-19 Bq mG 3 at IDS, from 14-191 Bq mG 3 at UTS and 4-11 Bq mG 3 at BOBO.The results show a higher concentration of radon in the buildings of the university residences were measured at UTS with average values of 65.86 Bq mG 3 for the long term and 53.90 Bq mG 3 for the short term.The radon effective dose equivalent in building 2 at UTS student residence (8.249 mSv/year) was slightly larger than the limit of the recommended action level (3-10 mSv/year) as reported by the ICRP-1993.The RRLC range was from 1.003-1.126with an average of 1.02 is almost negligible.Conclusion: Results concluded that the relative risk of lung cancer in the student residence building varied from 1.003 to 1.126 with an average of 1.02.
