The Review Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders publishes original research articles that critically examine a wide range of interdisciplinary topics related to autism spectrum disorders. The scope includes both foundational and applied areas, covering genetics, neuroscience, diagnostics, applied behavior analysis, psychopharmacology, incidence, prevalence, etiology, differential diagnosis, treatment, outcome measurement, education, perception, and cognition, among others. Topics appropriate across the entire lifespan are welcomed. Additionally, given the high prevalence of comorbidities, discussions on sleep disorders, feeding issues, motor difficulties, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and other related conditions within the autism spectrum are also suitable. As reflected by the editorial board, the journal aims to reach an international audience.

In the last 5 years, the literature on animal-assisted intervention (AAI) for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has doubled in size from 42 studies prior to 2015 to 85 studies (cumulative total assessed in 2020). Horses remain the most commonly researched animal for AAI, followed by dogs. The most commonly researched outcome was social interaction, across 21 studies. Though the quantity of studies has increased, issues with methodological rigor remain. Results highlight the need for a continued focus on methodological rigor as well as refining the structure of animal-assisted interventions, addressing the welfare needs of the animals involved, and continuing to establish an evidence base of both significant and nonsignificant findings for AAI for individuals with ASD.

Abstract Over the last decade, online dating has become the most popular method for initiating romantic connections, offering a convenient alternative to traditional dating. This scoping review aims to map the existing literature on autism and online dating. We included eight studies published between 2014 and 2023, sourced from the databases PsycInfo, PubMed, Medline, DynaMed, Psychology &amp; Behavioral Sciences Collection, and ACM Digital Library. The findings highlight that online dating platforms provide a controlled environment that can be advantageous for autistic individuals, although they face significant challenges, including difficulties with social norms and safety concerns. However, the studies were largely characterized by small convenience samples, which limits the generalizability of the findings. Research gaps remain, particularly regarding different sexual orientations and gender identities, the self-presentation of autistic females, autistic individuals’ specific aspirations on dating apps, and the role of autism-specific dating platforms.

Abstract This systematic review aimed to examine whether parental insightfulness is associated with parental sensitivity, parent and child mental health, and attachment in autistic children. Eligible articles used a quantitative research design and included participants who were parents or caregivers of a child diagnosed with autism and who completed a measure of parental insightfulness. Eight papers (six studies) met inclusion criteria. Parental insightfulness was associated with higher parental sensitivity and attachment security. No studies investigated associations between parental insightfulness and parent mental health. Although research is limited, parental insightfulness appears to be associated with parental sensitivity and child attachment in families of autistic children. More research is required to confirm whether these relationships exist cross-culturally, and with different caregivers.
