Introduction: This research aimed to study the impact of initial anatomical conditions on decision-making for subantral augmentation in a single tooth gap and to compare the clinical efficiency of closed hydrodynamic sinus lift and lateral sinus floor augmentation (LSFA) for single tooth restoration. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 96 patients who underwent subantral augmentation with simultaneous implantation in a single tooth gap. Patients were divided: 50 in the “Open” LSFA group and 46 in the “Closed” hydrodynamic lift group. A two-stage protocol was applied, with data on age, intervention site, implant dimensions, and bone height analyzed. Results: Mean residual bone height differed: 3.341 ± 1.433 mm in “Open” and 4.437 ± 1.741 mm in “Closed” ( p = 0.001). Median bone height post-surgery was 9.5 mm in “Open” and 8.5 mm in “Closed” ( p = 0.0031), with significant bone height increase ( p &lt; 0.00001). No implant or graft removals were needed. Conclusion: Residual alveolar ridge height, cortical bone thickness, and sinus wall thickness are key criteria in selecting a protocol. Both techniques achieved effective results, even with initial bone heights below 5 mm. LSFA led to greater bone height increase, while both approaches provide reliable options for stable implant integration.

Closed (hydrodynamic) versus open (lateral sinus floor) subantral augmentation for single tooth replacement: criteria of decision-making and clinical efficacy

Introduction: Plasmablastic lymphoma is a rare and aggressive malignancy derived from a B cell lineage. It has a predilection for extranodal sites, particularly arises de novo in the oral cavity. Underlying immune deficiency is a well-established factor, as most cases are associated with HIV infection or posttransplant patients. Observation: A 55-year-old man presented with a large, painful, multi-lobulated, bluish-purplish mass on the right posterior maxillary gingiva and was initially misdiagnosed as a dental abscess. He was married with three children and had no known risk for immune deficiency. The histopathological diagnosis revealed a plasmablastic lymphoma lesion, which subsequently led to the establishment of the patient's HIV positive status. Conclusions: From a histopathology perspective, HIV testing is warranted in a patient who has been diagnosed with plasmablastic lymphoma despite having a negative history of HIV, transmission risk or exposure to further establish the clinicopathological correlation. Clinically, this testing is necessary to determine the patient's overall therapy, with a focus on counselling of the individual patient and family members to prevent the disease from spreading further.

Oral plasmablastic lymphoma: at the origin of the discovery of an HIV infection

Objectives: This study evaluates the communication quality of French dentists when sharing oral dermatology cases on Facebook. Material and methods : A cross-sectional analysis was conducted over six months, examining cases shared in both general dentistry and specialized oral dermatology groups. A custom scoring grid assessed the cases for relevancy and misinformation, focusing on general presentation, dermatological criteria, and diagnostic hypotheses. Results : A total of 242 cases were analyzed. The study found that the average number of missing communication criteria was 6.21 ± 2.01 points, indicating significant variation in the quality of case presentations. The specialized oral dermatology group demonstrated higher-quality communication, with an average of 5.80 ± 1.84 missing points, compared to 7.00 ± 2.09 in the general dentistry group. Conclusions : These results suggest that specialized social media groups offer enhanced opportunities for professional learning and more detailed case presentations. However, the study also highlights the challenges of ensuring quality and consistency in online case sharing. It emphasizes the need for standardized guidelines to improve the educational potential of social media platforms for professional development in oral dermatology. Improved practices and guidelines could help maximize the benefits of these platforms for dentists and other health professionals.

French dentists' communication quality on clinical oral dermatology cases in Facebook groups: a cross-sectional study

Introduction: The purpose of this case report was to discuss the diagnosis and management of a rare dental anomaly involving a maxillary central incisor with a bifid crown, treated through a combined endodontic and surgical approach. Dental anomalies, such as gemination and fusion, can lead to irregularities in tooth size, structure, and number, which can pose challenges in diagnosis and careful consideration for effective management. Observation: A 13-year-old patient sought consultation for aesthetic and orthodontic concerns related to the double tooth (DT). Despite the complexity of the malformation, a conservative mixed endodontic and surgical approach was chosen after multidisciplinary discussion. The patient underwent endodontic treatment followed by crown resection and gingival plastic surgery. Post-operative follow-up showed satisfactory results. Conclusion: This case report emphasizes the challenges in DT diagnostic and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach. Various treatment modalities were explored, highlighting the lack of standardized guidelines and the importance of individualized care.

A general protocol has been accepted by the scientific community for using the extraction immediate implantation and provisionalization (EIIP), in the replacement a compromised tooth in the antero-maxillary region, but the multiplicity of biomaterials used leads to diversity of application of the protocol. The aims of this study were to compare the Pink esthetic Score (PES) according to the EIIP protocol, evaluate abutment visibility according to surgical protocol, and assess whether the type of tooth rehabilitated had an impact on PES or abutment visibility. A retrospective study evaluating the PES of 39 implants in 3 treatment units compared the esthetic results of surgical techniques (xenogeneic graft, alloplastic, PRF, connective tissue graft, membrane) after the crown had been in use for at least 3 weeks. When indicated, EIIP treatment appears to be the treatment's choice for the management of compromised teeth in the antero-maxillary region, whatever the biomaterial used in the protocol (xenogeneic graft, platelet-rich fibrin, connective tissue graft, membrane, alloplastic substitute). Each of the PES observed was rated as “acceptable”, and no statistical differences were found in the study between biomaterials, tooth situation (central or lateral) or abutment visibility.
