The study ascertained principals’ leadership practices for successful achievement of secondary education goals in Anambra State. The study was guided by three research questions. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised all the 263 principals in the state government owned schools in Anambra State. They were all used for the study. Data was collected using a 33-item researchers’ developed instrument titled “Principals Leadership Practices Questionnaire”. Data analysis was done using arithmetic mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions. The findings revealed that principals’ administrative, curriculum and disciplinary roles are the leadership practices for successful achievement of secondary education goals. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that State Education Board should develop and equip principals in administrative, curriculum and disciplinary management skills

This paper focus on how adult literacy education and community development are explored to determine how adult literacy education might be used to further the goals of community development in Akampa Local Government Area of Cross River State. While there are parallels between these two disciplines, there are also barriers to overcome if an integrated approach to dealing with community issues is realized. This paper reflected an interest in advancing a comprehensive approach to community development in communities with limited economic resources, low-level literacy and limited access. It seeks to address the issue of whether adult literacy education programs have a meaningful role to play in community development. The strengths of participatory approaches such as community-based literacy, and community development principles such as collective action, shared values, participation, social justice, political awareness and action, comprehensiveness, empowerment, and learning and reflection, facilitate an interdisciplinary approach. putting these three perspectives sought to stimulate and provoke the adult learner to critically analyse issues around him/her and be able to suggest practical solutions that will lead to his/her personal development and that of the rural community, all within the cultural setting. promotes confidence as an individual in a modern society, and as a member of a national and world community

Counselling Adult Leaner for Community Participation in Development of Literacy Centers in Akampa Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria

The study investigated organizational pride as correlate of teachers' job effectiveness in public secondary schools in Imo State. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The population of the study was 5,364 teachers while the sample size consisted of 3,284 teachers selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected through a 15-item structured questionnaire that comprised two clusters. Cluster A dealt with the existence of organizational pride while cluster B considered the influence of organizational pride on teachers' job effectiveness. The instrument was validated by three experts, two from the Department of Educational Management and Policy and one from the Department of Educational Foundation, all from the Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The reliability of the instrument was obtained through Cronbach Alpha with a weighted average of 0.86 which was considered high enough for be study. Mean and standard Deviation were used to answer the research questions while T-Test statistics was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 significant level. The study found out among others that organizational pride does not exist among teachers in public secondary schools in Imo State. The recommendation among others is that Imo State Government through the Ministry of Education should improve the welfare of teachers and their general conditions of service as this will make teachers happy and proud of their work

Organizational Pride as Correlate of Teachers' Job Effectiveness in Public Secondary Schools in Imo State

This paper discusses reported incidence of domestic violence in Nigeria, the different forms of abuse which may occur in the home and the devastating consequences on the individuals involve and the society at large. Some of the predisposing factors of domestic violence are discussed and counselling, prevention and remedial are proffered ugly situation, Women experience more chronic and injurious physical assaults at the hands of intimate partners than men do. It was found that women who were physically assaulted by an intimate partner are men in their averaged age. Violence perpetrated against women by intimates is often accompanied by emotionally abusive and controlling behavior. The study found that women whose partners were jealous, controlling, or verbally abusive were significantly more likely to report being raped, physically assaulted, and/or being raped, physically assaulted, and/or stalked by a male cohabitant. These findings, combined with those presented in the previous bullet, provide further evidence that intimate partner violence is perpetrated primarily by men, whether against male or female intimates. Thus, strategies for preventing intimate partner violence should focus on risks posed by men. Some studies conclude that women and men are equally likely to be victimized by their partners, but others conclude that women are more likely to be victimized. Some studies conclude that minorities and whites suffer equal rates of intimate partner violence, and others conclude that minorities suffer higher rates.

Exploring Community Counselling on Violence against Women, Rape, Divorce and Domestic Violence in Cross River State Nigeria

This article focuses on an analysis of Paul Feyerabend’s incommensurability theory. Paul Feyerabend and Thomas Kuhn are the proponents of incommensurability theory in contemporary philosophy of science, though their views on incommensurability thesis are not exactly the same. Incommensurability theory is one of the major contributions of Paul Feyerabend in philosophy of science. The fundamental questions are: What actually does Feyerabend mean by incommensurability of fundamental scientific theories? Do the meanings of scientific concepts change when scientific theories change? Do scientific theories affect the meanings of scientific concepts? How does Feyerabend’s incommensurability theory differ from that of Thomas Kuhn? Has Feyerabend’s incommensurability theory any implication for scientific development? What are the strengths and weaknesses of Feyerabend’s incommensurability theory? These and other related issues are the central focus of this article. Employing basically analytical method, this article examines Feyerabend’s incommensurability theory. This study discovers that Feyerabend’s incommensurability theory has both relationship of similarity and dissimilarity with that of Kuhn, and at the same time has implications for scientific development. It also argues that Feyerabend’s idea leads to relativism and subjectivism. The researcher concludes that though Feyerabend’s incommensurability theory has some shortcomings, Feyerabend is a force to reckon with in contemporary philosophy of science as a result of his innovations and revolutionary ideas in the discipline.

Gender equity in education generates a push force that accelerates progress across sectors and goals; thus national development. Gender equality constitutes central position in both national and international programmes as an accelerator for achieving development. Women’s place in national development appears subordinated. Thus, this study examined gender equity in education in Nigeria and the impact on national development. Specifically, the study sought to determine the degree of women access to education, ascertain the impact of women education on socio-economic development determine the factors that constitute barriers to women education in Nigeria, the consequences of low women access to education and benefits of gender equity and women in education. The study discovered that educated women serve as stabilizing factor in national development and recommended ‘cultural rebirth, smart economic, new education content and soft competition technique’ as the approach that will grant women the needed equity in national development in Nigeria.

With the emergence of the Bola Tinubu administration on May 29, 2023 in Nigeria, one of the first policies embarked upon was the removal of fuel subsidy and subsequent increase of domestic pump price of petrol to an average of N600.00/liter. This has resulted in massive hue and cry on the social media, where some have alleged that the fuel subsidy is indeed a lie, while others have insinuated and alleged that the recent increase of the pump price of petrol is at the instance of the advice by World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). However, it is believed that Government exists to make policies for the common good of the people it governs and to manage the satisfaction of the Political, Economic and Social concerns of the economy. Since governance has to do with the people and their welfare, it requires a good leader who is capable of listening to the people in addition to being aided by capable institutions with expertise and capacity with well trained personnel. Is this the case in Nigeria? It is believed that extant policy advice to developing economies by International organizations are based on quantitative tools and paradigms that are either subjective or are partial in their analysis and therefore their prescriptions become counter-productive and self-defeating. This study is a bold attempt to use the total differential systems modeling approach (ecostatometrics) to analyze the true consequences and implications of the new policy of domestic petrol pump price increase on the Nigerian economy as a whole. The result is that the whole economy will be depressed given the two options considered. Output of all sectors will fall and all incomes and consumption will also fall. Nigeria as a nation over the years has continued to crave for Human Capital Development. This is because the Development of Human Capital is critical for the Economic Growth and Sustainable Development of any nation. Since it is the Human person who spearheads any developmental strive of any nation, the need for the Development of Human Capital is indispensable, using the tools of analysis, the paper submitted that religion could serve as a tool for Human capital development in the Contemporary Nigerian Society, because as an institution, it has the potential train and equip the Human person as the agent of Development. It further analyses the possible ways Religion can be harnessed to promote Human Capital Development to include moral instructions, sermons, ethical teachings, training of clergy and religious functionaries, establishment of schools, and through healthcare delivery. The paper concludes that if Religion is given its proper place, it would fulfill this sublime role of developing the Human Capital. It proffers some practical suggestions that would help Nigeria as a nation achieve the target of Human Capital Development. These suggestions are taken as recommendations. Religion: Panacea to Human Capital Development in the Contemporary Nigerian Society

The paper is aimed at reducing pre-operative anxiety in adult patients. Pre-operative anxiety is the fear or anxiety experienced by patient preparing for surgery. The study was a descriptive survey research design. It was guided by one research question. The population of the study was 238 doctors and nurses working in the surgical wards of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Amaku, Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria. The entire population was used for the study. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire. The instrument was validated by two experts from the Department of Adult and Continuing Education and Science Education respectively, all from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Data collected were analysed using Mean statistics and Standard deviation. The findings of the study show that all the twelve items except two were accepted as strategies for reducing pre-operative anxiety of adult patients. The respondents disagreed with” helping patient to accept that he is anxious”(2.48) and” massaging of patients hand before surgery” (2.49) ,as strategies for reducing anxiety. Based on the findings, it was recommended that surgical teams should take it, as a matter of duty, to explain to patient every bits of procedure they want to carry out on a patient

Strategies For Reducing Anxiety in Pre-Operative Adult Patients

Although both researchers and practitioners are aware that an employee's performance changes during the course of a work, this personal variable and job performance variability is poorly understood and is frequently viewed as error. In the current study, which aimed to investigate the significant influence of personal variable on health workers job performance. Three objectives, research questions and hypothesis was raised for the study. Stratified sampling technique was used to select 118 health workers that was used for the study. The result of the findings was that gender, years of experience and health workers highest educational significantly influenced the health workers job performance. In conclusion, health workers employee who wish to have maximum performance from the staffs should make sure to employ staffs with the right qualification. Finally it was recommended that health workers should try as much as possible to work on the personal factors so as to be very productive in their place of work or assignment.
