GMS Journal for Medical Education (GMS J Med Educ) – formerly known as GMS Zeitschrift für Medizinische Ausbildung – publishes scientific articles on all aspects of undergraduate and graduate education in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and other health professions. We welcome submissions of research and review articles, project reports, short communications, as well as discussion papers and comments. There is a special emphasis on empirical studies that are methodologically sound and yield results relevant beyond the specific institution, profession, or country. We encourage both qualitative and quantitative studies, and especially welcome submissions from students. The mission of GMS Journal for Medical Education is to advance scientific knowledge in German-speaking countries and internationally, thereby fostering the improvement of teaching and learning and building an evidence base for undergraduate and graduate education. To this end, the journal has established an editorial board composed of international experts. All submitted manuscripts undergo a clearly structured peer review process. All articles are published bilingually in English and German and are available with unrestricted open access, making GMS Journal for Medical Education accessible to a broad international readership. The journal is published as an unrestricted open access journal with at least four issues per year, and special issues on current topics in medical education research are also published. Until 2015, the journal was published under its German name GMS Zeitschrift für Medizinische Ausbildung. By changing its name to GMS Journal for Medical Education, we aim to emphasize our international mission.

Those examples are references to articles in scholarly journals and how they are supposed to appear in your bibliography.

Not all journals organize their published articles in volumes and issues, so these fields are optional. Some electronic journals do not provide a page range, but instead list an article identifier. In a case like this it's safe to use the article identifier instead of the page range.
