The Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (F-TS) is a catalytic-polymerization reaction that produces hydrocarbons for fuel and chemicals, by reacting synthesis gas (CO + H2) using a transition metal catalyst (Fe or Co). Iron-based F-TS can produce C2-C4 and C5-C11 hydrocarbons which are important for the production of chemicals and fuel in industry. The difficulty in developing the F-TS process is to control reaction conditions to decrease C1 selectivity while increasing the C5 + hydrocarbons. Iron-based catalysts are cheap and insensitive to sulfur compounds compared to cobalt catalysts. This review highlights the use of unsupported iron catalysts and the effect of process conditions and preparation methods in the selectivity of C1, C2-C4, and C5+ / C5-C11 via F-TS. The review further discusses the effect of various promoters, bimetallic catalysts and supports to improve catalyst properties with a specific focus on the spray-drying technology as a mechanism to decrease the deactivation of the catalysts with good attrition resistance.

Fischer-tropsch synthesis using promoted, unsupported, supported, bimetallic and spray-dried iron catalysts: A review

This study focuses on investigating the structural, electronic, mechanical, X-ray spectroscopy, optoelectronic, and the hydrogen storage properties of AHfO3 and BAgO3 (A = Cs, Ag; B = Hf, Cs) perovskites using the first-principles density function theory (DFT) approach. The optimized compounds reveals that the Lattice constant as well as total energy data of AHfO3 and BAgO3 (A = Cs, Ag; B = Hf, Cs) which was observed to be in the order of CsAgO3 > CsHfO3 > AgHfO3 > HfAgO3, has the influence of cation size and position on the lattice constant. The PDOS plot of AgHfO3 shows that Hf-5p and O-2p orbital make significant contribution to the valence band, whereas the conduction band is formed from the electronic contributions of Ag-4d and O-2p states. For CsHfO3, the PDOS plot reveals that the valence band below the Fermi energy level results from the 5p and 2p electrons of Hf and O atoms, respectively. On the other hand, the major contributions for the conduction band formation are from the 4d – Ag and 2p – O orbitals. Additionally, the dielectric function, refractive index, and extinction coefficient were calculated in the energy range of 1 – 12 eV which shows fascinating optical properties. The structure when modified by hydrogenation to AgHfH3, CsHfH3, CsAgH3, and HfAgH3 showed results suggesting their good hydrogen storage characteristics. The estimated desorption temperature of CsAgH3, HfAgH3, CsHfH3 and AgHfH3 are in the range of 351, 344, 384 and 361 °K respectively while the formation energy was observed to be in the range of -44.995 to -50.277 KJ.mol-1.H2

Quantum chemical investigation of the electronic, optoelectronic, X-ray spectroscopy, and hydrogen storage capacity of AHfO3/BAgO3 (A = Cs, Ag; B = Hf, Cs) perovskite materials

This study isolated six carboline alkaloids, (3S,4R)-1-(β-carbolin-1-yl)-3,4,5-trihydroxy-1-pentanone (1), β-carboline (2), 1-hydroxymethyl-β-carboline (3), perlolyrine (4), (1S,3S)-1-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline-3-carboxylic acid (5) and (1R,3S)-1-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline-3-carboxylic acid (6) from the leaves of Dendrobium officinale Kimura et Migo (Orchidaceae). These alkaloids, along with 14 flavonoids, vicenin-2 (7), vicenin-1 (8), isoschaftoside (9), schaftoside (10), neoschaftoside (11), violanthin (12), isoviolanthin (13), vicenin-3 (14), apigenin 6-C-α-l-arabinopyranosyl-8-C-β-d-xylopyranoside (15), vitexin 2″-O-glucoside (16), vitexin 2″-O-rhamnoside (17), rutin (18) and quercetin (19), which were previously found in D. officinale leaves by other researchers, and apigenin (20), which is the aglycone of flavone C-glycosides 7–17, were bioassayed to determine their protective effects on UVB-induced damage in human keratinocytes. Carboline alkaloids 1 and 3 and flavonoids 8 and 20 significantly increased cell viability in human keratinocytes irradiated by UVB. In a 3D skin model, compounds 1 and 8 showed promising protective effects, maintained reasonable skin structures and increased the expression of filaggrin and claudin-1, which was inhibited by UVB irradiation. The anti-UVB activities of compounds 1, 3 and 8 were reported for the first time, and these three compounds exhibit potential for application in sunscreen cosmetics.
