The natural spread of various harmful organisms into the environment has resulted in a wide range of diseases worldwide, including in Bangladesh. In December 2019, the world was exposed to a new virus-mediated sickness known as coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), which has mostly afflicted mainland China but has thereafter quickly spread to all the continents. The ongoing pandemic has taken the lives of more than 4.5 million people out of more than 10 million confirmed COVID-19 cases as of August 22, 2021. With an increase in infection and fatality rates, Dhaka, has become the most vulnerable to COVID-19. To deal with the emergency, the government of Bangladesh has imposed different measures including lockdown in various stages. The colossal effort of the government of Bangladesh deserves a standing ovation in order to mitigate the situation timely. Based on the current circumstances, it is undeniable that the situation will not be alleviated despite the government's sincere efforts and enforcement of rules unless the country's citizens are aware and willing to follow the prescribed prevention and control measures. This literature review compiles and summarizes the morphology, mechanism, current status, likely therapies, and preventative strategies for this novel coronavirus strain in Bangladesh.&#x0D; Bangladesh Journal of Infectious Diseases, April 2022;9(Suppl_1): S28-S39

Social Perspectives of COVID-19 Pandemic in Bangladesh: A Review

Background: Different adaptation and changes have been practiced during COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: In this paper we investigated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on service delivery in the department of interventional neurology and adaptation of the department to the changed environment. Methodology: This was a retrospective analysis of diagnostic digital subtraction angiography (DSA) procedures done from January 2018 to December 2020 and were analyzed to detect significant breaks in time trend. Results: A total of 358, 426 and 251 patients got admitted for DSA in consecutive three years from 2018 to 2020 respectively. There was a sudden drop in the number of DSA procedures from 30 to 50 patients per month in the pre-COVID era before March 2020 to less than 10 patients per month during the COVID period of March to June 2020. However, the situation gradually improved following the introduction of RT-PCR test for SARS CoV-2 in June 2020. A poison regression showed a significant increase in monthly DSA procedures in the year 2019 compared to the year 2018, but a significant decrease in the pandemic year of 2020. Conclusion: By incorporating COVID-19 testing as a pre-requisite test before DSA procedures, the department of interventional neurology recovered from experiencing a significant drop in the number of performed DSA procedures in the initial periods of the pandemic to reaching a level observed in the pre-COVID era. Effect of Temperature on the Adaptability of SARS-CoV2 in Environment

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 which at the beginning of 2020 started a global pandemic. During the pandemic, multiple medications have emerged to treat it, however, the best way to control this calamity is through the prevention giben y vaccines. This review has the aim of understanding the immune response triggered by SARS-CoV-2 and the strategies used by vaccines to fight it during the COVID-19 pandemic. The search was made in PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus using “SARS-CoV- 2”, “COVID-19”, “vaccines”, “immune response”, and “infection” as keywords, then 120 articles were selected. The challenge posed by SARS-Cov-2 infection has been addressed with the development of effective vaccines in a short time, additionally, some of them are innovative such as RNA vaccines. However, phase 3 trials indicate variations by population group that have had to be adjusted for the vaccine to be effective in different parts of the world. Marburg virus is a deadly and contagious virus that has already become an outbreak in several countries. This letter evaluates the preparedness of South Asian countries for a potential outbreak of the virus, and link it with public health framework, laboratory capacity, surveillance and response system, policy and guideline, and public awareness. It is indicated that the level of preparedness for Marburg virus and other similar diseases in South Asian countries is inadequate, with most countries lacking the necessary framework, policies, and guidelines for effective deterrence and restraint of infectious diseases. There is an urgent need for action to strengthen preparedness and response efforts in the region, including the development of comprehensive policies and guidelines, collaboration between different agencies and departments, and increased public awareness of infectious diseases. The Readiness of South Asian Countries Against Marburg Virus Outbreaks: A Perspective

Background: Intrauterine pathologies in animals are a significant cause of reduced reproductive performance and symptomatic infertility, leading to economic losses in the livestock industry. Early diagnosis of these conditions is critical for effective treatment and management. Objective: The study aimed to develop a method for the early diagnosis of intrauterine pathologies in animals by assessing nitric oxide (NO) levels using Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Methodology: An experimental model was created using dairy Escherichia coli culture, which was injected into the uterus of pregnant rabbits under ultrasound guidance. Determination of the level of nitric oxide was accessed in the laboratories of the FSSI "Federal Research Center for Chemical Physics named after. N.N. Semenov" Russian Academy of Sciences. The study involved three groups of rabbits: two groups infected either intrauterine or intraperitoneally, and a control group. Group I (Intrauterine Infection) consisted of two rabbits. A suspension of Escherichia coli was injected directly into the uterus through the cervical canal to induce an intrauterine infection. Group II (Intraperitoneal Infection): This group included five rabbits. The Escherichia coli suspension was administered intraperitoneally, serving as a comparative model for systemic infection. Group III (Control): The remaining two rabbits served as the control group. These rabbits were not infected and were used to establish baseline measurements for comparison. Results: The results demonstrated that the concentration of nitric oxide derivatives, specifically nitrites and N-nitrosamines (RNNO), significantly increased in the blood plasma of infected rabbits compared to the control group. These changes were observed during the early stages of inflammation, indicating the onset of intrauterine pathologies. Conclusion: The developed method based on measuring nitric oxide derivatives in blood plasma is effective for the early diagnosis of intrauterine pathologies in animals. Nitric Oxide Acts as an Early Diagnostic Tool for Intrauterine Diseases in Animal Health

Background: Infertility is a global health issue implicated to sociocultural, environmental, health care practice and genetic factors in both male and female individuals. Oligozoospermic and azoospermic conditions reported to be associated with Y chromosome microdeletions (YCDs) in various loci. Objective: The purpose of the present study was to investigate Y chromosome microdeletions in azoospermic individuals attending fertility clinics, focusing on the SRY239, SRY242, and SRY254 alleles. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Physiology and Molecular Biology at Bangladesh University of Health Sciences, Dhaka, Bangladesh involving 20 infertile males. Appropriate procedures were followed to address ethical aspects. Demographic and clinical data were collected using structured questionnaire. One milliliter blood sample was collected for DNA extraction and downstream analysis. AZFc markers SY239, SY242 and SY254 alleles were determined by standard polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Data were expressed as number (percent) and figures as appropriate. A value &lt; 0.05 was taken as level of significant. Results: Age (years) range of the 20 adult infertile azoospermic male was 25-50 with mean (±SD) 39 ±8. Of the 20 subjects 15 (75%) was smoker, 5 (25%) hypertensive and 2 (10%) diabetic. By profession their distribution includes day labors 4 (20%), businessman 8 (40%), garments workers 4 (20%), hawker 2 (10%) and teacher 2 (10%). Among 2 (10%) garments workers show their AZFc fragments deletions. Of the 20 men, azoospermia factor region (AZFc) SRY239 and SRY254 allele deletion were present in 4 individuals. The AZFc variant allele SRY242 was normal in all 20 men. Of the 4 individual present the SRY239 and SRY254 2 were obese. Conclusion: Y-chromosome microdeletion AZFc region allele markers SRY239 and SRY254 are present in azoospermic male but the AZFc SRY242 was of wild type. Presence of candidate allele detection did not show any relationship with study variables possibly due to small number of samples. To reach conclusive finding of AZFc mutations affecting male infertility, study need to be confirmed by recruiting substantial number of cases and carrying out the investigation at the early stage. Study on Y- Chromosome Microdeletion of AZFc sY239, sY242 and sY254 Loci among Bangladeshi Infertile Male

Background: Bangladesh has suffered a lot corona virus disease 2019 (COVID 19), but clinical data on COVID 19 is fewer still. Objective: The purpose of the present study was to determine the patterns of clinical characteristics of confirmed COVID 19 patients in Sylhet to contribute as information resource of our country. Methodology: This cross sectional study was conducted in the inpatient Department of Medicine of Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital, Sylhet, Bangladesh to evaluate the clinical characteristics among the COVID 19 patients from July 2020 to December 2020 by purposive sampling technique. For the purpose a total 75 RT PCR positive COVID 19 patients were included in the study and data were collected with a semi-structured questionnaire. Results: The results showed that,85.3%% patients presented with fever, 46.7% with cough and 38.7.0% with dyspnoea. On examination 85.3% had fever, 38.7% had tacypnea, 38.7% had low SpO2 at room temperature, 57.3% had vesicular breath sound. Lab investigations (biochemical) mostly needed at admission for management of the patients were complete blood count (CBC) in 93.3% case, c reactive protein (CRP) in 76.0% case, D-dimer in 68.0% case, random blood sugar (RBS) in 56.0% case, serum creatinine in 54.7%, serum ferritin in 42.7%, serum electrolytes in 42.7%, electro cardiogram (ECG) in 38.7%. According to clinical classification for case management of COVID 19 58.7%, 21.3%, 16%, 2.7%, 1.3% were successively diagnosed as mild, moderate, severe, asymptomatic and critical COVID 19 infection. Among the study population 80.0% patient was in need of antibiotic, 60.0% anti coagulant, 48.0% steroid, 38.7% oxygen, 2.7% antiviral drugs, 1.3% mechanical ventilation during their treatment. Conclusion: The results obtained from this study could urge more study on it to provide updated knowledge as well as find potential treatment strategies for this pandemic disease.
