This paper reports the influence of halide ions on the morphology-controlled synthesis of Cu nanocrystals in the aqueous phase. Cu nanocrystals with controlled shapes, including 2D plates, 1D wires, and 3D polyhedral particles were obtained by a reduction reaction between Cu-halide and ascorbic acid, and branched polyethyleneimine (BPEI) was used as a stabilizing agent in the process. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations showed that this morphological control was caused by the selective adsorption of halide ions depending on the facets of the Cu nanocrystals. The thickness and lateral size of the Cu nanoplates were tuned easily using a co-stabilizer, the addition of Br− ions, and varying the pH of the reaction solution. Furthermore, the resulting Cu nanocrystals possessed great stability, showing very little change after exposure to the ambient atmosphere for 40 days. Overall, this synthetic procedure could be a potential method for the mass synthesis of morphology-controlled Cu nanocrystals for industrial applications because of the superior reaction conditions, such as the air atmosphere, low reaction temperature, water-phase-based synthetic condition as well as the use of nontoxic and inexpensive reagents.

Role of Halide Ions for Controlling Morphology of Copper Nanocrystals in Aqueous Solution

Abstract A variety of chalcone derivatives were synthesized via aldol condensation of diverse aldehydes with acyclic and cyclic ketones, under mild reaction conditions. Reaction yields of pure products fluctuated from 48 % to 81 %. An unusually wide range of substrates including quinolines, thiophenes, pyridines, and fluorinated compounds were synthesized for this study. Full characterization data, along with in vitro antimicrobial activity for all adducts, are herein reported. Whole cell growth inhibition assays against staphylococcus aureus , escherichia coli , klebsiella pneumonia , a cinetobacter baumannii , pseudomonas aeruginosa , candida albicans and c ryptococcus neoformans var. grubii were performed employing all synthesized compounds ( 3a–m ).

Direct Synthesis and Antimicrobial Evaluation of Structurally Complex Chalcones

Abstract Identification of efficient cathode materials represents a huge challenge for development of reversible Mg‐ion batteries (MIBs). Herein, we report on the preparation of copper molybdenum sulfide (Cu 2 MoS 4 ) in a novel microstructure, namely nanotube with the square‐cross‐section, and its use as a cathode material for Mg‐ion battery. The Cu 2 MoS 4 nanotube was prepared via a one‐pot hydrothermal method using Cu 2 O nanocubes as a sacrificial template. The Cu 2 MoS 4 nanotube belongs to the top‐tier MIBs cathode materials that shows a remarkable specific capacity of 390.5 mAh g −1 .

Abstract In recent years naturally resourced materials have played a significant role in many applications ranging from biomedical to automotive applications. Among them, lignin has received much attention towards these applications owing to its abundance and readily modified chemical structures. Recent research studies have focused on various chemical modifications of lignin, including the increasingly popular Mannich reaction that aminates the lignin structure to expand the applicability of lignin in advanced fields. This article reviews the recent Mannich reaction‐based lignin developments with different types of amines used in lignin modifications and discusses how the reaction enhances functionality in engineering, biomedical and environmental technology applications.

Mannich Reaction: Review of Amine‐Functionalized Lignin Derivatives and Their Applications

Abstract Porous tin oxide and reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite is prepared by in situ growth tin oxide (SnO 2 ) nanoparticles on the surface of well reduced graphene oxide (rGO) under hydrothermal condition followed by annealing treatment. The SnO 2 nanoparticles are crystallized and uniform with the sizes of about 4–8 nm, the rGO matrix is constructed by 7–8 monosheets of graphene, and there are C−O‐Sn bonds between the SnO 2 and rGO matrix. The resultant A‐SnO 2 /rGO (annealed SnO 2 and rGO) nanocomposite has a large specific surface area of 161.8 m 2 g −1 with the pore size distribution mainly in the micropore and small mesopore ranges (1‐11 nm). Used as the anode of lithium ion battery, the A‐SnO 2 /rGO electrode may deliver a high initial discharge capacity of 1871.3 mAh g −1 at 0.1 C, presenting its large specific capacity property. When the current density enhances to 5 C, a good discharge capacity of 262.2 mAh g −1 can be obtained, showing its superior rate capability. A fascinating large discharge capacity of 885.2 mAh g −1 may be obtained after 150 cycles at 0.1 C and a discharge capacity of 414.2 mAh g −1 can be gotten after 300 cycles at 1 C, indicating its excellent cyclic stability.

Porous A‐SnO2/rGO Nanocomposite via Annealing Treatment with Stable High‐Capacity as Anode of Lithium‐Ion Battery

Abstract This study investigates a unique and energy‐efficient BaS3:Sb2S3:GdS 2 nanocomposite chalcogenide system that was made using a single source dithiocarbamate precursor route. The produced dithiocarbamate metallic sulfide has an average crystallite size of 17.38 nm and a small band gap of 3.76 eV. An examination of functional groups revealed the existence of several linkages, including the metal sulfide bond. Morphologically, BaS 3 :Sb 2 S 3 :GdS 2 appeared as elongated rods showing greater surface area for electrochemical activity. By constructing a nickel foam electrode and covering it with a slurry of BaS 3 :Sb 2 S 3 :GdS 2 , the electrochemical charge‐storing behavior of BaS 3 :Sb 2 S 3 :GdS 2 was assessed. Prepared electrode exhibited auspicious electrical charge storage capacities with a specific capacitance reaching upto 633.32 F g −1 . These findings suggest that there is a significant amount of potential for energy storage in the electrode. This electrode also exhibited a reduced series resistance of ( R s ) = 0.31 Ω according to the impedance experiments, and a specific power density of 9109.16 W kg −1 . In terms of electrocatalysis, the electrode produced oxygen production overpotential and corresponding Tafel slope of 334 mV and 366 mV dec −1 , whereas the hydrogen production overpotential and Tafel slope were 229 mV and 175 mV dec −1 , correspondingly.

Abstract This study comprises the production and characterization of multifunctional silica nanoparticles and their incorporation into Nafion for proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) applications. A two‐step method was used to produce Azole‐SiO 2 /Nafion; First, epoxy functional SiO 2 nanoparticles were functionalized with 5‐Amino‐Tetrazole (Tet‐SiO 2 ), 3‐Amino‐1,2,4‐Triazole (ATri‐SiO 2 ), and 1H‐1,2,4‐Triazole (Tri‐SiO 2 ) via ring opening of the epoxy unit. After the synthesis of functional nanoparticles, Nafion composite membranes were prepared via the mechanical mixing method. Azole‐SiO 2 /Nafion composite membranes were characterized by FT‐IR, and TGA were used to investigate the structural thermal properties, and the results indicated that they were thermally stable up to approximately 380 °C. The anhydrous conductivity of the Nafion composite membranes were studied by a dielectric impedance analyzer and maximum conductivity was measured for N‐SiO 2 ‐Tet10 as 1.01 × 10 −2 (Scm −1 ) at 160 °C.

Enhancement of Proton Transport in Nafion Membranes via Azol Functional Silica Nanoparticles for PEMFC Applications

Abstract Present study aimed to develop an eco‐friendly protocol for the synthesis of diverse structure of 3,4‐dihydropyrimidin‐2(1H)‐one/thione via one‐pot transesterification–multicomponent reaction using silica‐supported boric acid (H 3 BO 3 ‐SiO 2 ) as catalyst. This one‐pot trans‐esterification of commercially available β ‐ketoesters such as methyl or ethyl acetoacetate followed by multicomponent reactions with aldehydes and urea or thiourea under solvent‐free conditions at 100 °C afforded diverse structures of DHPM's. The catalyst used in the reaction can be recycled without significant loss of its activity which was verified by comparing SEM‐EDX micrographs of freshly prepared catalyst with the recycled one. The notable features of the present protocol are its ease‐of‐use, wide substrate scope, mild reaction conditions, most simplified work‐up process, less hazardous catalysts and so on. Thus, in our opinion, the present methodology is a superior and more practical greener route for the production of dihydropyrimidinones/thiones of biological importance.

Silica Supported Boric Acid (H3BO3‐SiO2): An Extravagant Catalyst for One‐Pot Transesterification‐Biginelli Reaction Under Solvent‐Free Condition

Abstract Noble metal‐based electrocatalysts are impractical for large‐scale manufacture due to their high cost, limited availability, and poor long‐term stability in performing several functions. Hence, an alternative is the need of the hour that emphasizes blending metals and ceramic property materials with compelling electroconductivity. In this research, we synthesized two bare materials, Nb 2 AlC MAX (Nb‐MX) phase and graphitic carbon‐nitride (GCN) sheets using the calcination method which is then converted into a composite (Nb‐MX/GCN) material through wet impregnation technique. The electrochemical investigations were conducted to assess the catalytic efficacy of the composite material. The synthesized Nb‐MX/GCN electrocatalyst exhibited outstanding electrocatalytic efficiency for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an alkaline environment. The catalyst exhibits a significantly low overpotential of just 66 mV and 450 mV for the HER and OER performance, respectively, at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 in a 1.0 M KOH solution. In addition, the catalytic activity exhibited no change over 24 h which indicated the excellent stability of the material. This performance surpassed the previously reported electrocatalysts.

Investigation of Nb2AlC Max Phase Integrated With 2D GCN (Nb‐MX/GCN) as a Bifunctional Electrocatalyst for Water Splitting Reaction

Abstract The asymmetric construction of a quaternary fluorine‐containing stereogenic carboncenter is highly valuable for the development of fluoroine‐containing bioactive molecules. Herein, a base‐promoted, diastereoselective Mannich‐type reaction of 2‐aryloxy‐2‐fluoroketones with N ‐( tert ‐butylsulfinyl)imines has been developed. A number of the addition products featuring a fluorinated quaternary stereocarbon centre and a β‐fluoroamine structural motif have been readily obtained in good yields with moderate to good diastereoselectivities. The absolute configuration of the major diasteromer was determined by X‐ray crystallography analysis, and a closed transition‐state mode was proposed to explain the stereochemical outcome of this reaction. In addition, the addition product was efficiently converted into a α‑fluoro‐β‐amino alcohol through desulfinylation followed by reduction of the carbonyl group.
