Nel 2017, nell’ambito del Piano Strategico del Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli e delle iniziative tese a sviluppare nuovi modelli di accessibilita, l’Associazione Progetto Museo ha realizzato il progetto Attraverso gli occhi degli altri – Per un nuovo modello di interculturalita , per realizzare materiale informativo per il Museo diretto ad un pubblico di cultura cinese. L’obiettivo del progetto non era quella di raggiungere una comunicazione neutra e oggettiva, ma di rispettare il concetto di interculturalita, come definito dall’UNESCO. Si sono quindi svolti dei laboratori partecipativi realizzati con studenti cinesi dell’Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli per la redazione di schede pensate per un pubblico di cultura cinese, e con bambini cinesi per la redazione un libricino da fornire a tutti i bambini in visita al Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli. In 2017, in the framework of the Strategic Plan of the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli and of the activities aimed at increasing accessibility of the Museum, the Association Progetto Museo developed the Project Through the others’ eyes – For a new intercultural model , with the goal to create informative materials specifically targeted to a Chinese audience. The aim was not to reach an objective and neutral communication, but to follow the definition of interculturality as described by UNESCO. Participative workshops were carried out with Chinese students of the Naples Fine Arts Academy to write a short guide of the Museum targeted to a Chinese audience and with Chinese children to write a short activity book to distribute to all the children visiting the Museum.

通过他人的眼睛。为一种新的跨文化模式：那不勒斯国家考古博物馆的可及性项目

La ricerca si propone di delineare i modelli espositivi delle collezioni e dei musei archeologici fra Settecento e prima meta dell’Ottocento. In quest’arco di tempo infatti il display museale presta sempre maggiore attenzione alle esigenze di un visitatore non specializzato. L’indagine si avvale sia di studi recenti, sia di un’approfondita analisi delle fonti coeve. Ne emerge che nel volgere di alcuni decenni, la collezione privata e il museo, ancora non del tutto aperti al pubblico, si trasformano spesso, anche in ragione del mutato contesto storico-politico. Le nuove istituzioni tengono conto di una pubblica opinione in via di organizzazione e si rivolgono a visitatori sempre piu numerosi e internazionali, ma meno eruditi. Gli allestimenti archeologici alla fine del Settecento e nei primi decenni dell’Ottocento non puntano solo sulla qualita delle collezioni o sulla loro importanza scientifica, ma anche sulla capacita di contestualizzare gli oggetti ed emozionare il visitatore.  This research aims to outline the exhibition models of archaeological collections and museums between the eighteenth and the first half of the nineteenth century. During this period, museum displays became increasingly attentive to the needs of unskilled visitors. The survey makes use of both recent studies and an in-depth analysis of contemporary sources. It emerges that in the course of a few decades, private collections and museums, not yet completely open to the public, were often transformed, also due to the changed historical-political context. The new institutions became aware of the expectations of an increasingly organized public opinion and addressed to an ever growing number of unskilled visitors, both Italian and international. Archaeological displays at the end of the eighteenth century and in the first decades of the nineteenth century not only relied on the quality or the scientific importance of collections, but also on the ability to contextualize objects and excite visitors.

Archetipi espositivi e modelli di fruizione dell’antico tra Settecento e Ottocento / Exposition archetypes and models of use of the Ancient between the XVIII and XIX centuries

Il contributo focalizza l’attenzione su una struttura difensiva di eta altomedievale, un tempo localizzata nei pressi dell’attuale citta di Sant’Antioco (Sardegna, Italia) e oggi scomparsa. Attraverso una disamina delle fonti archeologiche, storiche e delle affinita architettoniche rintracciabili attraverso il confronto tra le riproduzioni superstiti del complesso e le vestigia degli omologhi edifici in Africa, lo studio mira a ricostruire quali possano essere state le cause della sua realizzazione, proponendo di identificarle come il conflitto tra Bizantini e Mauri all’indomani della riconquista dell’Africa da parte di Bisanzio (prima meta del VI secolo). The paper aims to enlight the origin of a defence structure dated to the high Middle Age, originally located near the actual population of the city of Sant’Antioco (Sardinia, Italy) and actually gone. By a study of the archaeological, historical witnesses and the comparison between the architectural peculiarities of the castrum and the survived traces of its homologous structures in Africa, the paper tries to reconstruct what would have been the causes for its construction, proposing to identify them in the conflict between Byzantines and Moors after the Byzantine conquest of Africa during the first half of the VI century A.D.

The following article focuses on the challenges of cultural participation within the context defined by the Covid-19 pandemic. While a background noise characterized by a sort of forced, compulsive digital interaction has been accompanying the months of lockdown, making many express a renewed optimism towards the massive interest in heritage as a form of resistance, the impoverishment of the sector is casting new light on the possibilities of its agency and social impact in the next future. Still, in confused times it is paramount to isolate a few sustainable and innovative practices and to observe them throughout time, much as in a scientific lab. The article concentrates on two issues pertaining to the umbrella-concept of “participation”, and articulates each of them through a selection of recent case-studies from within the museum field: the role and agency of museums as mirrors in times of crisis and their capability of a “rapid response”, and heritage interpretation communities as a means for strengthening the social and cultural tissue through an intergenerational approach. While the focus is on the Italian context, a few international experiences are also described as potential sources of inspiration in terms of strategy and methodology.

Musei, territori, comunità interpretative: Le nuove sfide della partecipazione

Il contributo intende chiarire le vicende legate alla realizzazione dell’opera Madonna di Loreto con i santi Tommaso d’Aquino e Carlo Borromeo del 1618, custodita nella chiesa di San Tommaso Apostolo di Offagna. La ricerca ha permesso di proporre il reverendo Antioco Bentivogli, gia noto agli studiosi per avere intrattenuto uno scambio epistolare con Galileo Galilei su temi scientifici, come committente della tela, esposta nella cappella dedicata alla Vergine lauretana, patronata dalla famiglia Bentivogli dal 1617 fino al XVIII secolo. L’iconografia della tela, in linea con le riforme promosse dal Concilio di Trento e applicate dal Cardinale Antonio Maria Gallo durante il suo mandato vescovile nella diocesi di Osimo, rivela delle correlazioni con le nuove notizie biografiche del reverendo. Sulla base del confronto stilistico si suggerisce l’attribuzione della tela al pittore fiammingo Ernst Van Schayck (Utrecht 1575 – Macerata 1632), che un documento d’archivio inedito afferma essere presente a Osimo in quegli anni. This paper seeks to clarify the events related to the painting of the Madonna di Loreto with Saints Thomas Aquinas and Carlo Borromeo (1618), located in the church of Saint Thomas the Apostle in Offagna. The research allowed to suggest that Reverend Antioco Bentivogli, already known to scholars for his exchange of letters with Galileo Galilei about scientific issues, commissioned this artwork. Such painting was located in the chapel dedicated to the “Vergine lauretana”, under the patronage of the Bentivogli family from 1617 until XVIII century. The iconography of the painting, in line with the reforms promoted by the Council of Trento and applied by Cardinal Antonio Maria Gallo during his episcopal mandate in the diocese of Osimo, reveals relations with the latest biographical findings regarding the Reverend. Based on the style comparison, it is suggested that the painting is ascribed to the Flemish painter Ernst Van Schayck (Utrecht 1575 – Macerata 1632), who is claimed, according to an unedited archive paper, to have lived in Osimo in those years.

Il presente contributo propone una lettura comparata delle vicende che hanno legato la Svezia allo Stato Pontificio in relazione allo sviluppo di un primo sistema di tutela del patrimonio scandinavo durante il 1600. Nell’intento di porre in dialogo la scena politica e propriamente culturale della Svezia con questioni storiche quali la Guerra dei Trent’anni, le tensioni tra cattolici e protestanti, e la necessita di costruire un’identita nazionale per il popolo svedese, viene recuperato un brano riguardante la nascita della tutela del patrimonio in Europa rimasto sostanzialmente escluso dagli interessi della piu recente storiografia artistica. Posto in relazione con le esperienze della Roma pontificia, il cosiddetto Placat per la protezione dei beni scandinavi assume un significato specifico: non piu editto di tutela “piu antico del mondo”, come ritenuto nella tradizione svedese, esso diviene iniziatore di uno dei primi istituti per la catalogazione e la ricerca archeologica in Europa. This article proposes a comparative interpretation of the events that connected Sweden to the Papal States, in regards to the establishment of an early system of protection of the Scandinavian heritage in 1600s. Aiming to relate the political and cultural scene of Sweden with historical issues – such as the Thirty Years’ War, the conflicts between Catholics and Protestants, and the need to shape a Swedish national identity – the author clarifies substantial questions on a specific aspect of the history of the heritage protection in Europe that have been generally disregarded by recent art history scholarship. Connected to the experiences of the Papacy in Rome, the so-called Placat for the preservation of Scandinavian antiquities acquires new significance: no longer accepted as the “oldest law in the world” on this subject, as a Swedish tradition used to believe, it can be regarded as the initiator of one of the earliest institutes devoted to cataloguing and archaeological research in Europe.
