A new sorbent was provided and exerted for separation and preconcentration of Pb (II) before the determination of lead ions by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The normative studies on extraction, separation and preconcetration of Pb (II) were represented in the present work. This novel method was based on new sorbent by adding diethylenetriamine to sawdust and increasing incidence exterior. The effect of different parameters were studied; such as pH, ligand concentration and sample volume, type and volume of eluent and ligand effect. The optimum pH and preconcentration factor and limit of detection for Pb (II) were 4, 100 and 0.48 µg/L, respectively. Furthermore, in this approach calibration curve was linear in the range of 0.05-100 mg mL-1 with R2 = 0.995. The vertical and horizontal confines of calibration diagrams in 500 mL solution were calculated about 0-0.5 mg L-1 and 0-0.6. The results of applying the present  method to determinate the separated lead ions in water samples were prosperous and harmonious. Precision of the method was investigated by comparing them with observations from previous similar researches.

Application of modified sawdust for solid phase extraction, preconcentration and determination of trace lead in water samples

This study concerns the removal of acid blue-15 (AB-15) from water using chitosan through the batch sorption. To get the best percentage of removal, several experimental parameters have been used such as the initial concentration, temperature, and pH. The results show that the pH of the interaction medium does not indicate a significant influence in the adsorption process. In addition, the percentage of removal increased with the increase of dosage of chitosan and temperature of the reaction vessel. Furthermore, the percentage of removal decreases with the increase in the initial concentration of the AB-15 solution. The adsorption of AB-15 on the chitosan fits better with the Freundlich (R2= 0.998) than the Langmuir model. The adsorption kinetics follows the pseudo-first order (R2> 0.998) but not the pseudo-second-order model. The obtained results of this study show that chitosan has a potential application as a membrane to remove the AB-15 from industrial effluents.

Removal the acid blue-15 dye from water by chitosan: kinetic and thermodynamic study

In this work, TiO2-graphene/chitosan nanocomposite with high photocatalytic activity was successfully synthesized and characterized by various analyses such as XRD, TEM, SEM, EDX and DRS. The photocatalytic activity was tested vs. removal of methyl red as ananionic dye under black light radiation. Based on the results, TiO2-graphene/chitosan nanocomposite could effectively remove methyl red, and demonstrate an excellent photocatalytic enhancement over TiO2 and TiO2-graphene samples. The degradation reaction fit well to a Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic model implying that the reaction rate is depended on the initial adsorption step. An artificial neural network (ANN) comprising four input variables (TiO2-graphene/chitosan dosage, initial dye concentration, reaction time and temperature of the solution), eight neurons and an output variable (Removal efficiency %) was optimized, tested and validated for methyl red degradation by the prepared TiO2-graphene/chitosan nanocomposite. The results showed that the predicted data from the designed ANN model are in good agreement with the experimental data with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.9831. Based on the results, reaction time is the most influential variable and the temperature of solution is the less influential parameter in the removal efficiency of methyl red.

TiO2-graphene/chitosan nanocomposite: preparation and its application for removal of anionic dyes

The reverse water gas shift reaction over the prepared tungsten carbide alloy (WC/AC) from date palm fronds catalyst was studied by CO2 hydrogenation, temperature-programmed reduction of the WC/AC catalyst. In comparison to the reaction of CO2 alone, hydrogen can significantly promote the CO formation in the RWGS reaction. The formate derived from association of H2 and CO2 is proposed to be the key intermediate for CO production. Formate dissociation mechanism is the major reaction route for CO production. The reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction over WC/AC with potassium (K) promoter was studied by means of CO2 hydrogenation at temperature programmed. The main role of Potassium oxide (K2O) was to provide catalytic activity for decomposition of formats, besides acting as a promoter for CO2 adsorption. Hydrogen was dissociatively adsorbed on WC/AC and could spill over to K2O to associate with CO2. This resulted in the formation of formate species for the production of CO.

In this work, we utilized various iron salts {Fe(NO3)3, FeSO4 and FeCl3} at the presence of aqueous solutions of NiCl2 and NaOH, respectively, to prepare NiFe2O4/NaCl nanocomposites using wet chemical co-precipitation. The dark-brown products were afterwards calcined for 3 h at 600 °C. All products were characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). XRD results confirmed formation of the NiFe2O4/NaCl nanocomposites. The TEM results revealed that the particles are relatively similar in cube-like shape; however, the size was distinct.

Facile preparation of NiFe2O4/NaCl nanocomposites by wet chemical co-precipitation

通过湿化学共沉淀法制备NiFe2O4/NaCl纳米复合材料的简易方法

In this research study, a nano-CuO-CeO2 catalyzed environmentally benign strategy for the preparation of bis(indolyl)methane derivatives via the three-component reaction between indoles and aldehyde in aqueous media under reflux conditions in excellent yields was established. The structure of the prepared compounds was confirmed using IR, 1H-NMR. The elemental analysis and morphology of the catalyst was characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results revealed that this synthetic reaction is very simple and bis(indolyl)methane derivatives produced with good yields compared to other articles. The advantages of this method include catalyst recovery, high efficiency, and easy operation method. The highest efficiency (96%) in a short time (15 min) was obtained, which is very important compared to other previous methods presented.

Pseudo-three component reaction of indole with benzaldehyde derivatives for the preparation of bis(indolyl)methanes in the presence of nano-CuO-CeO2

Mechanism of decarboxylation reaction includes, metal catalyst with Ag+, a radical path and oxidative decarboxylation have been investigated. The calculations have been done in two different B3LYP/LANL2DZ, and WB97XD/DGDZVP/ DEF2DTZV levels. Four structures have been proposed for oxidized benzoic acid. Among four possible oxidative structures only one structure with 62.99 kcal.mol-1 activation energy could lead to the decarboxylative product. Silver catalyzed decarboxylation leads to products in one step. The activation energy for this path have been determined to be 43.31 kcal.mol­-1. The radical path for decarboxylation needs 16.93 kcal.mol-1 although for radical creation it needs at least 100.12 kcal.mol-1 energy.

Density functional theory study of benzoic acid decarboxylation

Plant phytochemicals appeared to be a promising tool to address resistance and environmental problems posed by synthetic insecticides. This study explored the larvicidal effects, and synergistic toxicity of Ficus sycomorus and Calotropis procera leaves on African malaria vector, Anopheles species sourced from agricultural fields in Kano-Nigeria. The qualitative and quantitative phytochemicals were determined using standard methods. Late third Instar larvae (L3) of Anopheles mosquitoes were subjected to bioassay at various concentrations (0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0 mg/mL) of ethanol extracts using the WHO standard protocol with some modifications. The synergistic potential was predicted using mathematical model. The extract of F. sycomorus revealed the highest concentration of flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and phenols, while C. procera extract had high concentration of glycosides and tannins. However, only alkaloids concentrations (15.41 mg/mL and 7.7 mg/mL) was statistically significant between the two plants (p 0.05) on Anopheles larvae than F. sycomorus extract (LC50=1.01 mg/mL; ꭓ2=0.920; 95% confidence limit, CI: 0.50-2.05; p>0.05). The binary combination (concentration LC25:LC25) of the two plants produced promising results of higher mortality than individual highest extract concentrations (LC50=0.38 mg/mL; ꭓ2=0.72; 95% confidence limits, CI: 0.23-0.61; p>0.05) due to possibly synergistic effect of the two plants (X2=13.33). The percentage mortalities in all the crude extracts tested were concentration dependent. It is evident from this study that crude extracts of F. sycomorus and C. procera have promising individual and synergistic larvicidal bioactivities and hence, can be employed in integrated approach for vectors resistance management.

Several corrosion inhibitors have been used in industry to eliminate the corrosive influence of harsh hydrochloric acid solutions on the mechanical behavior of copper structures. Recently, expired drug products as corrosion inhibitor have been developed to replace the organic compounds (synthesized) which are expensive and toxic molecules. In this work, the expired nontoxic Ofloxacin drug is used to study the its effectiveness as a corrosion inhibitor for copper metal in 5 M HCl solution with the aid of weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, AC impedance spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies. The weight loss results demonstrated that, 4 mg/L of expired Ofloxacin drug was the optimum concentration for inhibition of copper corrosion in acidic system. Tafel plot results revealed the mixed corrosion inhibition property of expired Ofloxacin drug. AC impedance spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope (SEM) results well supported the weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization results.
